I have always been drawn to children. Whether I’m babysitting, working as a camp counselor, or simply out in public, kids seem to gravitate toward me. My friends and family jokingly call me a “child magnet,” but to me, it feels like a calling. This natural connection with children is what led me to pursue a career as a kindergarten teacher. But one particular experience reminded me exactly why this path matters, and how even a small act of kindness and patience can leave a lasting impression on a child. A few summers ago, I worked as a camp counselor for a local day camp. One camper, a five-year-old boy named Liam, he was quiet, easily overwhelmed, and often kept to himself during group activities. While the other children ran to the playground, Liam lingered in the background, clutching his stuffed dinosaur and avoiding eye contact. I could tell he was struggling, and something about his quiet presence reminded me of myself as a child, nervous, unsure, and in need of someone to simply see me. I started by sitting with Liam during lunch and gently encouraging him to join games at his own pace. I learned that loud noises scared him and that he loved dinosaurs and drawing. So, I incorporated his interests into our activities. I brought dinosaur books for when the group was doing different activities, and helped him create a “dinosaur explorer” scavenger hunt. Slowly but surely, Liam began to come out of his shell. He started talking more, smiling more, and even helping other kids with crafts. One day, after a group craft, he ran up to me, held out a drawing of a T. rex, and said, “This is you. You’re strong and help me be brave.” I was completely caught off guard, but also deeply moved. In that moment, I realized how much a little patience, understanding, and encouragement can change a child’s experience. For Liam, it wasn’t about becoming the loudest or the fastest kid at camp, it was about feeling safe enough to be himself. That summer with Liam reaffirmed everything I believe about teaching: that it’s not just about academics or routines. It’s about building confidence, creating a sense of safety, and helping each child find their voice. I want to be the kind of teacher who helps students feel seen, heard, and supported, just like my middle school teacher once did for me. School wasn’t always easy for me. I often struggled with my grades and felt like I was falling behind. But one teacher changed that by taking the time to teach me in a way I could understand and by believing in me when I didn’t believe in myself. That experience planted the seed for my desire to teach. My work with children since then, especially with Liam, has watered that seed and helped it grow into a clear, unwavering purpose. Now, as I juggle full-time school and three jobs to pay for my education, I carry those experiences with me. They give meaning to the long hours and keep me focused on the future I’m building, not just for myself, but for the students I will one day be teaching. My journey hasn’t been easy, but every challenge has only strengthened me. Liam may not remember everything about that summer, but I’ll never forget what he taught me: that even small moments can make a big impact. And that’s exactly the kind of impact I hope to make in my classroom, one child at a time.

Growing up in a hardworking, middle-class family, I learned the importance of perseverance and determination early on. My parents always emphasized the value of education, but financial constraints meant that pursuing college would be my responsibility. This reality shaped my work ethic and commitment to achieving my goals. I currently work three jobs while attending school full-time, balancing my responsibilities with my passion for education. This journey has not been easy, but it has taught me resilience, time management, and the power of perseverance. School was not always a place where I felt confident. I often struggled with my grades and felt like I was falling behind. However, one middle school teacher changed everything for me. She took the time to teach me in ways that made sense, supported me when I felt overwhelmed, and encouraged me even when I doubted myself. Her belief in me left a lasting impact, inspiring me to become a teacher who makes a similar difference in the lives of my students. I want to create a classroom where children feel safe, encouraged, and inspired to learn and grow. Just as my teacher helped me build confidence and develop a love for learning, I want to do the same for my students. My passion for teaching is also deeply rooted in my natural connection with children. Whether babysitting, working as a camp counselor, or simply interacting with kids in everyday life, I have always been drawn to their curiosity, energy, and unique perspectives. My friends and family jokingly call me a “child magnet” because of how naturally kids gravitate toward me. This connection has solidified my belief that teaching is not just my career path but my calling. One of the biggest challenges I have faced is balancing my education with financial responsibilities. Working multiple jobs while attending school full-time requires sacrifices, but I view these challenges as stepping stones toward my dream. Each long shift, late night, and early morning brings me closer to becoming a teacher who can inspire and support her students. Overcoming these challenges has strengthened my determination and reinforced my belief in the power of perseverance. After graduating, I plan to become a kindergarten teacher, where I can foster a love for learning in young children. My goal is to create a supportive, engaging classroom where students feel encouraged to explore, ask questions, and believe in their abilities. I want to be more than just an educator, I want to be a mentor, an advocate, and a source of encouragement, just as my middle school teacher was for me. Pursuing higher education in the United States is the key to making this dream a reality, and I am eager to continue working toward a future where I can positively impact the lives of my students.

