I grew up in rural Georgia in a Deaf family and attended deaf schools throughout my childhood. Those experiences shaped who I am and how I see education. I learned early on that school can either open doors for students or quietly shut them, depending on how well language and instruction are accessible. Seeing both the strong parts of Deaf education and the gaps that still exist is what really pushed me toward teaching and shaped the kind of educator I want to be. I graduated from Gallaudet University in 2024 with two bachelor’s degrees and I am now a licensed second-year math teacher at a Deaf school, where I teach Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Probability & Statistics. In my classroom, I focus on access, rigor, and giving students real ownership over their learning. A big part of my work is helping Deaf students build confidence in math by making sure instruction is clear, fully accessible, and centered in language they can truly engage with.
Outside of school, I live in Washington DC where I like exploring new coffee shops, riding scooters around the city, and traveling whenever I get the chance. I am also a graduate student, continuing my studies because I want to keep growing as an educator and keep improving how math is taught and made accessible for Deaf and hard of hearing students.
