" Why marketing?" my mother asked. "Let's just say I've asked Siri to navigate straight to Google's door, aiming to sprinkle some of my marketing magic as their future Chief Marketing queen," I answered back at her, setting a crown on my head. My aspirations and motivations are HIGH for starting a career in the field of marketing. From a young age, I've been captivated by the power of storytelling and its ability to connect people from different backgrounds and stories. Marketing, according to me, demonstrates the intersection of creativity, strategy, and innovation. It's a world where a person can create narratives that connect deeply with individuals while also driving business growth. My passion for marketing comes from a desire to make a meaningful impact by making creative strategies to reach and engage audiences on a global scale. Among the tons of opportunities in this field, my ultimate goal is to become the Chief Marketing Manager of Google. I am drawn to Google not only for its innovative technological advancements but also for its commitment to inclusivity and diversity. Also, its ability to influence and shape the digital landscape. One of my inspirations in this field is Bozoma Saint John. As a Black girl walking in the corporate world, her journey and accomplishments resonate deeply with me. Her amazing career path, resilience, and unwavering commitment to authenticity have served as a guiding light, showing me that it is possible to break barriers and thrive in leadership roles within the marketing industry. As I envision my ideal role, I aspire to be a leader who fosters an inclusive and collaborative environment. I believe in the power of diverse perspectives and aim to champion diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within the workplace. My dream is to not only drive marketing strategies but also to teach and empower the next generation of marketers, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds. In addition, my ideal industry/company values innovation, creativity, and social responsibility. I see myself choosing an organization that prioritizes ethical practices, embraces change, and continuously strives to push the boundaries of what's possible in marketing while staying true to its core values. I am incredibly grateful for this scholarship as it brings me closer to achieving my goals. Your belief in my potential fuels my confidence to be great academically and professionally. I am committed to making the most of this opportunity and am eager to continue learning and growing in the field of marketing.

Getting a business administration degree means the whole world to me, and here is why. I'm attending the illustrious Tuskegee University because I have this big dream of diving into the world of marketing. It's not just about a career—it's about making a real difference. My tough journey through anorexia and body dysmorphia opened my eyes to something huge: the unrealistic standards of beauty and the pressures around weight and appearance. Marketing is powerful. It shapes what we see, how we think, and even how we feel about ourselves. Instagram, TikTok, and all these other platforms—constantly bombarding young girls with weight loss programs, detox teas, and anti-aging products—making us believe them having different bodies or aging is something to fix. But I want to change that narrative. I'm pursuing a business degree because I believe education is the golden key to changing these harmful messages. I want to learn the ins and outs of marketing so that I can create campaigns that celebrate authentic beauty. I want to reach young and teen girls, to show them that it's okay to have different bodies and that aging is a natural part of life. I want them to know that they don't need to submit to these unrealistic standards pushed by social media and don't give in to an industry that profits off of the woman's insecurity. My goal is to use what I learn to create marketing strategies that promote self-acceptance and diversity. I mean, REAL diversity. I want to partner with brands that believe in authenticity, empowering young people to love themselves just the way they are. Imagine advertisements that focus on inner strength, confidence, and the beauty of being unique and "weird" instead of pushing products promising lies and quick fixes. Through my HBCU education, I plan to collaborate with community organizations, schools, and ESPECIALLY influencers to spread this important message. I want to organize workshops and campaigns that educate young minds about body positivity, mental health, and the dangers of chasing unrealistic ideals. I believe that by reaching out to the community, especially the youth, I can make a real impact on how they perceive themselves and others. At the end of the day, I don't want to sell products—I want to sell a mindset. I want to inspire a generation to value themselves beyond their looks and their "aesthetics." I want to encourage them to embrace and love who they are and be proud of their differences. That's the kind of change I want to bring to my community and beyond. This business degree isn't just a pathway to a job and a good salary; it's a platform for me to push for a positive change. It's a tool that will allow me to challenge the harmful norms perpetuated by makeup, plastic surgery, and even the social media industry. I want to be part of a movement that redefines beauty and empowers individuals to love themselves unconditionally.
