Lee Aca Thompson Performing Arts Scholarship
Growing up in a household filled with the sound of music, I developed a deep passion for this art from a very young age. From listening to my parents' eclectic music collection to joining my school bands throughout grade school, jazz music has always been an integral part of my life. As I progressed through my education, I had the opportunity to learn to play various musical instruments, such as the Saxophone (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone), Percussion (both Concert and Jazz), and Piano which further fueled my love for music. Studying music has taught me the importance of discipline, dedication, and hard work. It has also provided me with a platform to express my creativity and emotions. Through music, I have learned how to collaborate with others, communicate effectively, and manage my time efficiently. These skills have helped me in my musical pursuits and have also been "instrumental" in shaping my overall character. Upon completing my degree, I aspire to become an active performer of Jazz music. My goal is to inspire and nurture the musical talents of young students, peers, and listeners, just as my musical giants did for me. I believe that Jazz music is a powerful tool for personal and intellectual development, and I am passionate about sharing the transformative power of Jazz with others. I hope to instill a love for music in my students and help them realize their full potential. In addition to performing, I am eager to pursue a career as an active Jazz composer and arranger. I plan to use my knowledge and skills to create and share music that is as meaningful as it is impactful. Whether through live performances, recordings, or collaborations with other artists, I want to contribute to the diverse and ever-evolving world of music. By continuously learning and exploring new musical horizons, I aim to push the boundaries of creativity and deliver compelling musical experiences to audiences around the globe. Furthermore, I am committed to giving back to the community through music outreach programs. I strongly believe in the power of music to bring people together and uplift spirits. By volunteering and organizing musical events for underserved communities, I hope to make a positive difference in the lives of those who may not have easy access to music education and live performances. Receiving this scholarship would significantly alleviate the financial burden associated with pursuing my music degree. It would allow me to focus on my studies and practical training without worrying about overwhelming student debt. With this support, I will fully immerse myself in my musical endeavors and make the most of every opportunity to learn, create, and inspire. My deep-rooted passion for music, coupled with my aspirations to educate, perform, compose, and engage in community outreach, drives my determination to excel in the field of music. I am confident that with the support of this scholarship, I can continue to pursue my dreams and make a positive impact through the universal language of music.
