Tonight, I can’t sleep. My mind is racing again, full of questions that always seem louder at night. What if I don’t make it? What if I never figure it out? What if I try, and it still isn’t enough? I lift my head from the pillow and glance around my room. I breathe. I’m still here. To be fair, I’m not always sure what makes me worthy of the dreams I hold in my heart. Maybe it’s because I believe we’re all worthy of something bigger, something better. We all have those moments where doubt creeps in, where we feel like we’re falling behind, where our purpose gets blurry. But some of us keep going. Not because we have to, but because we can’t afford not to. That’s the category I fall into. I don’t have the option to quit, not on myself, not on what I’ve started. I’ve had to fight through instability, rejection, anxiety, and grief. I’ve watched my grandmother, the strongest woman I know, battle breast cancer with grace and prayer. I’ve watched my mother raise me on her own, sacrificing without complaint. I come from a line of women who endured, survived, and created from almost nothing. And because of them, I create, too. At 14, I started teaching myself graphic design. I didn’t have fancy tools, just an old laptop and a hunger to make something out of what I was given. I loved creating. Since then, I’ve launched BrandedbyKi, my graphic design company, and Keyairah Co., my clothing brand. I built these from the ground up. I didn’t wait for someone to open a door; I made my own. Now, I’m holding it open for others who feel like there’s no place for them in the room. But even with all of that, my value doesn’t come from my resume. It comes from how I think, how I move, and how I refuse to settle. I’m someone who wrestles with self-doubt but doesn’t let it win. I’m someone who believes deeply in faith, who trusts that God doesn’t give you dreams unless you’re capable of carrying them out. I believe I’m worth these dreams because I know what I’ll do with them. I don’t want success just to say I did it. I want to build a life that inspires others to believe in theirs. I want young women, especially little Black girls who grew up thinking they had to shrink themselves, to see what’s possible when you show up as your full self. I want to create impact, beauty, and opportunity. That’s why I create brands. That’s why I create fashion. That’s why I won’t stop. Those anxious thoughts in my head? They used to be loud enough to paralyze me. Now they’re just fuel. They’re proof that I care. That I have something real to fight for. I am worth the dreams I aspire to achieve because I’ve already paid for them in patience, passion, and persistence, as I will continue to. I will continue showing up for myself in silence, working without applause, and keep going when no one else is watching. I’ve learned that sometimes, the most powerful thing you can do is believe in progress. And that’s what I’ll keep doing. Dreaming. Building. Believing. As a young little girl, I looked forward to weekends with Grandma. I'd watch her stand on her feet for hours to make me the most delicious Jamaican dishes after we'd go to church on Saturday morning. She was the kindest, most selfless woman I knew. My grandmother, Marcia Taylor, is the greatest gift this world could have given me. She was my very first example of strength dressed in softness. When times were tough and my Dad left us, she stepped up and moved in. She raised my two younger sisters and filled the void. I don’t know where my mother and I would be today without her. My grandma helped mold me into the young woman I am today. She gave without asking, prayed without ceasing, and carried burdens with a smile that told me everything would be okay. For most, the first person they'd call in a time of trouble and worry is their parents. However, for me, it has always been my grandmother. She is the strength that exists when I can no longer stand on my own. She is the woman who instilled faith in me, something I will carry with me for the rest of my life. However, she didn’t just raise children, she raised dreams. Mine was one of them. Her hands were always busy with something like folding, cooking, or stitching. She reminded me that creation is sacred. That from nothing, you can build something. Even when times are hard and you've become hopeless. You should still create beauty while building impact. It’s because of her that the women in my household are so creative. She taught me that my creativity could be a way for me to express myself or even become my purpose. I could design my future, one bold step at a time, as long as I have faith. This is why I have always followed my dreams. My grandmother introduced me to God, and He said, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” I’ve always put my faith in Him, and that is how I am now the founder of BrandedbyKi, my graphic design company, and Keyairah Co., my clothing brand. My grandma is the one who always believed in me and cheered for me along the way. Always so attentive to me and my goals when no one else was. I carry her with me in every brand I build, in every idea I chase. She’s the reason I dream out loud and work in silence. I believe success means leaving something behind that lasts, something that touches and helps people. Through my work, I want to honor her legacy by building something meaningful and pouring into others the way she poured into me. I hope to become a mentor to underprivileged young girls around the world, helping them pursue their dreams and take on the world, one step at a time. Not for recognition, but for impact. My passion lies in creating platforms and resources that empower women of color to embrace their