For a long time people would view single parents as the downfall to their children in the future. In some cases this could be true but in all my friends and family that are single parents I can tell you different. They are the most hard working, child oriented and determined people I know. I am a single parent of three beautiful children. Being a single parent and raising three children who are not in school yet has been quite a journey. Having children in our economy has put me into the mindset of furthering my education to provide a better life for my children. I want my children to see a happy mom working on herself to provide for her children. My children have always been a top priority in my life and doing so I have lost a little bit of myself, and perusing my dream of cosmetology will help me find myself again. In 2017 I became a mother to my first, Shyloh, after 3 months she had developed some medical complications and having to take time off work my job decided to let me go. The same happened after I had my second, Onyx she had some breathing issues and ended up in the hospital because her lung complications. The past four years I have been working in child care trying to afford daycare and all of our expenses. This means I have been working with my children and being with them 24 hours. Watching my children grow and has made me realize that settling is not always the best choice, mentally and physically. I want my children to see their mom who worked hard to provide for them and also work hard to live her dream. My kids have helped me make the decision to further my education and as much as little kids are always excited they show me the same excitement to be going back to school. My plan after cosmetology school to help impact my community is to provide a place where all religion, race, gender, and sexual orientation has a place where they feel that they belong and where they can experience peace when getting any and all aspects of beauty services done. Far too many time I see people scared to go into a salon out of fear of judgement. I want to create a place where all feel welcome and want to come back. I want to open my own salon that has suites for independent work and work of all kind wether it be working on natural hair or skin care, nails and massage. I want for my co workers to feel they can bring their strengths to their work. I know once I graduate I will make a difference not only in mine and my children’s life, I will make a difference in my communities wellbeing.
