Bio

My goals in life is to make sure I finish school. I started so long ago it’s just something I have to do. There are so many opportunities out there that require a degree. With me being a single mom is hard while supporting my family. I would describe myself as someone who is very determined. No matter the obstacles or how long it takes I get it done. I want to show my daughter nothing is impossible. Set goals and go out and achieve them. I am currently majoring in business management. I graduated in November 2021 with my bachelors in business I thought I was finish however, I just enrolled for my masters. I want to start my own business to teach the youth about financial literacy. I feel it is important information they can learn. Growing up I wasn’t taught how to properly manage money or how important a credit score was. It is my mission to help inner city youth how important it is for the long run. I always tell people treat others, how you will want to be treated. What you put out in the world is what you get back. Be kind to all and spread great vibes. I’m working diligently to save money for school, but I need additional scholarships to cover my tuition. I have over 60,000 in loans. With my financial needs met, I'll be able to pour back into the lives of my future students. I'm excited to further my education in the Winter of 2022 with your help! Thank you for taking the time out to review my profile! (^_^)

    Michele L. Durant Scholarship
Managing mental health as a single mother is a journey that requires patience and self-compassion. By prioritizing mental health, seeking support, and fostering resilience, single mothers can create a nurturing environment for both themselves and their children. This commitment not only enhances personal well-being but also sets a positive example for the next generation. Making sure I complete my education is one of my life's objectives. It's just something I have to do; I started so long ago. There are a lot of opportunities that call for a degree. It's challenging for me to support my family as a single mother. I consider myself to be a very determined person. I finish it regardless of the challenges or the amount of time required. I want to demonstrate to my daughter that nothing is insurmountable. Establish objectives and work toward achieving them. At the moment, business management is my major. I believed I was done with my business bachelor's degree, which I received in November 2021, but I recently enrolled in a master's program. I'd like to launch my own company to instruct the youth about financial literacy. I think it's crucial knowledge they can acquire. I didn't learn how to handle money wisely or the significance of a credit score when I was growing up. My goal is to educate inner-city youth about the long-term significance of this. I often advise people to treat others the way they would like to be treated. You get back what you put out into the world. Spread positive energy and show kindness to everyone. I'll be able to give back to my future students once my financial needs are satisfied. I'm eager to continue my studies in Business. It can be very difficult to juggle the obligations of being a single parent and a student for a number of reasons. Outstanding time management abilities are necessary to balance schoolwork, studying, and parenting. Prioritizing both family and academic obligations can be challenging due to conflicting time demands. Financial difficulties that single parents may encounter can make their academic endeavors more stressful. The costs of childcare, books, and tuition can be prohibitive, making it difficult to concentrate. Emotional exhaustion can result from the strain of maintaining a stable and caring environment for a child while meeting academic deadlines. Both parenting skills and academic achievement may be impacted by this. Without a support system, single parents may find it challenging to get assistance with childcare or academic difficulties. Both academic and personal development may be hampered by this seclusion. Getting a scholarship would greatly ease some of these difficulties. Tuition expenses would be less of a burden, freeing me up to concentrate more on my studies and less on money concerns. This would allow me to spend money on things that I and my child need. With financial support, I could seek out childcare options or flexible study schedules that accommodate my responsibilities. This scholarship would serve as recognition of my hard work, motivating me to continue striving for academic success. It would also set a positive example for my child, showing them the value of education and perseverance. Ultimately, this scholarship would help pave the way for a better future, not just for me, but for my child as well. By completing my education, I would be better positioned to secure a stable job and provide a more promising environment for my child. In summary, this scholarship represents not only a financial boost but also a crucial step toward achieving my goals and creating a brighter future for both myself and my child.
    Healing Self and Community Scholarship
To make mental health care affordable and accessible, I would propose a multifaceted approach that includes and Develop a platform that connects individuals with licensed therapists offering sliding scale fees based on income.Provide virtual group therapy sessions to reduce costs and foster community support. Establish community-led initiatives that focus on peer support groups, creating safe spaces for sharing experiences and coping strategies. Offer free or low-cost workshops on mental health awareness, stress management, and coping skills in schools, workplaces, and community centers. By integrating technology, community support, and policy advocacy, we can create a more equitable mental health care system that meets the needs of diverse populations. This holistic approach aims not only to provide immediate support but also to foster long-term resilience and awareness in communities.

It's just something I have to do; I started so long ago. Even though I'm saving a lot of money for school, I still need more scholarships to pay for my tuition. I owe more than $60,000.

This was far the best experience I ever had. I’m afraid of heights. While on vacation in Lake Tahoe. We decided to take a hike, a girl who isn’t use to anything other than being a couch potato. On that trip I conquered my fears of heights, by hiking this mountain. I experienced the outdoors more than I ever had. After this trip a new person was born. She was born fearless, ready to take on the world one trail at a time.