creativity, own their narratives, and build the lives they envision, specifically through entrepreneurship, marketing, and design. I started my graphic design business at 14 using nothing but a cell phone, and later I launched a clothing line, Keyairah Co., dedicated to reminding women of their beauty and power. These weren’t just passion projects, they were survival, expression, and service all wrapped into one. However, my impact isn’t just measured in logos or clothing. I’ve used my skills to support small businesses, volunteer at community events, and mentor students who remind me of myself. The truth is, I’ve never had the luxury of sliding by. Growing up in a single-parent household taught me resilience before I even knew the meaning of the word. My parents’ divorce happened during my freshman year of college and threw everything off balance. Mentally and emotionally, my household felt unfamiliar. The weight of change, financial pressure, and emotional tension hit hard. Anyone could tell you I was a daddy’s girl, so when our relationship suddenly shifted and he disappeared from my life, it shook me to my core. I tried to stay focused, but I was struggling beneath the surface, battling anxiety, doubt, the sudden absence of my father, and the quiet loneliness of feeling like no one noticed. My GPA and my motivation dropped. But I refused to let that moment define me. Something inside of me awakened during my junior year. I began taking dual enrollment classes to repair the academic damage, working my way back up to a 3.2 GPA. That number doesn’t just represent a grade, it reflects a comeback. I also managed to become more active in my school and community. A story of a girl who refused to let struggle silence her goals. My mother, a single mom who carried more weight than one person should, became my inspiration. Watching her sacrifice and survive planted a seed in me: I wanted to build a life that would free us both. That’s where my passion for entrepreneurship and creativity was born. In high school, I launched Branded by Ki, my graphic design company, using just my cell phone to create flyers and logos. What started as a side hustle soon became my foundation. During the pandemic, while the world stood still, I built Keyairah Co., a women’s clothing brand rooted in confidence and empowerment. If given the opportunity, I would improve my community by creating an empowerment studio dedicated to young women of color, particularly those with big ideas but limited access. It would be a space that offers lots of resources, mentorship, design and branding workshops, creative equipment, and business-building tools. The goal? To give girls who look like me the confidence and resources to build something of their own. I know exactly what it feels like to have a dream but not the tools. I picked up the hobby of designing logos at 14 years old only my phone and imagination. While other kids were playing games, I was teaching myself how to design, brand, and build. I then began accepting clients, birthing my first business, Branded By Ki. Shortly after, I used this skill to found my original dream, Keyairah Co., my clothing brand. I didn’t have a mentor. I didn’t have a studio or a team. I just had a deep desire to create something meaningful and inspire other women to walk in their power. But my journey hasn't been easy. My first year of college, I struggled deeply with isolation and self-doubt. I showed up, got involved, and tried to “fit in,” but no matter how hard I tried, I still came home to silence. I often wondered if I was good enough, if I belonged in these spaces, or if I was chasing something too big for someone like me. But I kept creating anyway. I designed through my tears. I built collections in between working long shifts and going to class. I kept going because I know what I am building will one day become bigger than I ever imagined. That’s why this matters. Through the process, I have inspired others, and that's why I want to create something for my community that lasts. I want to show girls that they don’t have to wait until they’re “chosen.” They can choose themselves. They can build now. With the right resources, support, and belief, anything is possible, and I want to be the one to help give them that head start. It’s about breaking generational patterns and giving the next girl like me a clearer path to walk, one she can walk with her head held high. I was born in Broward County, just thirty minutes from Miami, Florida. My mother is Jamaican. My father, Haitian. And together, they raised me on the south side of Atlanta. These three truths, where I’m from, who I come from, and where I was raised, built me. They have taught me that creativity is survival. With such a vibrant background, one thing was always clear: I was never meant to blend in. That doesn’t mean I needed the fanciest shoes or the prettiest bag. It means my mind has always moved differently, dreamed bigger, and seen farther. That’s probably why, in just fifth grade, I found myself discovering a passion for entrepreneurship and design. By 14, I was using my cellphone to design logos and flyers for clients I met through social media. