Bio

I aspire to be a mobile developer in the future. I decided to major in software engineering rather than computer science because of the amount of problem solving there is in this field. Cell phone applications have always been an interest for me and those interests grew even further through two courses I took in high school: Infotech and Intro to Computer Science. Infotech is a course where you come up with an app using blocks of code and you were required to explain what your app had to do. Computer science introduced me to the principles of coding through Python. I consider myself proficient in the language, but will continue to sharpen my skills through other languages I learn in college. I am a hard worker who never gives up, even if the road gets difficult.

    Richard P. Mullen Memorial Scholarship
As someone who is majoring in STEM, you are encountered with many problems and find solutions to those problems. A class in particular opened my mind to different problems in different engineering fields: ENR 110. The process an engineer undergoes for any product they are designing is crucial. This is especially true for all products assigned in the ENR 110 course, such as the bridge design in the Civil Engineering Module, app design in the Software Engineering Module, and Rube Goldberg design in the Mechanical Engineering Module. Ideas were generated as a team for all three of these projects, and designing was implemented, followed by testing and evaluating. As a Software Engineer major, I intend to implement this process for all upcoming projects that involve designing software according to the requirements listed by the professor(s). This will then prepare me for future software projects. Taking ENR 110 showed me the skills engineers should implement throughout their careers. Valuing the importance of my education is keen to my success. I take pride in my work. Having individual meetings with my professors has allowed me to network with them and gear me on the right track through my academic journey. Spending enormous hours studying and preparing for lectures, quizzes, and exams have boosted my confidence in absorbing the material for all my courses. Participating in clubs has opened me to opportunities that I never imagined. Being a member of the Quinnipiac Computing Club has been an exciting experience. From club meetings to hackathons to coding jeopardies, I value the importance of being a software engineering major. This club has allowed me to learn and apply soft and technical skills that will be essential for me in the workforce. I have applied to various internships that will enable me to apply everything I learned to the test. I am excited about this opportunity and aspire to gain valuable knowledge from this experience. With this, I can gain exposure to my passion: being a full-stack software engineer. My motivation and curiosity have taken me to the next level, from learning how to build my website from scratch to getting my first internship as a web developer for a nonprofit organization. Learner Calculus Scholarship
Calculus is a fundamental branch of mathematics that has countless applications in the STEM field. It is an essential tool that helps us understand the world around us and has been described as the mathematics of change. In this article, we will explore why calculus is so important in the STEM field and how it is applied in different areas. One of the most significant applications of calculus in the STEM field is in the study of physics. Calculus is used to describe the motion of objects, from the simple motion of a free-falling object to the complex motion of a planet orbiting a star. Calculus allows us to understand how objects move and how they interact with their environment. Calculus is also used to describe the behavior of waves, from the waves that we see in the ocean to the waves that we can't see, such as radio waves and light waves. Calculus is also an essential tool in the study of engineering. Engineers use calculus to design and analyze systems that involve change, such as the motion of a car, the flow of fluids through pipes, and the behavior of electric circuits. Calculus is used to optimize designs, such as finding the most efficient shape for an airplane wing or the most effective size for a heat exchanger. Without calculus, it would be challenging to design and analyze complex systems that involve change. In the field of computer science, calculus is used to analyze algorithms and data structures. Calculus is used to optimize these algorithms so that they can learn from data more efficiently. Machine learning is an area in computer science that involves building algorithms that can learn from data. Calculus is used to optimize these algorithms so that they can learn from data more efficiently. Calculus is also important in the study of economics. Economists use calculus to model the behavior of individuals and firms and to analyze the impact of policies on the economy. Calculus is used to find the optimal level of production for a firm, the optimal level of consumption for an individual, and the optimal level of taxation for a government. Without calculus, it would be challenging to understand the behavior of individuals and firms in the economy. In conclusion, calculus is an essential tool in many areas of STEM. It is used to describe the motion of objects, the behavior of waves, the design of systems, the analysis of algorithms and data structures, and the modeling of economic behavior. Without calculus, many of the advances that we have made in these fields would not have been possible. Therefore, it is important for anyone pursuing a career in STEM to have a strong foundation in calculus. By learning calculus, you will be able to understand the world around you in a more profound and meaningful way.
    Learner Math Lover Scholarship
Mathematics is a fascinating subject that appeals to people with logical, analytical, and creative minds. It is the language of the universe, and it underlies every aspect of our lives. From simple arithmetic to advanced calculus, math has a beauty and elegance that is awe-inspiring. One of the reasons people love math is its consistency and predictability. In math, there is always a right answer, and it follows a logical path. This reminds me of the times of doing inductive proofs when taking discrete mathematics. Showing the steps to get to the answer while knowing there are many ways to get the right answer is what intrigues me about math. The rules are clear, and they can be applied to various scenarios, making them useful in solving real-world problems. Math is also a creative subject that requires imagination and intuition to solve complex problems. It allows for various approaches to solving problems and often requires one to think outside the box to arrive at a solution. It is this challenge that keeps mathematicians engaged and motivated. As someone who is currently pursuing a degree in stem, I find it very important to take a math class each semester and be able to help enhance the critical thinking skills that are needed within my field of study. Finally, mathematics is a subject that is constantly evolving. It is a field that is continuously advancing, with discoveries, and applications being found regularly. This makes it a subject that never gets old or stale, and there is always something new to learn.

