As a current senior, I get asked a question that everyone has heard before “ what do you want to be when you grow up”. Some people will say that they want to do
something like computer programming, therapist, doctor, manager, and all sorts of important and impactful roles in society. For a very long time, I was unsure of what I
wanted to do as a career in the future, especially when the future was changing and developing so quickly. There was one thing I was sure about, that is a career
working with my hands. I had always liked working with my hands. My favorite toys growing up were Legos. Just the ability to build and destroy my Lego sets, just to fix
the structures again. People thought that it would be good if I worked in something like construction or engineering, but I never really saw an interest, since it was very physically demanding and it was majority outside work.
Towards the end of junior year of high school, I really started to consider and look for options on what I would want to do. I wanted to look for something that is
hands on, constantly moving, something that will always be needed everywhere, and that technology cannot replace. Then I saw a career that matched my interests,
doing HVAC. HVAC is a job that is very hands-on, needing to work with various tools and environments to get the job done. Over time, I started to shift my interest
toward HVAC , doing some research on it. I applied to Boces my senior year for HVAC, to see if HVAC could be something that I could do and to learn the basics
about it.
When I got into Boces, I was thrown into the hvac course where I was able to learn the baseline skills for HVAC, like working with furnace, boilers, AC units, copper, black pipe, thermostats and more. At the start, I was completely
disoriented, throwing so much new information at me, I didn't know where to start. I began to do more research about HVAC in my spare time, to get back on track
with the class. Day by day, I was able to absorb new information more easily. Eventually, I was able to not only understand the new information, but also explain
it to other people who needed help. Learning about HVAC is something that I really love to do, being able to identify a problem, and come up with a solution to repair it.
As I continue learning through BOCES, I feel more confident in what I do, well enough to even teach other. Even my HVAC teachers have noted my ambition and
see and continue to challenge me to do the best I can. I can't wait to use what I learned and apply it to the field of HVAC.

If a boss was reviewing my performance, he/she would say that I am a very dedicated worker who wants to help others and who wants to do things correctly. I arrive to work on time. I am dressed and ready to work. I am eager to learn more as well as to help my fellow coworkers out. I would like work for a trade union so I can have steady or or perhaps work in an apartment building so I can use my skills everyday. I really want to teach others as this is an important career.

When I started my first job, I was completely overwhelmed as I was a camp counselor. There were many kids, parents, and counselors. I was so overwhelmed, I had to get away so I went to the bathroom to collect myself. I eventually observed others and asked questions and I worked with my coworkers to get a better handle of my job.

When I was put into a robotics class, I was super ecstatic about it. In the robotics class, we would build, code, and test robots to compete in a competition with other schools. I loved being able to be part of a team and helping build the robot, using various power tools and machines. Once the robot was built, it was accidentally knocked over and fell apart, needing repairs and replacement parts. I helped build the robot back together, figuring out what part went where, and replacing damaged parts. This all made me realize my interest in repairing and installing stuff. Even though I had a ton of fun in robotics class, coding the robot was something that I had no interest in.

I am very excited as I can extend my two years into other degrees and programs that will make me even more valuable. I’m excited about starting my career with my newfound knowledge in education.

Towards the end of junior year of high school, I really started to consider and look for options on what I would want to do. I wanted to look for something that is hands on, constantly moving, something that will always be needed everywhere, and that technology cannot replace. Then I saw a career that matched my interests, being a plumber and hvac technician. HVAC and plumbing are jobs that are very hands-on, needing to work with various tools and environments to get the job done. Over time, I started to shift my interest toward HVAC and plumbing, doing some research on it. I applied to Boces my senior year for HVAC, to see if HVAC could be something that I could do and to learn the basics about it.
When I got into Boces, I was thrown into the hvac course where I was able to learn the baseline skill of HVAC, like wiring, working with copper, identifying parts of a furnace and more. At the start, I was completely disoriented, throwing so much new information at me, I didn't know where to start. I began to do more research about HVAC in my spare time, to get back on track with the class. Day by day, I was able to absorb new information more easily. Eventually, I was able to not only understand the new information, but also explain it to other people who needed help. Learning about HVAC is something that I really love to do, being able to identify a problem, and come up with a solution to repair it. I can't wait to use what I learned and apply it to the field of HVAC and plumbing.

As a current senior, I get asked a question that everyone has heard before “ what do you want to be when you grow up”. Some people will say that they want to do something like computer programming, therapist, doctor, manager, and all sorts of important and impactful roles in society. For a very long time, I was unsure of what I wanted to do as a career in the future, especially when the future was changing and developing so quickly. There was one thing I was sure about, that is a career working with my hands. I had always liked working with my hands. My favorite toys growing up were Legos. Just the ability to build and destroy my Lego sets, just to fix the structures again. People thought that it would be good if I worked in something like construction or engineering, but I never really saw an interest, since it was very physically demanding, the majority worked outside. It wasn't until my sophomore year of highschool that I found something that had gained an interest, robotics.
When I was put into a robotics class, I was super ecstatic about it. In the robotics class, we would build, code, and test robots to compete in a competition with other schools. I loved being able to be part of a team and helping build the robot, using various power tools and machines.
