1)
I believe the attribute I embody the most is “Be a continual learner.” My journey as an international student, a future business professional, and someone who values personal growth has been driven by a desire to keep learning in all areas of my life. Being a continual learner means seeking knowledge beyond the classroom, gaining wisdom from experiences, and growing through every challenge or opportunity that comes my way.
As a Management major with a concentration in Information Systems, I actively embrace learning both academically and personally. I constantly challenge myself to gain new skills, whether it is mastering a concept in my coursework or obtaining certifications like the business analysis certificate I am currently working on. This pursuit is rooted in my understanding that education is not limited to textbooks—it is a lifelong process. I am intentional about attending workshops, participating in networking events, and collaborating with individuals who inspire me to see things from different perspectives.
Additionally, I have learned to approach challenges as opportunities to grow. Moving to the United States from the Caribbean to pursue higher education was a significant adjustment, but I used it as a chance to learn—not just about academics but also about culture, independence, and resilience. I became more open to meeting new people, networking, and attending events that allowed me to build connections and learn from others’ experiences.
I also embody this attribute by applying a learning mindset to failure. If I face a setback, I take the time to reflect and ask myself, “What can I learn from this situation?” For example, when I struggled initially with programming and creating lists, I didn’t give up. Instead, I sought additional resources, practiced consistently, and worked to improve. This approach taught me that persistence and a willingness to learn will always lead to growth.
Being a continual learner allows me to thrive in an ever-changing world. I am committed to expanding my knowledge, honing my skills, and remaining curious. This mindset will not only serve me in my career but also enable me to contribute meaningfully to my community and the African diaspora. By learning, I can teach others, inspire progress, and uplift those around me.
2) While I have made strides in many areas, the attribute I most need to improve is “Dare to take calculated risks.” I tend to lean toward the familiar, often prioritizing careful planning and comfort overstepping into the unknown. While this ensures that I make well-thought-out decisions, it can sometimes hold me back from opportunities that require bold action.
I realize that calculated risks are necessary for growth, innovation, and reaching one’s full potential. Whether it’s pursuing a competitive internship, pitching an idea, or joining a new organization, taking risks can open doors to success and new experiences. For example, I sometimes hesitate to volunteer for leadership roles or speak up when I have ideas, worried about how they might be received. However, I’ve learned that the rewards of calculated risks often outweigh the fears that come with them.
To improve in this area, I have developed a plan to start stepping out of my comfort zone while still approaching risks thoughtfully:
Identify Opportunities for Growth: I will look for situations where taking a risk could lead to significant growth. For example, I plan to apply for competitive internships, like the CarMax technology internship, despite feeling unsure about whether I will succeed. I will remind myself that the only guaranteed failure comes from not trying.
Assess and Plan: To ensure the risks I take are calculated, I will analyze opportunities and weigh their potential rewards and consequences. This approach will give me the confidence to take action, knowing I have prepared as much as possible.
Start Small and Build Confidence: I will take small risks regularly—whether it’s speaking up in meetings, pitching my podcast to a wider audience, or stepping into leadership positions on campus. Each small success will build my confidence to take on larger challenges.
Embrace a Growth Mindset: I will view failure not as a setback but as a learning opportunity. Even if a risk doesn’t go as planned, I will reflect on the experience, identify lessons learned, and use them to improve.
By pushing myself to take calculated risks, I can grow into a more confident and courageous version of myself. This improvement will allow me to seize opportunities that align with my goals, contribute more effectively to my community, and take bold steps toward achieving excellence.

As someone from the Caribbean who now attends an HBCU, my connection to the African diaspora is deeply personal and ongoing. I have found community, identity, and purpose within spaces celebrating Black culture, history, and advancement. My experiences have grounded me in my roots and pushed me to think about how I can contribute to the diaspora’s future growth and empowerment.
Currently, I am involved in the African diaspora through my active participation in the culture and community fostered at my university, North Carolina A&T State University, the largest historically Black college and university (HBCU). As an international student, attending an HBCU has been transformative. It has allowed me to connect with individuals who, while coming from different backgrounds across the diaspora—whether African, Caribbean, or African-American—share similar experiences and values. I engage in conversations, events, and organizations that promote unity and understanding of our collective identity. This involvement is not just social; it also challenges me to think critically about the shared struggles and victories of the diaspora globally.