From a young age, I knew I wanted to become a kindergarten teacher. My passion for working with children has grown stronger over time, fueled by personal experiences and a deep desire to make a difference in students’ lives. School was not always easy for me, I often struggled with my grades and felt like I was falling behind. However, one middle school teacher completely changed how I viewed learning and myself. She took the time to teach me in ways that made sense, supported me when I felt overwhelmed, and encouraged me to keep going, even when I doubted myself. Her belief in me left a lasting impact, inspiring me to pursue a career where I can provide the same kind of encouragement and guidance for my future students. Beyond academics, my connection with children truly fuels my motivation. Whether babysitting, working as a camp counselor, or simply being out in public, kids naturally gravitate toward me. My friends and family even call me a “child magnet” because I have a way of making kids feel comfortable and excited to engage. I love their curiosity, energy, and unique way of seeing the world. This connection has solidified my belief that teaching is not just a career path but my true calling. If I could do anything with my life, I would create a classroom where children feel safe, encouraged, and inspired to learn and grow. I want to be the teacher who helps them build confidence, teaches them to believe in their abilities, and shows them that challenges can be overcome. My goal is to foster both academic success and personal growth, ensuring that my students gain the tools they need to thrive in school and life. While my primary passion lies in teaching, I also recognize the importance of STEM, especially in early childhood education. The way young children engage with STEM concepts, even in simple ways like building with blocks, exploring nature, or experimenting with cause and effect, excites me. I believe integrating STEM into the classroom from an early age helps foster problem-solving skills, creativity, and curiosity. Even though my career path is not directly in information technology, I see how technology plays a crucial role in education. The modern classroom relies on digital tools to enhance learning, making information more accessible and engaging for students. If I were to work in IT, I would want to develop innovative educational resources, such as interactive learning platforms or apps that support individualized instruction. These tools could help teachers meet students where they are, adapting lessons to different learning styles and needs. Additionally, technology has the power to bridge learning gaps and provide equal opportunities for students of all backgrounds. Whether through adaptive learning software or virtual tutoring programs, IT can make education more inclusive and effective. If I were in the field, I would focus on creating tools that help teachers reach students in new and meaningful ways, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to succeed. Despite my passion and motivation, my journey to becoming a teacher has not been without challenges. One of the biggest obstacles I have faced is balancing my education with financial responsibilities. Coming from a hardworking, middle-class family, I knew early on that paying for college would be my responsibility. To support myself, I currently work three jobs while attending school full-time. It hasn’t been easy, but this experience has taught me resilience, time management, and the value of perseverance. There have been moments when exhaustion made me question if I could keep going, but I always remind myself why I’m doing this, to become a teacher and make a difference in children’s lives. I’ve learned to stay organized, prioritize tasks, and seek support when needed. Whether it’s planning my schedule weeks or finding small moments for self-care, I’ve developed strategies to manage my workload while staying focused on my goals. Despite the challenges, I wouldn’t change my journey. Working through these obstacles has made me stronger and more determined. Every long shift and late-night study session is worth it because it brings me closer to achieving my dream. This experience has not only shaped who I am but also reinforced my belief that hard work and dedication can overcome any challenge. Ultimately, I chose teaching because I want to be a source of support, encouragement, and inspiration for my students, just as my middle school teacher was for me. I want to help children build strong foundations for their futures while fostering a love for learning that will last a lifetime. My journey has not been easy, but it has given me the drive and dedication to achieve my dreams, and I can’t wait to bring that same determination and passion into my future classroom.