COVID-19 has had an enormous impact on everyone. Schools are shut down, and many places are restricted to many things. The pandemic has had an emotional effect on me. I am someone who enjoys being out and exploring. Not only that, but I am incredibly passionate about the sport that is played by billions around the world. There is nothing better than smelling the fresh-cut grass, the nets blending with the white paint color on the ground, and hearing taps when you juggle a soccer ball. Fortunately, I had this opportunity in the fall, but it did not feel the same. While on the field, your mind is not only on the game but also the fear of contracting COVID anytime. This feeling is not only felt on the field but also anywhere I went. There would be times when I would cry because the pandemic taught me to be grateful to wake up every morning happy and healthy. Some people are not able to wake up or be able to sit down at their dinner table. I happen to be one of those people. There are many people who are willing to go and risk their lives to save other people's lives. My uncle sacrificed his life as a front line worker, dealing with patients non stop. It would get to a point where it was very overwhelming for him. One day, he was experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and forced to be hospitalized immediately. After numbers battles under an oxygen tank, my uncle's fight against the virus was over. The virus outweigh my uncle all because he was willing to go out, battle, and save people's lived. Because of my uncle's tremendous help, many families are able to reunite, and continue with their lives. The pandemic has also taught me to enjoy every moment and live to the fullest because there are many beautiful things to experience. Because of my uncle's lost, I have the bright side of things, and always remind myself of how he is a true warrior. I feel motivated to going out of my way and help those in need through local organizations that are in need of volunteers. I enrolled in the Engineering and Science University Magnet School because I wanted to learn and develop the skills to get me to my goal of being a software engineer. Engineering has been a huge interest for me since middle school. Specifically, technology is evolving more, and I want to be apart of that community where technology is used to voice out what's going on. Ever since I was little, I have always had a passion for anything tech-related. I remember when I got a PS3 for the first time; I would be on it for hours and always said to myself, " I want to design software." Every day, my interest in designing software has grown as I would encounter events that motivate me to develop software that would change the tech community. I would always say that I am not an obedient boy because I am curious and always want to try new things. I am currently attending a STEM school, and I am fortunate enough to learn the basics of computer engineering and coding. I have participated in many software events, and last school year, a group and I came up with an app where we help reduce stress for college students by helping them with simple tasks. These tasks include helping them pick up food, fix their car, tutoring, and so forth. During college, I plan on taking lots of interns to help me take that step of becoming my future career. It will be a long process, but I do have the desire to work for tech companies. It all started as a dream when I thought of running for class president in middle school. For me, it was a decision I knew was going to change me for the greater good. The moment I found out I got elected as class president felt like I won the lottery. From that moment, I did not hesitate to make my first move. At that time, my classmate's house got caught on fire and unfortunately lost all of his and family's belongings. No one had known about what happened, so I decided to voice out what had happened to him by organizing a walk-a-thon fundraiser during the school day. With the school administration's help, I organized events for the walk-a-thon, including football and basketball tournaments, pie contests, yard games, and so forth. I was fortunate enough to raise more than $3,000 for my classmate's family. Because of this experience, I learned the values of giving back to the ones who need it. I enrolled in the Engineering and Science University Magnet School because I wanted to learn and develop the skills to get me to my goal of being a software engineer. During my junior year, my infotech teacher enrolled my class in the Skills 21 Technology Challenge. In middle school, I played for a local soccer team. I wanted to be captain of the team, but there were challenges along the way. I did not have the traits of being a leader: accountability, empathy, vision, influence, and positivity. Throughout the season, I worked hard to improve on those traits by communicating more with my teammates, cheering them on when things do not go their way, and always trying to see things positively. Unfortunately, I wasn't captain for that season, but the process made me have the leadership skills I mentioned early and shaped me to be a leader. We are currently empowering this generation to work hard, to keep fighting for what we really are passionate about. We are examples for future generations among us, and we can show them the values of how Latinos empower America. We all work for what we desire to be. If we demonstrate to others that we can do it, we will be an example of Latinos and other races. My parents are a great example of teaching me working hard and not giving up. One time, my family was poor, and we only ate a loaf of bread for dinner. My dad did not want me to go through what I was going through again, so he told me, " Keep fighting for what you want to be because you have the power of empowering your generation to work and move forward. Do not be disappointed in where you come from because you will show your pride out. You will not have the motivation of wanting to do more." My hunger comes from seeing my family having to work more than 2 jobs a day just to put food on the table and pay bills. My father has always been the most influential person in my life. I remember this one time when my family only had enough to put food on the table. I, including my family, were starving, and one day my dad came him with only a dollar roll from the grocery store. He was able to split the roll into fourths and gave everyone in the house a piece. He told me," Work your butt off so that you don't suffer the way I have to." From that moment, I have been working hard on the promise that I made to him, both on and off the field.