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was laying the foundation for something much bigger. While the world was paused during the pandemic, I was building. I launched Branded By Ki, my graphic design company, and Keyairah Co., my clothing line designed to remind women of their confidence, even if they’re just in a sweatsuit. This sprouted the idea of me going to college to pursue a degree in Accounting with a concentration in Marketing at Atlanta's very own, Clark Atlanta University. I hope to apply what I learn in the next 4 years to not only my business but help others apply it to theirs as well. I have a profound love for sharing well-thought-of advice with others. One day, I'll be one of the biggest mentors in the game guiding multiple businesses to success, while maintaining my own. I hope to not only bring my dream to life but others as well. 2 Corinthians 9:7 says, “Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (NIV). Hi! My name is Kiara Day, a name you'll soon hear and read about! I am a multi-faceted 18-year-old, residing on the Southside of Georgia. "Multi-faceted?" you may ask. Yes! I am the CEO of the brand "Keyairah Co", a self-taught graphic designer, model, aspiring content creator, writer, and more. These are just a few of my talents and hobbies. I live with 4 other people; my 2 younger sisters, mom, and grandma. During my 10th grade year, my parents separated due to my father's cheating. Ever since then, my mom has been taking care of my siblings, grandmother, and me all by herself financially. It has been a lot on her, and lately, I've been having to help out by paying for a lot of my expenses. Senior year was extremely rough for us because there were a lot of hidden costs that she couldn't handle alone on top of her usual responsibilities. This scholarship would help my family tremendously. My mom wouldn't have to worry about paying out of pocket for my college tuition. Currently, she will have to burn herself out to add my college costs to her responsibilities. Not to mention, I have two older sisters who are growing up and over time, will require more from her financially, emotionally, and physically. My family's situation has inspired me to pursue my passion, the business industry. I am currently enrolled at Clark Atlanta University where I plan on pursuing my Bachelor's Degree in Accounting with a concentration in Marketing. At this young age, I have already been inspiring and motivating my peers to believe in themselves and strive for better. As a result, many of them will ask and turn to me for advice on either starting or growing their business. Post graduation, I will not only enhance women's beauty by continuing my clothing line but also pour back into my community by sharing the knowledge I will learn and helping them with the financial aspects of their business.

My grandma always told me “Your body is a temple” and you should treat your body with respect. But it wasn’t me who didn’t respect my body. It was those who claimed they loved me. At five or six, I was learning to keep big secrets from my family while my peers were practicing shapes and reading. I never really understood anything but I understood I couldn’t tell anyone. It took me entering my pre-teens to confide in someone finally. For my entire life, I believed I was to be blamed. I allowed it to happen over and over and never told a soul. But then, not realizing I was only five, I was very hard on myself. Then, telling my family was hard. My father didn’t believe me and told me I was lying. My mom was broken. And my grandmother was angry. Eventually, the whole family knew and I wouldn’t say I liked the fact that everyone had an opinion about my childhood assault. I never realized the trauma it caused me. I grew up not liking physical touch. I became both hyper-sexual and afraid of intimacy. I was constantly battling the opposites in my mind. Now, just when I thought the most traumatic event I could experience as a 'woman' was over. Again on New Year's in 2021, I was sexually assaulted by a man; my older cousin. As I faded in and out of consciousness, I never realized what was going on above me as I lay in the comfort of my bed. It felt like everything that was left of me was being taken away. I was afraid to look at myself after that. I fell into a deep depression. Not to mention, before this, my parents were also separating. My father had cheated on my mother and broken our family with no remorse. To top it off, I also broke up with my boyfriend during this period. He was the light at the end of the tunnel, the only thing keeping me alive. Then, I lost him too. I began to dissociate from reality and I was numb. As I was entering my freshman year of high school which also happened to be during COVID, I was mentally checked out. I couldn't keep up with schoolwork and grades anymore. I went from an A & B student to pushing to earn a C. Eventually, my GPA began to drop. It didn't take me until junior year to get back into the swing of things. I was barely getting by in high school and making average grades. In the long run, this hurt my transcript and made it hard to get accepted into the colleges of my dreams. Most times it's super hard to battle the problems of life and juggling school. Luckily, I pushed through. I didn't graduate top of my class, but I made it. I started getting involved in my school and trying to make the best of high school. I may not have had the grades, but I had the character. A thoughtful, generous, loving, and caring 18-year-old just trying to make her parents proud. No matter what, always keep pushing. Better days are always ahead.

Being a Black American means working harder than everyone else for the same goal, striving not to be overlooked because of the color of our skin. Black Americans have been stereotyped for centuries, making it difficult for us to be fully appreciated in the workplace. But for women, being Black while also being a woman doubles the pressure, the stereotypes, and the workload. In the fall, I plan to major in Accounting with a concentration in Marketing at the illustrious Clark Atlanta University. With this degree, I aim to delve deeper into the business world, my passion.
