Hello, my name is Kingyatta Marion, and I am an education major at Bethune Cookman College. I aspire to become a Physical Education teacher and return back to my hometown community and work as an PE teacher and coach. I know that becoming a teacher is an especially important and noble position and I am up to the challenges. I hope to become an effective teacher and role model. At a time when there are teacher shortages and many other issues regarding education, I know that this is and has always been my destiny and desire. I know the demands and the rewards of being a teacher. If chosen for this scholarship I would be forever grateful and would definitely pay it forward. I can’t wait to be able to provide the same opportunities given to me, to someone else. I am committed to becoming and educator and look forward to what lays ahead. I would like to close this personal statement with my favorite education quote, "The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet." ~ Aristotle. This quote helps me to understand that everything may not be perfect in education, but in the end, it will be worth it!

One challenge that I must overcome to achieve my goals would be confidence during public speaking. I understand that sometimes I will have to take on roles that require me to speak before a public audience and although I am prepared; I sometimes lack the confidence to hide the fact that I am nervous. I have been working on improving in this area by taking on leadership roles and volunteering with my church and civic organizations at my university. I want to be able to come back to my own community and develop partnerships that help my community thrive. I have always been able to lead my fellow classmates, teammates, and the youth of my neighborhood, but there is so much more to improve my community. I want to be able to show youth in my community that you do not have to give into peer pressure and can create a road to success for yourself through positive endeavors.
I want to show others how changing your mindset will help you reach your personal goals, and my goal is to be able to go back to my community and work as an educator. I want to be just like the educators that did not give up on me. They inspired me to give my best efforts on the field and in the classroom. I will be a positive black male role model and devote my time in areas to build a thriving community. For example, I have devoted many hours with my church, passing out hot food and clean clothing to the homeless of Liberty City. I also take the time to talk to the homeless about their live struggles and give them the hope of change. Sometimes it takes just a few minutes of your day to make someone else entire week. I want to volunteer with the various programs that build up our community like the Belafonte Tacolcy Center of Liberty City. They have multiple avenues that benefit our community, but it was its sports program that allowed me to travel, learn and work hard to be a success. Being an educator, positive male role model and voice for my community is the end goal that starts with my college educational goals now. As I strive to reach my educational goals, I will home-in on the skills needed to make a major difference in the lives of others by working with my university’s civic organizations.