Currently, I contribute to the African diaspora by engaging in meaningful discussions and initiatives that celebrate and uplift Black culture on campus and beyond. I actively participate in events hosted by cultural organizations and leadership programs at my HBCU that emphasize community building, professional development, and cultural pride. Whether it’s attending workshops, collaborating with peers on projects that highlight Black excellence, or simply fostering conversations that strengthen connections between African, Caribbean, and African-American students, I strive to create spaces where we can learn from each other and grow together. By being involved, I help amplify the shared experiences of the diaspora and ensure that everyone feels a sense of belonging and empowerment.
In the future, I will continue to uplift the African diaspora by leveraging my education and career in Management Information Systems. I plan to combine my skills in business analysis, technology, and leadership to create opportunities for Black individuals and businesses within the diaspora. Technology has the power to connect us across borders, and I aspire to bridge gaps by providing resources, mentorship, and platforms that amplify Black voices, businesses, and innovators.
Additionally, I intend to remain a strong advocate for education and community-building. Growing up, I witnessed firsthand how shared traditions and cultural pride bring strength to our communities. I want to ensure that future generations, both in the Caribbean and throughout the diaspora, have access to education, mentorship, and networks that allow them to thrive. Whether that is through creating scholarship opportunities, supporting Black-owned businesses, or fostering professional spaces where Black individuals feel seen and valued, my focus will remain on empowering those around me.
Being part of the African diaspora is a lifelong commitment. It is about understanding where we come from, celebrating our shared culture, and creating pathways for progress. My experiences as an international student, a podcaster, and an aspiring leader have solidified my dedication to this work. I look forward to uplifting the diaspora in meaningful ways that honor our past, strengthen our present, and build a brighter future for generations to come.

Losing a loved one can be one of the most challenging experiences in life, especially when it comes unexpectedly. For me, one of the most significant obstacles I’ve had to overcome is the death of my grandfather due to a heart attack. His passing not only brought grief but also forced me and my family to confront the realities of cardiac disease and its impacts on our lives.
My grandfather was a cornerstone of our family. He was a strong, hardworking man who always put his family first. Growing up, I spent countless weekends with him, listening to his stories and learning valuable lessons about life. He was the kind of person who rarely complained about his health, so when he suffered a heart attack, it came as a complete shock to all of us. In a matter of moments, we lost someone who had been so integral to our lives.
The loss of my grandfather was difficult to process. I was young at the time, and understanding the concept of mortality was overwhelming. His passing not only left a void in my life but also created a sense of fear and uncertainty about health and disease. I began to wonder: Could this happen to someone else in my family? Could it happen to me? These questions lingered for a long time, and the anxiety that stemmed from these thoughts became something I had to work through over the years.
Beyond the emotional impact, my grandfather’s death also served as a wake-up call for my family. It forced us to take a closer look at our health habits and make changes to prevent something similar from happening in the future. Cardiac disease is often linked to lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, and stress, and my family realized that we needed to prioritize healthier choices. For instance, we started paying more attention to what we ate. My grandmother, who used to cook hearty, traditional meals, began incorporating more vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains into her cooking. We also became more active as a family, taking walks together and encouraging one another to stay fit.
For me personally, my grandfather’s passing inspired me to become more health-conscious. I learned about the importance of regular checkups and monitoring things like blood pressure and cholesterol. I also developed an interest in understanding the causes of cardiac disease and how it can be prevented. This curiosity pushed me to educate myself and share that knowledge with others, especially my friends and extended family members.
While my grandfather’s death was incredibly painful, it taught me the importance of resilience. Losing him made me realize that life is fragile and that we must take care of ourselves and each other. It also reinforced the importance of cherishing the time we have with our loved ones, because we never know how long they will be with us.
The experience has shaped who I am today. I carry my grandfather’s memory with me as a constant reminder to take my health seriously and to encourage others to do the same. While I cannot change the past, I can use the lessons I’ve learned to build a healthier future for myself and my family. In this way, I honor my grandfather’s legacy and ensure that his passing was not in vain.

