Malcolm X said, “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” This proclamation has been my North Star as a German-Nigerian immigrant and the first in my family to attend medical school. Originally from a small farming community in Northwestern Germany, I moved to the United States as a little girl. Having grown up between Germany and the United States, across rural, urban, and suburban communities, I am privileged with a cross-cultural perspective and readily affirm the life-changing impact of higher education. My childhood dream has always been to become a physician; however, my academic and extracurricular passions remain broad. In high school, I captained multiple sports teams, earned my varsity letter, and published and presented peer-reviewed scientific research. In college, I wrote my senior thesis in vertebrate paleontology using digitized fossil collections, computer-aided design software, and statistical modeling. Currently, I am a third-year medical student at Rutgers RWJ Medical School. Medical school has been a significant financial challenge. Having worked and saved toward my education since age 12, I continue to seek scholarship support to help cover the remaining cost of my training.