Professor Harold Bloom once said, "I have learned that the purpose of teaching is to bring the student to his or her sense of his or her own presence." To me, this means that teaching is not just about imparting knowledge but about helping students discover their own identities, strengths, and abilities. As a future special education teacher, my mission is to guide my students toward recognizing their own worth, potential, and independence. This journey requires patience, creativity, and unwavering belief in their abilities. My passion for teaching, particularly in special education, stems from my own experiences as a student. School was not always easy for me; I often struggled with my grades and felt like I was falling behind. However, one middle school teacher changed the way I viewed learning and myself. She took the time to understand my challenges, adapted her teaching methods to fit my needs, and supported me through my struggles. Her belief in me left a lasting impact, inspiring me to pursue a career where I could make a similar difference in the lives of my students, especially those who face unique learning challenges. My connection with children has always been natural and deeply fulfilling. Whether working as a camp counselor, babysitting, or simply interacting with children in everyday life, I find that they are drawn to me. My family and friends often call me a “child magnet” because I create an environment where kids feel safe, valued, and encouraged. In special education, this ability is essential. Many students with disabilities face frustration, self-doubt, and societal barriers that make them feel unseen or unheard. My goal as their teacher is to empower them to embrace their strengths and see themselves as capable learners. In my classroom, I will foster an inclusive and supportive environment where every student can experience a sense of their own presence. This means using individualized teaching strategies, incorporating hands-on learning experiences, and celebrating small victories to build confidence. I will prioritize patience, adaptability, and creativity to ensure that each child receives the support they need to succeed academically and personally. My approach will not only focus on developing academic skills but also on teaching self-advocacy, independence, and social-emotional growth. Achieving this dream requires hard work and dedication. Coming from a hardworking, middle-class family, I knew early on that pursuing my passion meant taking responsibility for my own education. Since my family could not afford to pay for college, I have worked three jobs while attending school full-time. This experience has taught me resilience, time management, and perseverance, qualities that will serve me well as a special education teacher. Every challenge I overcome brings me closer to my goal of making a meaningful impact on my future students. A Special Education Fairy Tale Once upon a time, in a kingdom where learning was a grand adventure, there was a young heroine named Lily. Lily had always dreamed of becoming a teacher, but not just any teacher, one who could help every child find their own special magic. In the kingdom, there were children whose voices were often unheard, whose paths were filled with obstacles, and whose talents were hidden beneath layers of self-doubt. Determined to help, Lily set out on a quest to find the Key of Understanding, the Shield of Patience, and the Crown of Encouragement. Along the way, she met three wise guides: a storyteller who taught her the power of adapting lessons to every learner, a healer who showed her how to support both minds and hearts, and a mirror that reflected the strengths of every child. When Lily returned to the kingdom, she used her newfound wisdom to transform her classroom into a place of magic. She helped each child see their own strengths, celebrated every achievement, big or small, and created a space where all could thrive. The students no longer felt invisible; they discovered their own presence, their own voices, and their own unique magic. And so, Lily’s dream came true, not because she had changed the students, but because she had helped them see the greatness that was already within them. My journey as a teacher mirrors Lily’s story. My mission is to guide my students toward recognizing their own presence, potential, and worth. I will be their advocate, their support, and their biggest cheerleader. Just as my middle school teacher changed my life, I hope to change the lives of my students, empowering them to embrace who they are and all they can become.
