I am in my second year at Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD. I am currently a Banking and Financial Services major hoping to have a career in guiding people to make smart financial decisions. I am a TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) mentor this year and am looking forward to helping my mentees utilize the resources provided to them on Northern's campus. This includes, but is not limited to, tutoring, counseling, Bible studies, technology loans, and personalized academic advising. I graduated high school in the spring of 2022 and will graduate with my bachelor's degree in the winter of 2024 thanks to dual credit and summer classes. Throughout high school, I had three customer service jobs, one of which I was promoted to an assistant manager. I am currently a work-study student in the Financial Aid Office on campus and enjoy watching my supervisors help students figure out the best way to pay for their education and enjoy their time at NSU. My favorite part of my job is showing other students all of the grants and scholarship opportunities out there so that they do not have to stress about the cost of getting a good education. Some things I enjoy are reading all sorts of genres, crocheting, knitting, crafts, and old movies. I wish to graduate debt free, and I hope I can be carefully considered for scholarships!

My name is Kierra Dragt and I am a junior at Northern State University. The things that excite me most about college are meeting new people, making new connections, and setting myself up to be able to live the life I dream of. I have only been at Northern State University in person for one year, and it took some getting used to. For a while, I isolated myself thinking that it was best for me to keep my head down and just get my education years over with. I did not know many people when I started school and was anxious about trying new things and being away from where I had been since I was young. After a semester of isolation aside from work and class, I realized that I wanted to put myself out there and get involved. I am very excited for this summer and fall semester to start because this spring, I applied to be a camp counselor at a career camp in July. I also applied for a mentor position for the TRIO Student Support Services program in the fall and spring. I got both of these jobs and I cannot wait to be a leader in these positions and make new friends through these activities. I can be someone that people can look up to and I think that I will do well in a position where people can come to me for help.
I am very fortunate to have access to the campus gym because this is where I like to go to get exercise and keep my body healthy. Exercise also helps with my focus and overall mental health. I always feel less stressed after I take a walk on the treadmill and do a low-impact workout. I am always excited for the warmer months because I can take walks outdoors, and the fresh air is also good for my well-being. I also keep my mind healthy by keeping a schedule of everything I need to do and being consistent. My work and class schedule are relatively the same every week, so it is easy to plan time to study and make time for friends and family. I keep my soul healthy by going to church and church activities with my family and keeping my relationship with God my top priority. Going home every once in a while is also great. Of course, I do not see my family as much now as I did when I was in high school, so there is always so much to talk about and do when I go home. It makes me happy that I can keep healthy relationships with my family and high school friends even though I rarely see them anymore. All of these things combined help me to alleviate stress and anxiety from being constantly busy.
