My name is Keona, and I will be attending FAMU in the Fall of 2024 to study Business Administration. With my passion for leadership and management, as well as adding my love for Legal Studies, my long term goal is to become a Lawyer in the Business field. As I am currently graduating with honors in the top 15% of my class, I aspire to lower that percentage to top 10% or 5% come college graduation. All while maintaining a part-time job and being a two-year track and field veteran, I am an active member of five clubs at my school, currently holding an officer position for two of them; while in college, I plan to engage in other academic and athletic clubs to maintain a balanced lifestyle and foster teamwork. Additionally, I volunteer for my church on Wednesday nights, dedicating over 400 hours to community service overall. My involvement in diverse clubs demonstrates my commitment to personal and professional development, volunteering reflects my dedication to community service and my ability to balance multiple responsibilities, and my academic goals highlight my ambition and drive for excellence. I am a big dreamer and I know that if I work hard enough, I can get to where I want to be!

William R. Godfrey Scholarship
Education has always been a cornerstone of progress, empowering individuals to uplift themselves and their communities. Although I have lived in Pembroke Pines the majority of my life, my mother grew up in Liberty City with four other siblings; my grandmother instilled in her the importance of education, and in my life, did the same for me, emphasizing the transformative power of an education. She went to school and worked very hard to get to where she is today, becoming a high school teacher to help instill the importance of education in her students; throughout my life, she has encouraged me to dream big and work hard, reminding me that I can achieve anything that I put my mind to, and too, that the only limit is my mind. Inspired by her emphasis on learning and determined to make a difference, I aspire to leverage my academic journey in Business Administration and Law to drive positive change in my community.
A business degree will equip me with versatile skills in management, finance, marketing, and strategy. Armed with this knowledge, I envision several ways to contribute to my community, one being entrepreneurship. By fostering entrepreneurial initiatives, I aim to stimulate economic growth and create employment opportunities locally. Through mentorship programs and startup incubators, aspiring entrepreneurs can receive guidance and support to turn their ideas into thriving businesses, thereby strengthening the local economy.
Empowering individuals with financial knowledge is essential for economic empowerment. Through workshops, seminars, and educational campaigns, I plan to educate community members on budgeting, saving, and investing, thereby fostering financial independence and resilience. Building upon the foundation of my business degree, I am committed to pursuing a Juris Doctor (J.D.) Degree and becoming a licensed attorney. This additional expertise will enable me to advocate for justice and equality, particularly in marginalized communities.
Access to legal representation is often limited for disadvantaged individuals. As a lawyer, I aim to provide services and advocate for the rights of those who cannot afford legal assistance. By addressing issues such as housing discrimination, employment rights, and criminal justice reform, I seek to promote fairness and social equity.
In conclusion, my journey yet to come is fueled by a deep-rooted commitment to serving my community and honoring the values instilled by my mother. By leveraging my business degree and legal education, I aspire to be a catalyst for positive transformation, empowering individuals, and fostering inclusive growth.
