It took me entering my pre-teens to confide in someone finally. For my entire life, I believed I was to be blamed. I allowed it to happen over and over and never told a soul. But then, not realizing I was only five, I was very hard on myself. Then, telling my family was hard. My father didn’t believe me and told me I was lying. My mom was broken and my grandmother was angry. I never realized the trauma it caused me. I grew up not liking physical touch. I was constantly battling the opposites in my mind. Now, just when I thought the most traumatic event I could experience as a 'woman' was over. Again on New Year's in 2021, I was sexually assaulted by a man; my older cousin. As I faded in and out of consciousness, I never realized what was going on above me as I lay in the comfort of my bed. It felt like everything that was left of me was being taken away. I was afraid to look at myself after that. I fell into a deep depression. Not to mention, before this, my parents were also separating. My father had cheated on my mother and broken our family with no remorse. I began to dissociate from reality and I was numb. As I was entering my freshman year of high school which also happened to be during COVID, I was mentally checked out. I couldn't keep up with schoolwork and grades anymore. Eventually, my GPA began to drop. I was barely getting by in high school and making average grades. In the long run, this hurt my transcript and made it hard to get accepted into the colleges of my dreams. Most times it's super hard to battle the problems of life and juggling school. Luckily, I pushed through. I didn't graduate top of my class, but I made it and achieved a few things along the way; I was Vice President of Key Club, a 2 year dancing diamond, certified entrepreneurship pathway completer, dually enrolled graduating with 25 college credits, and voted "Most Likely to Become a Future CEO" in my graduating class. I hope to apply what I learn in the next 4 years to not only my business but also, help individuals with passions as well. I couldn't keep up with schoolwork and grades anymore. Eventually, my GPA began to drop. It didn't take me until junior year to get back into the swing of things. I was barely getting by in high school and making average grades. In the long run, this hurt my transcript and made it hard to get accepted into the colleges of my dreams. Most times it's super hard to battle the problems of life and juggling school. Luckily, I pushed through. I didn't graduate top of my class, but I made it and achieved a few things along the way; I was Vice President of Key Club, a 2 year dancing diamond, certified entrepreneurship pathway completer, dually enrolled graduating with 25 college credits, and voted "Most Likely to Become a Future CEO" in my graduating class. I hope to apply what I learn in the next 4 years to not only my business but also, help individuals with passions as well. Education gives individuals knowledge and skills that are essential for personal growth. It is one of the most reliable ways to create a successful life. Higher education is also necessary for attaining important roles in our community, such as doctors, lawyers, dentists, and others. For me, pursuing a higher education will open doors that would be harder to reach otherwise. Not to mention the eternal knowledge gained during the process of obtaining a degree. You will experience new environments and overcome obstacles that will shape and mold you into a wiser, better version of yourself, enabling you to reach new heights and conquer the world. And my grandmother was angry. I never realized the trauma it caused me. I grew up not liking physical touch. I became both hyper-sexual and afraid of intimacy. I was constantly battling the opposites in my mind. Now, just when I thought the most traumatic event I could experience as a 'woman' was over. Again on New Year's in 2021, I was sexually assaulted by a man; my older cousin. As I faded in and out of consciousness, I never realized what was going on above me as I lay in the comfort of my bed.