    Elevate Mental Health Awareness Scholarship
Experiencing tough times with my mental health has changed how I view the world, my relationships, and my beliefs in such a heartbreaking way. My set point weight was 130, ate nothing but cottage cheese, Diet Coke, and small chicken sandwiches resulting in me being 118. That's quite unhealthy being a 5'7 girl. These struggles made me super focused on my looks. I thought that to be liked or successful, I had to look a certain way. It was like I believed in something called "pretty privilege," where being attractive meant life would be easier. This made me put all my energy into how I looked instead of focusing on my studies. Because of these beliefs, it messed with my relationships. I brainwashed myself thinking that because I wasn't the ideal and Eurocentric beauty standard, I didn't deserve love from my partner or the same opportunities as others. It made it hard for me to believe that people valued me for who I am beyond just my looks. Dealing with an eating disorder changed things between me and my mom. At the peak of my struggles, I pushed her away when she was trying to help me. I remember a moment when she wanted me to eat a whole BBQ rib plate, and I just couldn't handle it. I pushed her away physically, causing a whole fight, because I felt so much pressure around food. She saw me change in ways that hurt her a lot. I stopped enjoying foods I used to love, like hot polishes, Crumbl Cookies, and even my grandma's goulash. It was like my self-hatred towards my body made me reject these things that once brought me joy. This made my mom sad because she knew I was hurting inside and physically. I still feel the chest pains, my heart trying to pump itself without proper energy... My actions and feelings during that time put a large dent in our relationship. She wanted to help me, but it was hard for her to understand what was going on inside my head. Looking back, I see how much pain I caused her, and I wish I could have handled things differently. It's been a tough journey, but we're working on healing our relationship together. Slowly but surely. It also affected my studies. Instead of working hard on my academics, I spent too much time trying to fit into this idea of beauty that I had in my head. It held me back from giving my best in school. But things are changing for me. I'm starting to see that there's more to beauty than what meets the eye. It's a slow journey, but I'm learning to appreciate my body for what it is. I'm starting to understand that my worth isn't tied to the amount of fat I have on my body and the number on the scale. Now that I'm at Tuskegee University studying business administration, I've got big dreams in marketing. These experiences have made me want to change the game in marketing. I want to create campaigns that show all kinds of bodies and celebrate diversity. I want everyone to see that they're beautiful in their unique way. Going through all of this has changed what I believe in. I've learned to be perseverant and more understanding because of it. It also taught me to accept myself and others without judging. And these lessons are what I'm carrying forward in my studies and what I dream of doing in my career. Overall, dealing with mental health issues has taught me a lot about myself and the world around me. It's changed my beliefs, how I connect with people, and what I want to achieve in my life. And it's pushing me to work hard to make a difference in the world of marketing, showing everyone that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.
Private (PVT) Henry Walker Minority Scholarship
If I were granted the privilege to enhance my community, I would be committed to addressing the issue of limited access to healthy food resources in Black low-income neighborhoods. As a business administration major with a keen interest in marketing and a prospective student at Tuskegee University, I am determined to use my education and skills to bring about positive change. The scarcity of healthy food options in Black communities is a problem that strikes close to my heart. Having witnessed firsthand the adverse impact of limited access to nutritious foods on the health and well-being of individuals within these neighborhoods, I am driven to take immediate action. Lots of studies have shown that the lack of healthy food resources contributes to higher rates of health issues such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease within the Black community. My vision involves carrying out targeted marketing strategies to raise awareness of the importance of healthy eating and to promote accessibility to nutritious foods in these underserved areas. Through collaborative efforts with local businesses, community organizations, and health advocates, I aim to create programs that educate residents about making healthier food choices, as well as push affordable and fresh produce within these neighborhoods. This initiative is of greatest importance to me for several reasons. Firstly, I believe that every individual deserves access to quality and nutritious food regardless of their socio-economic background; healthy food is a right, not a privilege. Secondly, by addressing the root causes of health disparities, we can strive towards creating a more equitable society where everyone has the opportunity to lead a healthy life. Attending Tuskegee University, an institution renowned for its commitment to service and community engagement, will give me the necessary knowledge and resources to drive this change effectively. My goal is not only to pursue a career in marketing but to use my skills to advocate for social justice and make a tangible difference in underserved communities. Also, black people tend to ignore the importance of mental health. My vision involves utilizing targeted marketing campaigns to destigmatize mental health discussions within these communities and to promote the availability of affordable or free mental health resources. Through collaboration with local mental health organizations, community leaders, and educational institutions, I want to initiate programs that provide information, counseling services, and support networks to individuals who may otherwise not have access to such resources. Your support would enable me to fulfill my aspirations of contributing meaningfully to my community and effecting positive change.

