Bio

Being a single mother and working is hard itself. Numbers have always been my passion and with that along, I believe I can stand out. A goal that I seek to reach is owning my own tax service business with other accounting services. Another service I would like to provide is budgeting. Helping people learn about the importance of money as soon as possible could be a major key in someone's life. Doing all of this will help me have the freedom to make my own schedule, help others, and best of all a better mother. Having kids shouldn't mean picking between a 12 hour work schedule for a major corporation who could care less. Finishing school (5 classes for my Associates) is my first step in realizing that it's all possible.

Empowering Mothers Scholarship for Single Moms
On a hot summer day, my child and I seen a taco food truck on the side of the road. We had been running errands all day in a hot car with no air conditioning, so I wanted to take him to experience some side of the road food just for some extracurricular and feeding of our bellies. While ordering, my nine year old son points behind me and says, “Ma, that’s the school you said you use to go, your big school.” I turned around knowing they always have something posted on that particular billboard and said, “Yes it is.” I continued reading the new information and tears formed in my eyes. It read, “Free tuition and fees.” Just seeing those words and knowing that I exhausted most of my funds going to school for many reasons just made me so happy. Being indecisive and making bad decisions in the past caused me to not be able to finish my degree of study. We finished our tacos and returned home. I immediately started doing some digging and it was definitely clear that it was sign from whomever that it was my time. Being a single mother and fumbling with day to day activities and chores sometimes steers us away from our passions. After a few days, I had reapplied to school, found out how many course I needed to finish my associates, and I became even more clear that its just time to push. Five classes, is all I need to obtain my associates in Business with the Accounting concentration. That made me set some really important goals in place. Which included going to school and finished my degree, obtaining an LLC to begin a business, start a training course with Intuit tax preparing, and opening a successful business. No matter how smooth things to go and everything seemed to work in my favor, it just wasn't time. My advisor told me that none of the classes I needed were being offered in the late semester since I was a few days late applying for the Fall 21 deadline. On top of that the financial aid that I would qualify for, one semester of pell grant, plus the free tuition and fees, wouldn't help cover my books or supplies. Those are very costly items I now had to figure out how to cover the costs. So with that information I knew it wasn't a set back but a chance to figure somethings out. November 1 is when I can enroll in Spring 22 courses and should still be allowed to use the free tuition option and one semester pell grant choice. Being a single mother has it's ups and downs indefinitely. Most would immediately describe us as usually tired, trying to make ends meets, and finding more time for our kids. Working and childcare are our biggest insecurity. What is a mother who doesn't provide? We have to work all of these hours to do so and usually with corporations that could careless about our personal life. That alone motivates me to further my education.