One project that I worked on and felt particularly passionate about was the development of a mobile application designed to help small businesses manage their inventory more efficiently. The project was part of a group assignment for my Information Systems course, and from the moment it was introduced, I knew it was something I could connect with personally. Coming from a family with a small business background, I’ve seen firsthand how challenging it can be to keep track of inventory, especially when resources are limited. The opportunity to create a tool that could make this process easier for other small business owners was inspiring and motivated me throughout the entire project.
The mobile application we designed allowed users to scan product barcodes with their phone cameras, automatically input the data into a digital inventory system, and set up notifications when stock levels were low. We also included a feature that generated sales reports, allowing users to track which products were performing best. As a team, we wanted to create something that was not only functional but also user-friendly, especially for business owners who might not be tech-savvy.
From the start, I was deeply invested in the project because I knew the impact a tool like this could have on small businesses. I took on the responsibility of designing the user interface (UI) and experience (UX), ensuring that the application was intuitive and easy to navigate. I spent hours researching best practices for UI design and tested the app with various users to ensure they could use it without confusion. Watching users interact with the prototype and seeing how it simplified their processes gave me immense satisfaction. The fact that we were creating something that had real-world applications made the work feel meaningful, not just an academic exercise.
One of the challenges we faced during the development phase was ensuring the app was compatible with various phone models and operating systems. This issue became particularly tricky when dealing with different barcode scanning software that didn’t function as smoothly across platforms. As a team, we had to experiment with different coding solutions and test each iteration carefully to ensure we maintained the user-friendly experience we were aiming for. This challenge taught me the importance of perseverance and adaptability, especially in technology projects where new problems can emerge unexpectedly.
Working on this project reignited my passion for technology, particularly its ability to solve everyday problems and improve people's lives. The field of technology constantly evolves, offering endless opportunities to innovate and create solutions that positively impact the world. Whether it’s improving business processes, enhancing communication, or finding ways to be more efficient, technology has the power to make complex tasks more manageable. What excites me most is the potential for growth and discovery, knowing that the tools and skills I’m developing now will allow me to contribute to larger-scale innovations in the future.
As I look forward to my career, I am driven by the desire to continue creating technological solutions that have real-world applications. Whether it's working in business analysis, consulting, or another area of tech, I am inspired by the opportunity to make a positive difference in people’s lives through innovation. This project reinforced that passion and motivated me to continue pursuing a path in technology.

I grew up in an environment where agriculture and farming were not just a way of life but a tradition passed down through generations. From an early age, I was introduced to the hard work and dedication required to grow crops and care for livestock, as my family maintained a small farm. This upbringing has shaped me in profound ways, instilling in me values such as patience, resilience, and the importance of sustainability. Working on the farm has given me a deep appreciation for the land, and it’s through this connection to agriculture that I have developed a desire to make a positive impact on the world.
Agriculture is one of the most fundamental sectors of society. It feeds nations, supports economies, and sustains communities. However, as the world faces increasing challenges such as climate change, food insecurity, and environmental degradation, I believe that agriculture has a crucial role to play in addressing these issues. My experiences in farming have taught me the importance of innovation and efficiency in sustainable practices. Whether it’s rotating crops to preserve soil quality or using organic methods to reduce the need for harmful pesticides, I have seen how small changes can have a big impact. These insights have inspired me to pursue a future where I can merge my passion for technology with my agricultural knowledge to create sustainable farming solutions.
One of the key impacts farming has had on my life is the development of a strong work ethic and a sense of responsibility. Farming requires careful planning, attention to detail, and a commitment to seeing tasks through, even when the work is tough. Whether it was waking up early to tend to crops or staying up late during harvest season, I learned the value of perseverance and dedication. These qualities have carried over into other areas of my life, especially in academics and leadership roles. I know that the ability to work hard, remain patient, and stay committed will be key to my future success as I pursue a career that allows me to make a lasting, positive impact on the world.
Looking ahead, I plan to use my background in agriculture as a foundation for my future endeavors in sustainable development and environmental conservation. I am particularly interested in exploring how technology, such as precision farming and data analytics, can optimize agricultural practices while reducing environmental footprints. By combining modern technology with traditional farming knowledge, I believe we can create more efficient, eco-friendly systems that feed growing populations and preserve our planet’s natural resources.
Beyond this, I hope to advocate for small-scale farmers, ensuring they have access to the tools and resources necessary to thrive in an increasingly competitive and industrialized world. Too often, small farmers are left behind in discussions about innovation, but I believe they are a crucial part of the solution to global food challenges.
