My name is Keniah Blaze, and I am a 16-year-old senior who has decided to graduate a year early. I earned my ninth-grade credits in eighth grade, which gave me this chance. As the oldest child in my family, and specifically the oldest daughter, I have always felt a sense of responsibility. This has played a big role in my decision to pursue a career in children and adolescence psychology.
Growing up, I had to take on many responsibilities at a young age. I often found myself in situations where I had feelings that I did not know how to express. Many young people go through the same thing, and they have no outlet for their emotions. I want to be there for them. I want to make an impact on the younger generation by being someone they can talk to and trust.
I have always been interested in understanding how the mind works, especially in children and teenagers. This is why I have chosen to major in Psychology. I believe that by studying psychology, I can learn the skills needed to help young people navigate their emotions and experiences. My goal is to provide a safe space for them to express themselves and find healthy ways to cope with their feelings.
With a high school GPA of 3.9, I have shown that I am dedicated to my studies. I plan to continue this dedication in college, where I hope to attend either Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University, Texas Southern University, or Spelman College. These schools offer strong psychology programs that will help me achieve my goal of becoming a child and adolescence psychologist.
As a Black woman, I understand the unique challenges that come with this identity. I want to use my experiences to help others who may be going through similar struggles. Representation matters, and I hope to be a role model for young Black girls who may feel unseen or unheard.
I am passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people. I believe that with the right support and guidance, they can overcome any obstacle. By pursuing a career in psychology, I hope to provide that support and make a positive impact on their lives.
In conclusion, my experiences as the oldest child and my passion for psychology have driven me to pursue a career in children and adolescence psychology. I am committed to helping young people find their voice and navigate their emotions. With the help of the Anthony B. Davis Scholarship , I can take the next step towards achieving my goal and making a difference in the lives of the younger generation.
