How does our world function? That is something that interests me. My AP Environmental Science class has opened my eyes and allowed me to see the world differently. The way I look upon the world is now with a lens of appreciation and with a sense of duty to learn more about it and ways to protect it. Anthropogenic. This word means 'derived from human activities'; environmental science does not exist without seeing the word 'anthropogenic' countless times. You come to find out that everything that humans do has a cause and effect. Something that a person deems as a small changing impact, could unknowingly cause detrimental damage to our one-of-a-kind planet. Environmental science can be depressing at times because you learn about just how much humans impact everything. So should we just give up? If human impact is unending; should we just give up? The answer is no. I believe our planet was given to us for us to take care of it. Taking care of it ensures our future generations to live and grow up with a healthy planet. Thus I have made it my mission to further my education about our precious planet. My duty in life is to make an impact on communities by educating others on how humans affect Earth. I aim to leave a clean world and sick-free from pollution for the generations to come. Educating others is key to ensuring people understand our detrimental impact. If everyone took an Environmental science class; their eyes would indeed also be opened to the reality that is occurring. Our planet is planned to undergo a mass extinction because of anthropogenic activities. Thus I believe that it is my duty to learn and research about our Earth. I thank you for your consideration and wish nothing but the best for the Beretta family.

I plan on going to college and obtaining a degree in Environemental Biology. My aspiration in life is to work in a field that helps the environment by creating or maintaining sustainable ways that ensures its thrive. Growing up as a first generation low-income person with a single dad, I had to rely on my community. My community helped me thrive during tough times and even gave me rides to and from school. Being able to go to school (thanks to my community) and taking the hardest classes that my ambitious self wanted, I was able to discover my love of Environmental Science. It was my first and only class that truely inspired me to give back to my community by trying to protect and maintain it. I crotchet reusable bags for my family and friends to reuse. It is a small step but a step nonetheless within my powers that will help sustainably maintain my community. I hope to one day be able to do more to help my community by searching for ways to further maximize our effiency of our finite resources, or becoming a teacher that gets to encourage sustainability and fill others with the same love that I have about Environmental Science.