My parents are underrated heroes. Why underrated, you may ask? Sometimes we forget to thank and appreciate them. Their journey through challenges and their unwavering work ethic have shaped me profoundly. Growing up, I witnessed their resilience and determination in the face of adversity, which has sculpted the person I am today. My parent's pursuit of their passions wasn't a smooth road. They searched tirelessly for careers that resonated with their hearts, but none of them was doing the thing. My mom currently works as a receptionist and my dad builds tractors. I've learned from their experiences that finding one's path isn't always straightforward. Their perseverance taught me the value of resilience, the importance of exploring different paths, and the courage to pursue what truly matters. Financial difficulties hit us hard. I still remember the moment when my mom had to file for bankruptcy. It was a tough blow, but they never lost hope. Instead, they turned to alternative means like DoorDash and Rover to make ends meet. Witnessing their dedication to supporting our family despite setbacks instilled in me the importance of adaptability and resourcefulness. Moving from Peoria, IL, where crime rates were high, to West Point, GA, was a significant moment. It showed me that my parents were willing to make sacrifices for our well-being. Their decision reinforced the significance of creating a safe and nurturing environment for me and my little sister, setting an example of putting family first. Despite the hardships, my parents never wavered in their commitment to my education. They've made sacrifices and worked tirelessly to fund my schooling at Tuskegee University. Their sacrifices remind me of the importance of taking opportunities and making the most of the educational chances they've worked so hard to provide. But it's not just their sacrifices that shape me. It's their attitude towards hardships. My mom carries guilt about her past decisions before having me, wishing she did better so we could be in a better predicament, but she also demonstrates resilience by striving for a better future. Her determination to move forward, despite regrets, teaches me the power of self-forgiveness and the courage to keep pushing forward. Their story instilled in me a deep appreciation for hard work and determination. I've learned that setbacks are not big walls to stop at, but growth opportunities. Their sacrifices fueled my determination to succeed in my studies and build a future where their efforts don't go unnoticed. My parents' journey has been a guiding light in my life. Their struggles, sacrifices, and unyielding work ethic have shaped my values and aspirations. They've taught me resilience, adaptability, the importance of family, and the relentless chasing of my dreams. As I navigate through my education, their story serves as a constant ringing bell of the power of perseverance and the importance of taking every opportunity. With this scholarship, I hope to honor their sacrifices and continue the legacy of hard work and determination they have given to me.

For me, education is the key that unlocks a world of possibilities despite facing worrying trials. Chasing knowledge became my refuge during some of life's hardest moments. Battling anorexia and depression was a struggle, but education served as a ray of hope for me, guiding me toward the path of understanding mental health, coping mechanisms, and the importance of self-care. It highlighted a path toward healing and recovery, offering insights that existed outside of the classroom walls. Moreover, the losses of my beloved grandfather, Leroy, to heart disease, and my uncle KJ to abuse and cancer brought storms and tornadoes to my world. Education became my comfort, providing me with the tools to comprehend the complexities of health, social issues, and the need for advocacy. Through perseverance and seeking professional help, I was able to overcome this disorder and develop a healthier relationship with my body and food, which also healed my relationship with my mother. Unfortunately, my journey was impacted by the loss of my grandfather, Leroy, to heart disease. Additionally, my uncle KJ, who suffered from cancer, endured abuse from certain family members while battling this life-taking disease. Witnessing his pain and the toll it took on our family boosted my passion for advocating for those who are vulnerable and marginalized. It is an opportunity to not only receive a quality education but also to immerse myself in a nurturing and empowering environment that celebrates and uplifts Black culture and achievements. HBCUs have a great history of providing access to education for marginalized communities, and being part of this legacy fills me with tons of pride. At Tuskegee, I have found a community that encourages me to embrace my Blackness, history, and culture. Healing Self and Community Scholarship
In a globe where mental health is crucial, I aspire to be the golden key for change by making mental health care affordable and accessible to all. Me suffering from anorexia and depression, I understand the stress and challenges young people face, specifically young girls. My unique contribution involves creating a digital platform that provides free resources, counseling services, and educational materials to support mental well-being. In a world where technology is constantly evolving, we can use that to break down barriers by offering a confidential space for individuals to seek guidance and hope. Additionally, I’d plan to organize local events in high schools and colleges, fostering open conversations about mental health to reduce stigma, especially in HBCUs, where the student body ignores mental health. By combining innovation, community engagement, and accessibility, my goal is to ensure that no one feels alone in their mental health journey. This scholarship would give me the chance to achieve this vision, creating a world where mental health care is a right, not a privilege…