    Women in STEM Scholarship
From an early age, I have been drawn to education, and my passion for teaching has only grown stronger over time. While my journey initially led me to pursue elementary education, I have since recognized the immense impact that STEM education has on shaping young minds. As a woman in STEM, I want to bridge the gap between early education and STEM learning, ensuring that young students, especially young girls, develop confidence and excitement in these fields from the very beginning of their academic journey. School was not always easy for me. I often struggled with my grades and felt like I was falling behind. However, one middle school teacher completely changed the way I viewed learning and myself. She took the time to teach me in ways that made sense, supported me when I felt overwhelmed, and encouraged me to keep going, even when I doubted myself. Her belief in me left a lasting impact, and she inspired me to pursue a career where I can make a similar difference in the lives of my students. I want to bring that same support to STEM education, helping young learners develop confidence in subjects that are often viewed as intimidating. My connection with children is another driving force behind my career choice. Whether I am babysitting, working as a camp counselor, or engaging with kids in public, I have always had a natural ability to make them feel comfortable and excited to learn. My friends and family call me a “child magnet” because of the way children gravitate toward me. I want to use this connection to make STEM subjects more accessible and engaging for young students. By integrating hands-on learning, creativity, and real-world applications into my teaching, I hope to inspire curiosity and problem-solving skills in my students. As a woman entering a STEM-related field, I recognize the importance of representation. Many young girls grow up believing that STEM is too difficult or that it is not meant for them. I want to change that narrative by being a role model who encourages girls to explore science, technology, engineering, and math with confidence. By fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment, I aim to instill in my students, especially young girls, the belief that they are just as capable and intelligent as anyone else in STEM. Achieving this goal requires resilience and dedication. Coming from a hardworking, middle-class family, I knew early on that pursuing my dream would mean taking responsibility for my own education. My family could not afford to pay for college, so I made a plan to support myself. Today, I work three jobs while attending school full-time. This experience has taught me perseverance, time management, and the value of hard work. Every long shift and late night spent studying brings me one step closer to my goal of making a lasting impact in education and STEM. Ultimately, I have chosen to pursue STEM education because I want to be a source of support, encouragement, and inspiration for my students, just as my middle school teacher was for me. I want to help children build strong foundations in STEM, fostering a love for problem-solving and discovery that will serve them throughout their lives. My journey has not been easy, but it has given me the determination to achieve my dreams. As a future educator and advocate for STEM, I am excited to help shape the next generation of innovators, thinkers, and leaders.
CH2M HILL Alumni Association Legacy Gift Fund Scholarship
From a young age, I have been passionate about education, particularly in helping young children develop foundational skills that will set them up for success. My interest in a STEM-related field of study stems from my desire to teach early childhood education with a strong emphasis on math and science. I believe that fostering curiosity and confidence in these subjects at a young age is essential, as it helps students develop problem-solving skills and a love for learning that will carry them through their academic journeys. My own experience as a student has shaped my approach to teaching. School was not always easy for me; I often struggled with certain subjects and felt like I was falling behind. However, one middle school teacher completely changed my perspective. She took the time to teach me in ways that made sense, supported me when I felt overwhelmed, and encouraged me to persevere even when I doubted myself. Her belief in me left a lasting impact, and she inspired me to pursue a career where I can make a similar difference in the lives of my students, particularly in STEM subjects, where many children face challenges and self-doubt. Working with children has always been a natural fit for me. Whether through babysitting, working as a camp counselor, or assisting in classrooms, I have seen firsthand how early exposure to STEM concepts can spark excitement and confidence. I want to create a classroom where students feel safe to explore, ask questions, and develop problem-solving skills that will benefit them throughout their education. My goal is to make STEM learning accessible and engaging, ensuring that all students, regardless of their background or learning style, feel empowered to succeed. Beyond my career aspirations, I am committed to serving my community. I plan to use my role as an educator to promote STEM education outside the classroom as well, whether through after-school programs, tutoring, or community outreach initiatives that encourage young learners to see the real-world applications of math and science. By making STEM education more inclusive and engaging, I hope to inspire the next generation of thinkers, innovators, and problem-solvers. Pursuing this goal has not been easy, but I am determined to make it happen. Coming from a hardworking, middle-class family, I knew early on that financing my education would be my responsibility. I currently work three jobs while attending school full-time, a challenge that has taught me resilience, time management, and perseverance. Despite the long hours and demanding schedule, every step I take brings me closer to my dream of becoming a teacher who makes a lasting impact on her students and community. By dedicating my career to STEM education in early childhood, I hope to break down barriers and foster a love for learning that lasts a lifetime. I want my students to see math and science not as obstacles, but as opportunities to explore and create. Through my hard work, dedication, and passion for teaching, I am excited to shape the future of education and inspire young minds to reach their full potential.