Being a single mom is the hardest, most empowering thing I’ve ever done. Sometimes I feel like a horrible mom. I catch myself picking up my phone a lot. I have to remind myself that the life I created needs all my attention. One thing I really didn’t expect was the intense isolation that comes with being a single mom. When you’re married, your partner's constant presence that you can crave having the house to yourself, those were the days. I had my baby in the beginning of the pandemic. It was hard, I couldn’t trust anyone to come over in fear of the virus. During those months of isolation I’ve developed post-partum. It’s the worst feeling ever I felt like I was failing as a mom. I felt as though I wasn’t good enough for her. Life was kicking my butt, I refused to lose though. Being a single mom is not easy. Juggling school, work a baby is rough. I think have a baby during a pandemic is 10x’s harder. What kept me motivated was her. My chunky little side kick, is who keeps me motivated. Her sassy attitude is what I live for. Something so small is so fearless. Since day one she has proved that she is independent. I felt like quitting school a lot. I’ve come so far that I realized I couldn’t do that. This is something I’ve be trying to finish for so long I refuse to quit. This is something I will complete. I was working a full time job. I went part time because I was afraid to put her in daycare. That was a fail because I couldn’t afford half of my bills. I have accumulated so much debt, I’m trying to find ways to make money. So I had to go back to working full time to try to unbury myself out of debt. What I find most challenging about being a single mom is not having the help from dad. Yes I have family but it is not their responsibility to step in help me. I know they will if I ask but, they shouldn’t. It is seriously hard to be a single parent. You have to deal with all of the parental duties while juggling work, cleaning the house, cooking dinner, having relationships with others, and what happens if you get sick? You certainly cannot call in and take the day off from being a parent! What is rewarding about being a single mom is I realized that I will never be alone. Life showed me I needed her to complete what was missing. She was the missing puzzle piece. She is why I am determined to complete all my goals. Everything I do is for her. She is my greatest achievement. She is my everything. This scholarship will help me by not having to take out additional loans. It’s already hard enough trying pay for school out of pocket. I don’t want to dig myself in a bigger whole that I’m already in.

I think have a baby during a pandemic is 10x’s harder. What kept me motivated was her. I’m a single mother because I chose to have my baby. I knew that I would be raising her alone and I’m ok with that. From the moment I found out I was pregnant there was no doubt in my mind that I was keeping my baby. Pro-life meant you only cared for the rights of the unborn. All human beings have human rights. Everyone counts. This is a principle of justice. Pregnant women often face very difficult circumstances. But if unborn children are valuable human beings, like born children, then killing them is no more justified in tough situations like financial hardships. Our response to the difficulties women face should be to provide support, resources, and ethical alternative, so no woman feels like abortion is her only option. There are a lot of options like adoption. According to mccl.org “People often say that pro-lifers are trying to force their religious beliefs on the rest of society. But the pro-life position is supported by science and reason and is held by many non-religious people. Opposition to killing unborn children is no more inherently "religious" than opposition to killing teenagers (or anyone else). Moreover, the fact that a person's position on an issue may be influenced by religion should not exclude it from public consideration.” Pro-life is not a religion, no one is forcing anything on anyone. I think it just information that needs to be heard before one makes that type of decision. Having a baby may seem like it’s hard when you have the weight of the world on your shoulders, but when that baby gets here. Your whole world shifts and you would do whatever it takes to make sure that baby lives a great life.

I want to start my own business to teach the youth about financial literacy. I feel it is important information they can learn. Growing up I wasn’t taught how to properly manage money or how important a credit score was. It is my mission to help inner city youth how important it is for the long run. That having great credit and saving habits are essential for the long run. Hey The pandemic was the turning point for me. It’s should how unprepared I was. I had money saved but, having a baby in the middle of a pandemic was an eye opener. I was working a full time job. I went part time because I was afraid to put her in daycare. There weren’t many to choose from that I can afford. Daycare double during the pandemic. Working part-time was a fail because I couldn’t afford half of my bills. I have accumulated so much debt, I’m trying to find ways to make money. So I had to go back to working full time to try to unbury myself out of debt. It’s slow process but I’m learning from my mistakes. I have been putting myself on a budget. Cutting unnecessary spending. Trying to rebuild my credit, so I can start my home buying process. I’m working diligently to save money for school, but I need additional scholarships to cover my tuition. With my financial needs met, I'll be able to pour back into the lives of my future students. I'm excited to further my education in the fall of 2021 with your help! I hope to to achieve the satisfaction of knowing that others can learn from my mistakes. Knowing that having credit cards come with the will power to not just racked up debt. That there are ways to save and build for a debt free future.

You don’t see a lot of women on the boarder patrol, especially a woman or color. I hope to make not only positively impact but a statement as well. By Maintaining a presence in border zones. It is so much hostility and frustration with people trying to come to the states to make a better life for themselves and their families. They don’t know there are legal ways to come here so I would want to be the voice to spread awareness about how to, legally gain citizenship. My studies will prepare me by providing technical advice and assistance for preventing and responding to border incidents. Being a black single mom is the hardest, most empowering thing I’ve ever done. Black women don’t speak about post-partum depression. They feel as though it makes them weak. I plan to educate others on my experience of post-partum depression. How it made me stronger and more determined then ever to uplift others/
