One high school teacher who has deeply influenced me is my junior year science teacher, Mr. Glaser. Beyond being an excellent teacher, he helped me navigate one of the most challenging moments of my high school athletic career. During cross country season, I was struggling with a foot injury that I initially dismissed as minor. I was frustrated, unsure of what was happening, and worried about falling behind. Mr. Glaser noticed my discomfort and encouraged me to take my concerns seriously. He asked careful questions, observed my gait, and, in the most straightforward and honest way, helped me realize that my foot was likely broken. His guidance led me to seek medical attention, confirming the fracture, and ultimately allowed me to focus on recovery before causing further harm.
What makes Mr. Glaser truly remarkable is that he is the smartest person I know. His ability to analyze problems, explain complex concepts in simple ways, and provide honest feedback has left a lasting impression on me. He doesn’t sugarcoat difficult truths, but he also provides encouragement and support. That approach changed how I handle challenges in all areas of my life. Instead of ignoring problems or hoping they will resolve on their own, I’ve learned to seek clarity, ask questions, and address obstacles head-on. Whether it’s an injury, a difficult academic topic, or a personal goal, I approach challenges with the same honesty, curiosity, and pragmatism that he modeled.
Mr. Glaser also taught me the value of observation, analysis, and critical thinking. His lessons extended beyond the classroom; he encouraged me to apply scientific reasoning to real-life situations, like understanding my injury, tracking my recovery, and adjusting my training. His mentorship reinforced the importance of combining knowledge with action—an approach that has strengthened my resilience and confidence in pursuing goals both academically and athletically.
Even now, long after my junior year, I still visit his classroom whenever I can. Whether it’s to ask a question, share an achievement, or simply talk about life, those visits remind me of the lessons he instilled: to confront challenges directly, trust the process, and take responsibility for my growth. Because of him, I not only recovered from my injury but also learned a lasting life lesson that guides me every day. Mr. Glaser’s influence goes beyond science; he has shaped how I think, act, and face the world, and I will carry his guidance with me for the rest of my life.

Being a year-round athlete competing in four different sports—cross country, track and field, swimming, and ice hockey—has shaped my character, work ethic, and dedication to my goals in profound ways. Balancing multiple teams requires discipline, organization, and resilience. Each sport challenges me in a unique way, teaching me to set goals, push past limits, and stay committed even when progress is slow. The variety of experiences has helped me grow both as an athlete and as a person, learning how to adapt, persevere, and work collaboratively with others.
Being part of so many teams has given me a second family. On the field, in the pool, or on the ice, I feel safe, supported, and encouraged by my teammates. We celebrate successes together, hold each other accountable, and share bonds that go far beyond athletics. Even when I faced setbacks, these relationships and lessons helped me persevere. During my senior year, I broke my foot and missed my final cross country season. Although it was incredibly disappointing, the injury didn’t set me back—it pushed me to work harder in my other sports and in my recovery. I learned patience, mental toughness, and the importance of staying focused on my goals, even when circumstances are beyond my control.
Living in a small community has made my journey even more meaningful. Everyone knows who I am and follows my progress in each sport, and my achievements have made me a visible example for younger athletes. I love participating in local runs and events for kids, sharing my passion for athletics and encouraging them to stay active. These experiences make me feel deeply connected to my community, and seeing younger athletes look up to me motivates me to keep striving and to be a positive role model.
Looking ahead, I am excited to continue my running career in college. My community is proud and supportive of this next step, and their encouragement inspires me to pursue excellence both on and off the track. Athletics have not only shaped my work ethic and resilience but have also taught me the value of teamwork, mentorship, and contributing to something larger than myself. The lessons I’ve learned through sports and my community involvement will guide me as I take the next steps in life, carrying with me the dedication, perseverance, and sense of belonging that athletics have always given me.
I am grateful to the committee for taking the time to consider my application and for the opportunity to share how my athletic journey has shaped who I am. Thank you for your consideration and support.
