Kiara is a nursing student at Advent Health University pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing. At such a youthful age, she knew she wanted to help others; by the time she entered high school she knew to pursue nursing. This passion led her to finish high school one year early to begin her studies in the nursing field right away. After two years at Lake Sumter State College, she earned an associate degree that would allow her to head straight into a bachelor’s program in nursing. During this time, she completed a certificate in becoming a certified nursing assistant that opened the doors to the health care field. This created the insight to understand the healthcare field firsthand before becoming a nurse. As a certified nursing assistant, it has taught viable traits such as: critical thinking, obtaining basic life support training, medical terminology, and customer service in hospitality. All these factors included prepares an individual for the role of a nurse. Collaborating with nurses every day in an acute care, we see and do everything to ensure that patients are safe and comfortable. This experience alone is the foundation of nursing; this has brought the desire to study nursing to grow in her heart.

This created the insight to understand the healthcare field firsthand before becoming a nurse. As a certified nursing assistant, it has taught me viable traits such as critical thinking, obtaining basic life support training, medical terminology, and customer service in hospitality. All these factors included preparing an individual for the role of a nurse. Collaborating with nurses every day in acute care, we see and do everything to ensure that patients are safe and comfortable. This experience alone is the foundation of nursing; this has brought the desire to study nursing to grow in her heart. This field is a way to give back to our community and ensure that the community's health is the utmost priority. Joining Advent Health University will let Kiara strive to become an exceptional nurse one day to strongly advocate for her patients and their rights because nothing is more important than keeping someone safe.
Having a scholarship allows me to pursue my undergraduate education at Advent Health University which helps me avoid getting a student loan and paying out of pocket. This scholarship will help me get my degree quicker, so I do not have to take a year off as most students do and work full time to pay tuition fees for the next semester. I believe that having a scholarship can influence someone to help them pursue their goals in life. Having this scholarship will help cover tuition fees so I can continue going to school for my degree. Without these goals, I would not get far, and I would not be able to apply for any scholarships. My goal is to become a neonatal nurse, which requires lots of education. I picked that career choice because I love offering my assistance to people and in this field, I get to take care of babies and help parents take care of their newborns and help with what to do for their babies. When I was younger, I always enjoyed taking care of my mother when she was sick it made me feel like I was helping her. Ever since then, my passion for medicine had gone up varying from different fields until I finally found the right one. I am looking forward to becoming a neonatal nurse but; for me to enjoy my career, I should try to avoid having student loans for as long as possible. The reason is that; I do not wish to be in debt when I graduate and land a job in that field; in which, all my money goes to paying off debts rather than rewarding myself for all the challenging work I did. The experiences I learned this year I will take with me throughout my college years are to never give up and to always keep going.