In conclusion, my involvement in agriculture and farming has profoundly shaped who I am and how I view the world. It has given me a deep respect for the environment and a desire to contribute to its protection. Through my future endeavors, I plan to make a positive impact by advocating for sustainable agricultural practices, advancing technology, and supporting small-scale farmers who are the backbone of global food systems.
Future Leaders Scholarship
One of the most significant moments where I demonstrated exceptional leadership skills occurred during my time leading a group project in my Management class. The task was to design a mock business application that could streamline inventory management for a local retail company. As the team leader, I was responsible for coordinating the work of five classmates with diverse skill sets and varying levels of commitment to the project. This role came with several challenges, but it ultimately became a rewarding experience that taught me valuable lessons about leadership, communication, and problem-solving.
The first challenge I faced was ensuring that everyone in the group was fully engaged. Some team members were initially hesitant to participate actively, either because they didn’t fully understand the task or were more focused on their individual assignments. To tackle this issue, I scheduled an initial team meeting where we discussed the project goals, broke the tasks down into manageable parts, and assigned responsibilities based on each member's strengths and interests. I also made sure to explain the importance of each role, emphasizing how everyone's contribution was vital to the success of the project.
Another challenge arose when we encountered a technical issue with the software we were using to design the business application. The system crashed multiple times, causing us to lose progress, and some team members grew frustrated. To address this, I quickly pivoted and suggested we adopt an alternative cloud-based software that had automatic saving features. I also scheduled an additional meeting with the group to ensure we could recover lost time and continue making steady progress. Through this, I demonstrated adaptability and effective problem-solving, which helped maintain the team's morale and keep us on track.
Throughout the project, I prioritized open communication, ensuring that every team member felt comfortable expressing their concerns or asking questions. I created a shared document where everyone could post updates, questions, or ideas, fostering collaboration. By doing so, I ensured that the quieter members of the group had a platform to contribute, and this improved the quality of our project significantly. Our final presentation was well-received, and our business application prototype was praised for its functionality and user-friendly design. The success of the project not only boosted the group’s confidence but also demonstrated the power of effective teamwork and leadership.
The impact of my leadership extended beyond the successful completion of the project. My team members reported that they felt more confident in their ability to contribute to future group tasks and appreciated the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment where everyone's voice was heard. Personally, the experience reinforced my belief in the importance of communication, adaptability, and problem-solving in leadership roles.
As I move forward in my career, I plan to apply these leadership skills in the field of business analysis and technology consulting. I understand that in professional environments, challenges such as team dynamics and technical setbacks are inevitable. However, by fostering an environment of collaboration and maintaining flexibility, I believe I can make a positive impact. Whether leading a team in developing solutions for clients or collaborating with colleagues on a large-scale project, I plan to use these skills to drive success and create meaningful, lasting change in my future career.

Involvement in athletics has taught me numerous valuable lessons that go beyond the physical aspects of sports. One of the most important lessons is the value of discipline and consistency. Whether it was attending early morning practices or pushing through fatigue, athletics required me to show up and give my best every day. This discipline has taught me that progress and success are built on small, consistent efforts over time. As I enter college, I plan to carry this mindset into my academic life by staying focused and maintaining a routine that allows me to manage my coursework, extracurricular activities, and personal life effectively. I know that discipline will be key to achieving my long-term goals.
Additionally, athletics has taught me the importance of teamwork and communication. Playing on a team has shown me that success is not just about individual talent, but also about working cohesively as a group toward a common goal. I’ve learned how to communicate clearly, motivate my teammates, and step up as a leader when necessary. In college, these skills will be essential both in and out of the classroom. Whether it's in group projects, study sessions, or student organizations, I plan to apply these lessons by collaborating with my peers and fostering an environment of support and cooperation. Teamwork will also play a critical role as I build relationships with professors and mentors, learning from them while contributing my own strengths.
Another key lesson athletics has taught me is resilience. Sports come with challenges—whether it's losing a game, getting injured, or falling short of personal expectations. However, these setbacks have shown me how to persevere, learn from my mistakes, and come back stronger. This mental toughness has shaped my outlook on failure and has taught me not to fear challenges but to see them as opportunities for growth. In college, I know I will face academic and personal difficulties, but the resilience I have developed through athletics will help me tackle those challenges head-on. When things don't go as planned, I will remind myself that persistence is the key to eventual success.