During my junior year, my infotech teacher enrolled my class in the Skills 21 Technology Challenge. Since many college students encounter an enormous amount of stress, the class wanted to develop a service that will reduce stress. With the help of many teachers, extensive research, and outside resources the school had to offer, we could develop an app that will enable the college community together. Any college student can sign up to help or get help with basic tasks, such as fixing a flat tire, getting help with food, homework, and many more tasks. After a long seven months, the class was announced first place in the competition at an expo held virtually. Currently, I am attending Quinnipiac University majoring in software engineering. I aspire to continue the road of being a software engineer. I am currently out seeking internships that will enhance my chances of landing on a job related to software engineering.

You will not have the motivation of wanting to do more." COVID-19 has had an enormous impact on everyone. My motivation comes from seeing my family having to work more than two jobs a day just to put food on the table and pay bills. My father has always been the most influential person in my life. I remember this one occasion when my family only had enough to put food on the table. I, including my family, was undernourishing, and one day my dad came home with only a dollar roll from the grocery store. He was able to split the roll into fourths and gave everyone in the house a piece. He told me," Work vigorously so that you do not suffer the way I have to." From that moment, I knew I had to take the steps that will help me reach my goal. It has been almost a year of learning remotely, and overall, the experience brought many uplifting and down lifting moments. Some individuals engage with the class, but there can be times when the class is quiet. Not only that, but many still have issues with the internet, which does significantly impact the education of someone. Having no distractions whatsoever has made me learn a lot more than getting distracted by someone or something. Learning remotely has opened many teachers to offer individual help, which many teachers did not do. I also learned how to manage my time wisely to work on assignments and manage other tasks. I have learned the value of my education, something that no one can take away from, and something valuable than other things in life.