Anxiety has been a significant part of my life, often making school feel overwhelming. There were times when self-doubt and stress made me question my abilities, and I struggled to keep up with my coursework. Despite these challenges, I refused to let anxiety define me. She recognized my struggles and took the time to teach me in ways that made sense to me. She supported me when I felt overwhelmed and encouraged me to keep going, even when I doubted myself. Her belief in me left a lasting impact, and she inspired me to pursue a career where I can make a similar difference in the lives of my students. I want to be the teacher who helps children feel capable and valued, no matter the challenges they face. My desire to become a teacher is also deeply rooted in my connection with children. Whether I am babysitting, working as a camp counselor, or simply out in public, kids naturally gravitate toward me. From a young age, I felt called to work with children, and as I have grown, my faith has strengthened that calling. Becoming a kindergarten teacher is not just a career choice for me; it is a purpose that I believe God has placed on my heart. School was not always easy for me. I often struggled with my grades and felt as though I was falling behind. However, during middle school, one teacher changed my entire perspective on learning and on myself. She took the time to teach me in ways that made sense, supported me when I felt overwhelmed, and encouraged me to keep going, even when I doubted myself. Her belief in me left a lasting impact, and I now see how God worked through her to show me my own potential. That experience has inspired me to become a teacher who uplifts and supports her students in the same way. My faith has also given me a deep connection with children. Whether I am babysitting, working as a camp counselor, or simply interacting with kids in everyday life, I feel a strong sense of purpose in the way I engage with them. My family and friends often refer to me as a “child magnet,” and I believe this is part of the path God has set for me. Children’s curiosity, energy, and pure joy remind me of the beauty in life, and I want to be a positive influence in their early years of learning and growth. As I pursue my goal of becoming a teacher, my faith has been my source of strength and perseverance. Coming from a hardworking, middle-class family, I knew that achieving my dreams would require sacrifice and dedication. My family could not afford to pay for my college education, so I took it upon myself to make it happen. Today, I work three jobs while attending school full-time. At times, the workload feels overwhelming, but my faith reassures me that God has a plan for me. Every challenge I face is an opportunity to grow, and I trust that He will provide me with the strength I need to keep moving forward. Faith will continue to play a vital role in my career as a teacher. I want to create a classroom where children feel safe, valued, and encouraged, just as God’s love provides a safe haven for me. I believe that faith teaches patience, kindness, and empathy, qualities that are essential for being an effective teacher. Through the ups and downs of my career, I know I can lean on my faith to guide me in making decisions that are best for my students. Ultimately, my faith has shaped who I am and has given me the strength to pursue my dreams. It has taught me resilience, compassion, and the importance of serving others. As a teacher, I hope to reflect these values in my classroom, creating an environment where children can flourish academically and personally. My journey has not been easy, but I trust that every step has been part of God’s plan, and I am excited to see where He leads me next.

    Future Leaders Scholarship
Throughout my academic and professional journey, I have demonstrated leadership through my dedication to education and my ability to inspire and support those around me. One of the most impactful experiences that tested my leadership skills was my role as a camp counselor at Leif Erickson. Over the past four years, I have taken on increasing responsibility, guiding young campers, creating engaging activities, and fostering an inclusive environment where every child feels valued. This experience not only strengthened my leadership abilities but also solidified my passion for teaching. One of the greatest challenges I faced as a camp counselor was working with children who struggled with confidence and social interaction. Many campers arrived feeling anxious, unsure of themselves, or hesitant to participate. As a leader, I knew it was my responsibility to create a supportive space where they could thrive. I used strategies such as positive reinforcement, individualized encouragement, and creative problem-solving to help them engage. For example, when a camper was too nervous to join a group activity, I would partner with them one-on-one until they felt comfortable enough to participate independently. By fostering a sense of belonging and encouragement, I watched these children grow more confident throughout the summer. In addition to my leadership at camp, I have also demonstrated perseverance and resilience in my academic journey. Balancing full-time coursework with three jobs requires exceptional time management and determination. Despite the challenges, I have remained committed to my goal of becoming an elementary teacher. My ability to stay organized, prioritize responsibilities, and remain focused under pressure has allowed me to excel both academically and professionally. The impact of my leadership extends beyond just one summer or one classroom. Through my dedication to helping children build confidence and a love for learning, I am preparing myself to make a lasting difference in my future career as a teacher. My experiences have taught me the importance of patience, adaptability, and fostering meaningful connections with students. I plan to apply these skills by creating a classroom environment where every child feels seen, heard, and supported. Ultimately, leadership is not just about guiding others, it is about inspiring growth and resilience. My journey has shaped me into a leader who is passionate about education, and I am eager to continue using my skills to positively impact the lives of my future students. Just as my middle school teacher once believed in me, I will strive to be that same source of encouragement and inspiration for the next generation.