Finally, my involvement in athletics has helped me build a strong work ethic. I've learned that nothing comes easy, and success requires dedication, effort, and perseverance. Whether it was improving my performance or contributing to the success of my team, hard work was always the foundation. As I transition into college, I plan to approach my academic and career goals with the same level of commitment and determination. I understand that achieving success in college and beyond will require consistent effort, and I’m prepared to put in the work to reach my full potential.
In summary, my experience in athletics has equipped me with discipline, teamwork, communication skills, resilience, and a strong work ethic. These lessons have shaped me into a well-rounded individual who understands the value of hard work and perseverance.

"The Summer I Turned Pretty" Fan Scholarship
In The Summer I Turned Pretty, the love triangle between Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah is central to the series. While both brothers have their appeal, Jeremiah stands out as the better choice for Belly. His genuine affection, consistent support, and understanding nature make him the ideal partner for Belly.
From the very beginning, Jeremiah's feelings for Belly are clear and unwavering. He is her constant companion, always by her side when she needs him most. Unlike Conrad, who often keeps his emotions hidden and pushes Belly away, Jeremiah wears his heart on his sleeve. This emotional availability makes him a reliable source of comfort for Belly. For instance, when Belly struggles with her feelings for Conrad and the confusion that comes with growing up, Jeremiah is there to listen and offer a shoulder to lean on. His ability to be emotionally present for Belly, even when it's difficult, highlights his deep commitment to her.
Jeremiah’s lighthearted and fun-loving nature is another reason why he is the better choice for Belly. He brings joy and laughter into her life, making her feel special and cherished. Throughout the series, their interactions are filled with moments of genuine happiness, from playful teasing to carefree adventures. This aspect of Jeremiah's personality contrasts sharply with Conrad’s brooding and often distant demeanor. While Conrad’s moodiness creates tension and uncertainty, Jeremiah's positive energy and zest for life help Belly feel more at ease, allowing her to be her true self.
One of the most significant moments that showcase Jeremiah's respect for Belly’s autonomy is when he confesses his feelings for her. He does so in a way that is sincere and honest, without pressuring her to reciprocate. Jeremiah understands that Belly has her own journey to navigate, and he is patient with her, giving her the space she needs to figure out her feelings. This level of respect is crucial in a healthy relationship and demonstrates Jeremiah's maturity and deep care for Belly's well-being.
Throughout the series, Jeremiah shows significant growth and maturity. Initially portrayed as the more carefree brother, he evolves into someone who understands the complexities of relationships and the importance of communication. His ability to grow and adapt is evident in the way he handles difficult situations, such as the love triangle with his brother Conrad and Belly. Jeremiah is willing to put his feelings aside for the sake of Belly's happiness, even when it hurts him. This selflessness is a testament to his character and his deep love for Belly.
The emotional connection between Jeremiah and Belly is palpable. Unlike the tumultuous and often strained relationship Belly shares with Conrad, her bond with Jeremiah is built on a foundation of friendship, trust, and mutual understanding. This connection is essential for a lasting relationship, as it allows both partners to support each other through life's ups and downs.
In The Summer I Turned Pretty, Jeremiah's unwavering support, fun-loving spirit, respect for Belly's autonomy, and emotional maturity make him the better choice for Belly. While Conrad’s mysterious allure and deep emotions are compelling, it is Jeremiah who consistently shows up for Belly, offering her the love and stability she needs. Team Jeremiah represents a love built on friendship, trust, and mutual respect—qualities that are essential for a healthy and enduring relationship.

Everyone faces adversity in their life, and my journey is no different. Growing up in Jamaica, I experienced a comfortable life until I started high school in a new area. The transition brought unexpected challenges, as I had to navigate public transportation for the first time. I vividly remember the anxiety and fear I felt when I got lost on my way to school. It was a stark reminder that life outside the comfort of home could be overwhelming and intimidating.
On my second day, a former student from my school noticed my struggle and offered to guide me. With his help, I learned the route and gradually gained the confidence to navigate it independently. This simple yet impactful act of kindness was a pivotal moment in my life, teaching me that resilience and perseverance are essential when facing adversity.