Calculus is important in STEM because it teaches one the significance of how calculus has an impact on the world around us. Many engineers have to rely on math, so it’s essential for calculus to be around. Without it, many engineers or others would struggle with how to innovate the world around us.

I enrolled in the Engineering and Science University Magnet School because I wanted to learn and develop the skills to be a software engineer. My infotech teacher enrolled my class in the Skills 21 Technology Challenge during my junior year. Since many college students encounter enormous stress, the class wanted to develop an app to reduce stress. With the help of many teachers, extensive research, and outside resources the school offered, we could develop an app that will enable the college community together. Any college student can sign up to help or get help with basic tasks, such as fixing a flat tire, getting help with food, homework, and many more tasks. After seven months, the class was announced first place in the competition at an expo held virtually. After that experience, I learned the importance of soft skills needed as an engineer. My role for the project was to be a website developer, and at the time, I had no experience in developing websites. I did not even know where to start, so I decided to seek resources in order to be able to develop a website that stands out. With the feedback from those within my team, I developed and deployed a website that was then used showcased at the Skills 21 competition. I was also a part of the app development team, where wireframes for the actual app were produced. My passion for wanting to be a software engineer grew even further.

    Community Service is Key Scholarship
I knew I wanted to be a part of an organization willing to leave an influence within the community. For three months, the organization I served at is called The Agency on Aging. The organization aimed to enhance the lives of senior citizens in the state of Connecticut by providing resources to those who are unable to get access to help the state of Connecticut has to offer. While serving seventy hours of community service, I learned the importance of giving back to the community. My role for the three months I served at the organization was to collect information from senior citizens who have called the agency to meet the needs of senior citizens in the past. The Agency on Aging categorizes meeting the needs of seniors as impressions on state programs and services in the community. The average time to collect information from one would take around twenty minutes. The reason is that I wanted to ensure that the needs of senior citizens were being met. Various of them have been informed of the “shameful” resources being provided to them and the need for more accessibility to them. For example, many senior citizens feel that the state is implementing resources through the internet, which is a problem for many as they are unable to have access to a resource that will let them access the internet. Another need mentioned was the injustice towards senior citizens. In other words, senior citizens were not feeling a part of their communities, as they described to me as being treated “unfairly” or “not having the right to speak out.” After gathering all of the information from every senior citizen who decided to partake in the questionnaires Beverly Kidder, my mentor, and supervisor, has produced for me, I noticed the significant need senior citizens need. More needs to be done for them, as they are meaningful to our society. Not enough resources are being provided to them, specifically those I have addressed earlier and long-term services. I believe in the mission The Agency on Aging aims to do, which is “ seeing the society’s conception of older adults to evolve to encompass the full range represented by those populations.” Being a part of the Agency of Aging community evoked me to express change towards senior citizens in Connecticut. Aiming to serve a community will invoke many others to spread awareness on this significant matter.

In middle school, I ran and was elected as class president for three consecutive years. During my first year, a classmate of mine shared a story I know had to be addressed. On a stormy Wednesday night, he was getting ready to sleep until he notices a bright and raging flame coming out of his kitchen. As he attempted to call for help, the flames enraged, like an erupting volcano. The flame's enragement took over and burned everything inside of his house. He and his family were left with nothing. With the help of teachers and local organizations that partnered with the school, I organized a school-wide fundraiser. More than $3,000 was fundraised for my classmate and his family. After reflecting on the success of the fundraiser, from that moment, I realized that my voice is capable of making change. You will not have the motivation of wanting to do more."

The pandemic has also taught me to enjoy every moment and live to the fullest because there are many beautiful things to experience.

I enrolled in the Engineering and Science University Magnet School because I wanted to learn and develop the skills to get me to my goal of being a software engineer. During my junior year, my infotech teacher enrolled my class in the Skills 21 Technology Challenge. My question remains after encountering many events, but with an additional question, how can I change using technology? To answer that question, I intend to major in computer science and participate in various internships that will enable me to be the inquisitive person I have always been.