My friends and family call me a “child magnet” because I have a natural ability to make kids feel comfortable and engaged. This connection has solidified my belief that teaching is not just a career path for me, it is my calling. Beyond academics, I want to create a classroom where children feel safe, encouraged, and inspired to learn and grow. Many students, like myself, come from backgrounds where education can feel like an uphill battle. I want to be the teacher who helps them develop confidence, teaches them to believe in their abilities, and shows them that challenges can be overcome. By focusing on both academic success and personal growth, I aim to give my students the tools they need to thrive in school and in life. Attending college is incredibly important to me because it is the next step in turning my passion into a profession. My journey has required resilience, time management, and sacrifice, but every late night, early morning, and long shift is worth it. As a first-generation student, I am not just working toward my own success, I am setting an example for my family and proving that higher education is possible, no matter the obstacles. Becoming a teacher is not just my dream; it is my mission to give back and support future generations of students who, like me, need someone to believe in them. Ultimately, I chose teaching because I want to be a source of support, encouragement, and inspiration for my students, just as my middle school teacher was for me. My background has taught me the value of perseverance, and I am committed to using my experiences to uplift and empower others. College is the stepping stone that will allow me to achieve this goal, and I am determined to make the most of every opportunity it provides.

I have always wanted to become a kindergarten teacher. From a young age, I felt drawn to working with children, and as I grew older, that passion only deepened. However, my journey toward teaching was shaped not just by my love for children, but by my own struggles as a student. School wasn’t always easy for me. I often struggled with my grades and felt like I was falling behind. There were times when I doubted my own abilities and felt frustrated with learning. But everything changed when I met my middle school teacher, who completely transformed my view of education and myself. She didn’t just teach, she understood. She took the time to explain things in a way that made sense to me, encouraged me when I felt overwhelmed, and never let me give up on myself. She saw potential in me that I couldn’t see at the time, and her belief in me made all the difference. Because of her, I started to believe in my own ability to succeed. That experience is one of the main reasons I want to be a teacher. I want to be the kind of educator who makes students feel capable, supported, and inspired—just like she did for me. Beyond my personal experiences in school, I have always had a natural connection with children. Whether I’m babysitting, working as a camp counselor, or simply interacting with kids in public, they seem to gravitate toward me. Teaching gives me the opportunity to guide and nurture that curiosity while helping children develop confidence in their abilities. Pursuing my dream of becoming a teacher hasn’t been easy. In high school, I knew I had to take my education seriously, so I worked hard to improve my grades and develop strong study habits. I also had to think about the financial challenges of college. Coming from a hardworking, middle-class family, I knew that paying for my education would be a challenge. Instead of letting that discourage me, I made a plan. Currently, I work three jobs throughout the year while attending school full-time. Balancing work and school is challenging, and it requires sacrificing free time, social activities, and even sleep. There are nights when I stay up studying after long shifts, and weekends when I have to choose work over relaxation. But every sacrifice I make is for my future. I know that every hour spent working and studying is bringing me closer to my goal of becoming a teacher. For me, teaching isn’t just a career, it’s a calling. I want to be the teacher who encourages students to believe in themselves, who helps them overcome their struggles, and who creates a classroom where they feel safe, valued, and excited to learn. When I imagine my future classroom, I see a space filled with curiosity, encouragement, and growth. I see myself cheering on my students, reminding them that they are capable of achieving great things, just like my middle school teacher did for me. Her impact on my life is something I will always carry with me, and I hope that one day, I can be that life-changing teacher for someone else.

The impact I want to make as a teacher goes beyond academics. I want to create a classroom where children feel safe, encouraged, and inspired to learn and grow. I want to be the teacher who helps them develop confidence, teaches them to believe in their abilities, and shows them that challenges can be overcome. By focusing on both academic success and personal growth, I aim to give my students the tools they need to thrive in school and in life. Achieving this professional passion requires hard work and determination. Coming from a hardworking, middle-class family, I knew early on that pursuing my dream would mean taking responsibility for my own education. My family could not afford to pay for college, so I made a plan to support myself. Today, I work three jobs while attending school full-time. This has taught me resilience, time management, and the value of perseverance. Every late night, early morning, and long shift is worth it because it brings me one step closer to my goal of becoming a teacher.