Overcoming this challenge required me to step out of my comfort zone and embrace the unknown. The experience taught me the importance of adaptability and problem-solving. Instead of giving in to fear, I took proactive steps to learn and adjust to my new environment. I realized that the key to overcoming adversity lies in facing it head-on, seeking help when needed, and maintaining a positive outlook.
This experience instilled in me a sense of independence and self-reliance. It also fueled my passion for education as a means to overcome obstacles and achieve personal growth. I chose to go to college to further my passion for growth and success in the future, understanding that education opens many doors and provides the tools to navigate life's challenges.
The adversity I faced in high school shaped me into a resilient and determined individual. It taught me that challenges are opportunities for growth and that perseverance is crucial in achieving success. These lessons have stayed with me, influencing my approach to every obstacle I encounter. They have also instilled in me a deep sense of empathy and a desire to help others facing similar challenges.
To anyone facing adversity, my advice is simple: don't be afraid to ask for help and don't let fear paralyze you. Embrace the challenges as opportunities to learn and grow. Remember that resilience is not about never failing, but about getting back up each time you fall. Stay determined, seek support when needed, and believe in your ability to overcome. Growing up in Jamaica, I always had a sense of security, with my family providing the necessary resources to navigate life. However, that security was challenged when I started high school in a new, unfamiliar area, and for the first time, I had to rely on public transportation. The experience was daunting, and I found myself lost and overwhelmed by the complexity of navigating this new world alone.
On my second day of school, a neighbor, who went to the same high school, noticed my struggle and offered to guide me through the route. His simple act of kindness was a turning point; I learned the route and gradually grew more confident in navigating it on my own. This experience was a formative one—it taught me the value of resilience in the face of unfamiliar and challenging situations. Even when I had moments of doubt and fear, I learned to persevere and gained a sense of independence that has stayed with me.
This resilience became a cornerstone of my character. It prepared me to face future challenges with a calm and determined approach. It also instilled in me a profound sense of gratitude and responsibility to assist others facing similar struggles. This sense of responsibility has fueled my commitment to community service and my desire to give back, particularly to those who are just beginning their journeys, much like I was back in high school.
I chose to go to college to further my passion for growth and success in the future. Education opens a lot of doors for people, and I knew that pursuing higher education would equip me with the tools and knowledge to turn my aspirations into reality. I see college as a vital step in continuing my personal and academic development, allowing me to build on the foundation of resilience that has been central to my life so far.
Choosing to attend an HBCU was a decision driven by my desire to be in an environment that not only acknowledges but celebrates resilience, perseverance, and community. HBCUs are institutions that have historically provided education to those who, like me, had to overcome significant barriers to achieve their dreams. My resilience has shaped my academic journey and led me to seek out a community that values these experiences.
At an HBCU, I knew I would be surrounded by individuals who shared similar stories of overcoming adversity. This shared experience would foster a strong sense of belonging and community. The support system at an HBCU would not only provide me with the academic tools to succeed but also with the emotional and cultural support that would allow me to thrive. The decision to attend an HBCU was, therefore, a natural extension of my journey—a place where my resilience would be understood, nurtured, and celebrated.

My background is deeply rooted in the experiences of my immigrant family from Jamaica. Raised in a modest, hardworking environment, I witnessed firsthand the relentless pursuit of dreams amidst adversity. My parents emphasized the significance of education as the key to unlocking a brighter future, instilling in me the values of resilience and tenacity. Their sacrifices fueled my determination to excel academically and break the cycle of limited opportunities that had defined our family's past.
Growing up, financial constraints were a constant companion, yet they never deterred my parents from prioritizing education. This legacy of perseverance inspired me to embrace my studies as a means of opening doors previously closed to our family. Despite the challenges, I maintained a 4.0 GPA and earned the distinction of salutatorian, balancing multiple commitments while contributing to my community.
In terms of community involvement, I have actively engaged in various volunteer activities. From volunteering at Westmoreland State Park, the Montross Library, and the Rappahannock River Valley National Wildlife Refuge, I developed essential qualities such as time management and conflict resolution. These experiences not only honed my leadership abilities but also deepened my appreciation for environmental issues, driving me to share my knowledge and engage in conservation initiatives.
