At age 56, I decided to get a college degree. I started by getting my GED in 2022. I dropped out of high school in the 11th grade. I believe I had an undiagnosed learning disability. In my early 20s, however, I found my career in computer science. I built a successful career in computer science. For most of my career, I spent as an ERP consultant and the last eight years as a data engineer. I have struggled with addiction for years. In my 50’s, I decided to take my life back. I went through rehab and have become much healthier mentally and physically. I want to help others overcome drug and alcohol addiction and live a peaceful life. For this reason, I decided to pursue a drug and alcohol counseling career. I am currently enrolled at the College of Western Idaho, pursuing a degree in Psychology. Although I do not have a college education, I have proven my ability to learn in my career. My career has taken me across the US, Canada, England, Australia, and New Zealand. I provided well for my family, including my two wonderful children. They are both in college now, and I hope to inspire them to continue their education and pursue their passions. I love college. I aim to complete my associate’s degree at the College of Western Idaho and transfer to graduate school in Idaho to pursue my Bachler’s degree. Depending on my ability to earn scholarships and loans, I hope to continue and get my master’s degree. I am working and going to school full time. I do not think this is practical in the long term.