I believe education is a transformative journey that nurtures intellectual, emotional, and social growth. Its purpose is not only to teach academic content but also to foster critical thinking, empathy, and lifelong curiosity. Education equips students to navigate the complexities of the modern world and make meaningful contributions to society. Growing up in a hardworking, middle-class family, I value resilience and perseverance, and I strive to create a supportive classroom that respects and celebrates diversity. Recognizing the unique backgrounds of my students, I aim to tailor my teaching to their strengths and needs, ensuring everyone feels valued and capable. I have seen firsthand how student-centered, interactive learning approaches positively impact engagement and understanding. Teachers who integrated hands-on activities, collaborative projects, and inquiry-based learning created environments where I felt encouraged to take ownership of my education. In my classroom, I will use these strategies to build a culturally and linguistically responsive environment. For instance, I will provide opportunities for students to explore topics that connect to their backgrounds and interests, incorporate diverse perspectives into lessons, and offer various ways for students to demonstrate their knowledge. Activities like group discussions, project-based learning, and formative assessments will allow me to support each student’s individual learning journey while fostering collaboration and mutual respect. My ultimate goal is to help students grow into confident, compassionate, and capable individuals. Academically, I want to instill a love for learning by creating engaging, relevant, and challenging lessons that encourage curiosity and critical thinking. Socially, I aim to help students develop empathy, resilience, and effective communication skills. To achieve these goals, I will build a safe, inclusive classroom culture where students feel respected and empowered. I will integrate social-emotional learning into my curriculum, providing opportunities for students to set goals, reflect on their progress, and celebrate their achievements. By emphasizing both personal and academic growth, I hope to inspire my students to believe in their abilities and reach their full potential. I am deeply committed to continuously improving as an educator to meet the diverse needs of my students. I will engage in ongoing professional development, including attending workshops, collaborating with colleagues, and staying informed about the latest research and best practices in education. I will also reflect on my teaching practices and seek feedback from students and peers to identify areas for improvement. By embracing a growth mindset, I can adapt my methods to better serve my students and create a dynamic, responsive learning environment. My goal is to remain flexible and innovative, ensuring that I provide meaningful and impactful education throughout my career.

I’ve always wanted to become a kindergarten teacher, ever since I was little. Teaching has always felt like the perfect path for me. School wasn’t always easy for me, I struggled with my grades and often felt like I was falling behind. However, one teacher in middle school completely changed the way I viewed learning and myself. She took the time to teach me in a way that made sense, supported me when I felt overwhelmed, and encouraged me to keep trying, even when things got tough. She believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself, and her impact is something I’ll carry forever. She’s one of the main reasons I want to be a teacher. I want to be the kind of teacher who inspires students, helps them build confidence, and makes a difference in their lives. I’ve always felt a strong connection with children. Whether I’m babysitting, working as a camp counselor, or just out in public, kids seem naturally drawn to me. My friends and family even call me a “child magnet” because kids always find their way to me. I think it’s because I genuinely enjoy spending time with them. I love their curiosity, energy, and the way they see the world. Being around children has always felt natural to me, and it’s one of the many reasons I know teaching is the right career for me. By the time I reached high school, I knew I needed to work hard to make my dream of becoming a kindergarten teacher a reality. I realized that I couldn’t afford to slack off academically, so I focused on improving my grades and building good study habits. I also began to think about the financial challenges of going to college. Coming from a hardworking, middle-class family, I knew my family wouldn’t be able to cover the cost of my education. Instead of letting that discourage me, I made a plan. Currently, I work three jobs over the course of the year while attending school full-time. It’s not easy to balance work and school, but it’s taught me important lessons about perseverance, time management, and responsibility. I’m proud of the work I put in because I know it’s bringing me closer to my goal. Every hour I spend working, every late night studying, and every sacrifice I make is for my future. Becoming a teacher isn’t just a career goal for me, it’s a calling. I want to be someone who helps children grow academically and personally, someone who inspires them the way my middle school teacher inspired me. I want to show kids that they are capable of achieving great things, even if they face challenges along the way. When I imagine my future classroom, I see a space where kids feel safe, encouraged, and excited to learn. I see myself being the teacher who cheers them on, teaches them to believe in themselves, and helps them build a strong foundation for the rest of their lives.