I am writing to share my appreciation for the scholarship you have generously provided and to share a recommendation that has not only enriched my relaxation time, but also contributed significantly to my personal and cultural awareness. I would like to bring to your attention to my favorite Netflix series: "On My Block.” It’s a show that has captivated audiences with its unique blend of humor, drama, and social commentary. It’s set in a diverse neighborhood of Los Angeles, the series follows a group of high school friends as they navigate the challenges of adolescence and the complexities of their community. What makes "On My Block" truly worth binge-watching is its authentic portrayal of underrepresented communities. The show goes beyond typical high school narratives, shedding light on the nuanced experiences of characters facing socio-economic struggles, gang influences, and the pursuit of education against all odds. As a scholarship recipient, I found the representation of diverse backgrounds and the resilience of the characters to be both inspiring and very eye-opening. The show’s creators perfectly weaved humor into the storyline, providing moments of light-heartedness amidst the serious themes, such as gun violence, family dynamics, and educational persists. This balance not only makes "On My Block" entertaining but also allows viewers to connect emotionally with the characters on a profound level, especially the Gen-Z crowd. By showcasing stories that often go untold and ignored, the show plays a crucial role in focusing on inclusivity and breaking down negative stereotypes, especially for people of color. This aligns with the ideals I aspire to promote as a scholarship recipient, emphasizing the importance of equal opportunities and understanding across all communities. The show, "On My Block," is more than just a TV show—it's a cultural phenomenon that has the power to educate, inspire, and bridge gaps in understanding. Anorexia, an awful eating disorder, has given me numerous challenges in my life. It has affected me physically, emotionally, mentally, and even spiritually. Physically, the disorder has caused significant weight loss, malnutrition, and various health complications. My healthy weight is 135, and my obsession with thinness and conforming to unhealthy beauty standards led me to lose 25 pounds in two months. Emotionally, it has led to feelings of low self-esteem, worthlessness, and constant anxiety about body image. My eating disorder told me every day that I wasn't worthy of anything good unless I was small. Mentally, anorexia has distorted my perception of food and created an unhealthy relationship with eating; it makes you look at food in a mathematical way instead of a healthy way. It is important to recognize that anorexia does not only impact me – it also affects my loved ones, including my family. Witnessing their daughter struggle with anorexia can be incredibly distressing and overwhelming. My family has experienced feelings of helplessness, fear, and constant worry for my well-being. They have given me immense time, mental health resources, and emotional support to help me in my recovery journey, which was not easy at all. To this day, I am still trying to unlearn my "thin" mentality and trying to be emotionally well with my weight gain; my mother tells me that I am more than that number on the scale. I am applying for this scholarship because I believe that education is a great tool for overcoming adversity. By working hard to reach my educational and career goals, I aspire to break free from the shackles of anorexia and contribute positively to society. This scholarship would not only relieve the financial burden on my family but also serve as a testament to the resilience and determination that can arise from battling anorexia.

My horrifying experience with anorexia had a profound effect on my relationships; it affected my bonds with my family, friends, and my romantic partner. The intense focus on my body image, food, and how I was perceived opened a door to social isolation. Having anorexia made me withdraw from social gatherings centered around meals, for example, thanksgiving is usually my favorite holiday and my family takes the holiday seriously. I cried in the bathroom because I ate a full plate of healthy and nutritional foods. That moment made my mother pull me to the side after dinner to express her concern. My healthy weight was 130 lbs...I lost weight in two months, and my anorexia weight was 118. Yes, sometimes I miss the control I had, but I don't miss the irritability and mood swings; it made it challenging for those who tried to provide support. My friends and family struggled to understand the severity of the disorder, leading to constant breakdowns and angry communication. My anorexia gave me a sense of guilt and shame in my romantic relationships; it made me feel burdensome or unworthy of love and support unless I was thin. I am still, to this day, trying to unlearn the "I am worthy until I a thin" mentality. The academic atmosphere is NOT immune to the impact of anorexia. My concentration and thinking ability were in the GUTTER due to the constant skipping of meals, and consuming nothing but Diet Coke, energy drinks, and black coffee; it all led to academic decline. I found it severely difficult to focus on my studies; the relentless focus of weight loss became a preoccupation, diverting all my attention away from my educational responsibilities. My college life was challenging; again, my anorexia heightened my self-consciousness and anxiety, so presentations were a BIG no-no for me. Having an eating disorder made it difficult to engage in any out-of-the-classroom activities, so basically I stayed in my dorm room, watching "What I Eat in Day" or "mukbang" videos, wishing I could eat my usual 10-piece chicken nugget meal from McDonald's. In conclusion, anorexia nervosa is a heartbreaking disorder that extends its influence far beyond the physical realm, infiltrating relationships, academic pursuits, and personal beliefs. The impact on relationships is marked by isolation, hindered communication, and emotional strain. In the academic area, anorexia manifests as diminished cognitive function, harming your educational progress and social development. The disorder also shapes a person's beliefs, creating a distorted self-view and perpetuating harmful beauty standards. I dream of having a family someday, hopefully, I get to have daughters; I would tell them they are beautiful every single day if I have to avoid them harming themselves to conform to nearly impossible and unrealistic beauty standards.
