From a young age, I have been captivated by the ability to nurture infants, assist in deliveries, and thoroughly explore the intricacies of pregnancy and motherhood, all of which are integral to the medical field. Upon reflection, I recognized my desire to help others and had a strong commitment to my work, comprising my core values. These values are embodied by providing support with an accepting mindset, while simultaneously dedicating oneself to enhancing life through service. Commitment is the foundation, fueling my determination and resilience in facing challenges. Understanding the paramount importance of these interests, I have realized that pursuing a major and career in nursing perfectly aligns with my aspirations. Nurses exhibit remarkable compassion for their patients and deep passion for their work. From experiencing the kind nature of nurses as patients and witnessing their work ethic, these qualities shined and inspired me to pursue a career as a nurse. I started my journey at Delaware State University’s Nursing program. As I learned skills from taking blood pressure to provide bed baths, my desire grew immensely. In my final year of nursing school, I am yearning for my opportunity to reciprocate compassionate care for patients initially as a Labor and Delivery nurse. I aspire to become a certified nurse midwife driven by the desire to serve and support women within my community on their journey to motherhood. My primary goal is to provide compassionate care to women with a focus on reproductive health and childcare needs. Empowering women to make informed decisions and advocate for their health and well-being is at the heart of my own values. I am committed to assisting women in achieving and maintaining healthy pregnancies and facilitating the birth of thriving babies while guiding them through the early stages of motherhood. Central to my vision is the belief that every woman, regardless of socioeconomic status or background, should have equitable access to high-quality maternal healthcare. By providing comprehensive support throughout the pregnancy journey from prenatal care to postpartum recovery, I hope to empower women to embrace motherhood with confidence and dignity. Recognizing the intrinsic connection between physical and mental health, I am dedicated to promoting holistic well-being. I aspire to cultivate an environment in which women feel at ease discussing any mental challenges they may encounter throughout their journey. By providing high-quality care, effective therapeutic communication, and facilitating referrals to additional services as needed, I strive to create the most positive and restorative motherhood experience. As a young African-American woman, I am particularly passionate about improving the experiences of African-Americans and minority women. I aim to amplify their voices and ensure that their concerns are promptly heard and addressed. In a country where maternal morbidity and mortality rates disproportionately affect minority communities, my commitment to bringing about change is unwavering. I am determined to contribute to the ongoing efforts to reduce these disparities. Through the nursing qualities of advocacy, education, and compassionate care, I aim to make a meaningful difference to the lives of women and their families across diverse communities. Ultimately, my passion for nursing stems from a deep-seated desire to serve others and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need. Guided by the values of compassion, integrity, and advocacy, I am committed to pursuing excellence in nursing and advancing maternal health. With the impactful experiences of being under the care of nurses and my will to foster the best possible care, I am more than ready to embark on this journey toward fulfilling my calling as a nurse who advocates maternal well-being.

My goal is to work as a Certified Nurse Midwife. I want to be a voice for women of color struggling to be heard by their healthcare providers. Additionally, I hope to close the ethnic and racial disparities gap in maternal and infant mortality.