Post-college, I plan to sustain my community involvement by advocating for educational opportunities and serving as a mentor for those facing similar challenges. I am committed to breaking the cycle of limited opportunities by fostering an environment of inclusivity and empowerment. Using my education and experiences, I aim to challenge systemic barriers and ensure that the legacy I leave is one of progress, equality, and compassion. My goal is to redefine the narrative of success within my family, emphasizing personal growth, social impact, and emotional well-being over financial achievements.

I am an undergrad student at North Carolina A&T State University, studying Management Infromation Systems from Jamaica. While studying Management Information Systems, I have been fascinated by the intersection of business, technology, and law, recognizing the profound impact of these fields on society and the global economy. My educational goals are to complete my bachelor's degree with honors, I will then apply for law school. My career goals are between being an attorney or going into the technology field, I have always loved law, but tech has always interested me.
My affinity for law stems from a lifelong fascination with justice, fairness, and the rule of law. The prospect of advocating for others, upholding legal principles, and effecting positive change within the legal system resonates deeply with me. Although, my intrigue with technology stems from its presence in modern society and its potential to revolutionize industries, enhance efficiency, and drive innovation. The allure of working at the forefront of technological advancements, solving complex problems, and shaping the digital landscape is equally compelling.
My family and I moved from Jamaica in 2018 to Virginia, which instilled in me the values of resilience, and tenacity, and the importance of education was emphasized as the key to unlocking a brighter/better future. Transitioning to the American system, I faced challenges adjusting to a new culture and educational environment, but, with my family’s support and compassionate educators, we embraced the diverse learning environment, exploring new interests and pursuing academic excellence with determination. I seized the opportunity to expand my horizons, explore new interests, and pursue academic excellence. WinnerTo me, legacy represents the mark we leave on the world, like one’s character, reputation, the life you lead, and actions that can be treasured by someone through time. It is a beacon that guides future generation's paths to be better than the last generation’s path, a narrative handed down from one generation to the next, and a responsibility to carry forward the wisdom, traditions, and values instilled by those who came before us.
My upbringing has been the foundation of my understanding of legacy. Raised in a modest, hardworking immigrant family from Jamaica, I witnessed the relentless pursuit of dreams amid adversity. My parents and I, immigrants seeking a better life, instilled in me the values of resilience, and tenacity, and the importance of education was emphasized as the key to unlocking a brighter/better future. Their sacrifices, coupled with their unwavering belief in the power of knowledge, laid the foundation for my aspirations and shaped my perception of legacy. My upbringing instilled in me a deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by those who came before me, laying the foundation for the opportunities I have today. The opportunity to come to America to find a better life, to go to university, and to form our perspectives on the world.
Growing up, financial constraints were a constant companion, but they never discouraged my parents from emphasizing the significance of education. Their legacy, a testament to perseverance, inspired me to excel academically. Despite the challenges, I embraced my studies as a means of breaking the cycle of limited opportunities that had defined our family's past. My parents' sacrifice fueled my determination to pursue higher education, opening doors previously closed to our family.
As I navigate through life, I am aware of the impact my choices can have on future generations. The legacy of my upbringing has motivated me to break free from the cycle of circumstances. I plan to continue this legacy by actively contributing to my community, advocating for educational opportunities, and later on serving as a mentor for those facing similar challenges. While I am proud of the resilience instilled by my upbringing, I also recognize the need for evolution.
Legacy is not stagnant; it evolves with each generation. I am committed to breaking the cycle of limited opportunities by fostering an environment of inclusivity and empowerment. I plan to use my education and experiences to challenge systemic barriers, ensuring that the legacy I leave is one of progress, equality, and compassion. Moreover, my goal is to redefine the narrative of success within my family. Instead of measuring success solely by financial achievements, I aspire to emphasize the importance of personal growth, social impact, and emotional well-being. By doing so, I hope to break free from the conventional constraints that may have limited the aspirations of my ancestors, creating a legacy that is expansive, inclusive, and reflective of the evolving world around us.
In conclusion, legacy is a dynamic force that shapes and propels us forward. My upbringing has been both a compass and a catalyst, steering me toward a future of resilience, education, and social impact. I am committed to continuing this legacy by breaking the cycle of limited opportunities, fostering inclusivity, and redefining the metrics of success.
