I’ve worked consistently as a Caregiver since I was 14 years old, providing support for an individual with disability. While I might have lost a few afternoon naps, some school extra-curricular activities and play-times with peers along the way, the experience has been irreplaceably rewarding. I’ve learned patience, time-management and multi-tasking skills. Foremost, I’ve learned that life is not always about me and that the need to have compassion and a caring attitude towards others, particularly those who may lack the capability to care for themselves, shouldn’t always be a life deal breaker.
When I was little, I cared a great deal about being perfect. Unfortunately, I also had immeasurable fear of swimming. I faced the fear, forcing myself to learn swimming, making friends on the way and becoming a top swimmer in my group. Overcoming my fear of swimming, as trivial as it may sound, taught me an invaluable lesson about perseverance. It remains a pivotal point of reference to every challenging or iterating situation I may be faced with in my life.
Today, I’m content about wanting to live life with all my flaws, silliness and greatness. I sneer at perfection only because I want to make mistakes from which to learn and develop a balanced fully-lived life. I equally want to learn from others. I strongly believe that my broad interests and perspectives, foremost my eagerness and willingness to learn new things and share ideas, are what will steer me into achieving pursuits in life.

My community would be diverse and representative of the world. A person’s background would be irrelevant because everyone from all walks of life would live in that community; the rich, the poor, the disable, the educated, the non-educated, the physically beautiful, the inwardly beautiful, people from different racial backgrounds etc. I may even want a blend of bad people to live in that community as well singularly because bad people’s lives matter too and are equally precious. My hope would be that the blended community would allow them to learn from others and turn their lives around to be good members of the community.
In my ideal dream, I would want to live my life with all my flaws, silliness and greatness. I would want to make as many mistakes as I can so I can create a wealth of opportunities from which to learn and develop a balanced fully-lived life. Life flickers unpredictably and I wouldn’t want to live it with regrets thus I would want to have just as many sad as great moments so I could still preserve my humanity.
I would want a life where everyone lives in harmony, disagrees and solves problems respectfully and productively. Foremost, I would want a life where everyone has equal share of rights, opportunities and are treated fairly with respect. A life where everyone has the capability and the resources to attain any life-dreams. A community where people care about each other, share resources and are focused on ascertaining that no one is denied a fair shot at life. Oh, how I long for a life that’s fair where everyone chooses when to die so lives are not cut short or unfairly taken away by others.
Lastly, racism bothers me a great deal, only because no one has authority over another person. No one has been granted the power to decide on who is the greatest of humans or the power to decide on what to do with another person’s life, especially a life that was created by someone else. I would have no reason to want racism not just around me, but also at any other place on earth. The notion that one of two human beings, both created equally in the eyes of the creator, would decide that the other human, simply for having a different hue of skin color, is ‘less than’ and not deserving of equal share of rights and treatment, is one of the lowest act of ills humans have ever demonstrated.
