Growing up, I learned that challenges can either stop you or motivate you to grow. As a first-generation college student, I have had to balance school, work, and personal responsibilities while figuring out my future on my own. Working full-time while attending college has not been easy, but it has taught me discipline, responsibility, and perseverance. There have been moments where I felt overwhelmed trying to manage everything at once, but those experiences pushed me to become stronger and more focused on my goals. Seeing the sacrifices my family has made for me motivates me to keep going and create opportunities that previous generations in my family did not have. My personal experiences have shaped my sense of purpose by showing me how important support and understanding can be during difficult times. Because of this, I plan to study psychology and eventually work in the mental health field. I want to help people who are struggling with trauma, stress, and other life challenges because I understand how powerful encouragement and guidance can be. To me, being a first-generation college student means more than earning a degree. It means breaking barriers, building a better future for myself and my family, and proving that difficult circumstances do not define a person’s potential. Every obstacle I have faced has strengthened my determination to succeed and make a positive impact on others.
