Growing up, I didn't play with the toys that most little girls would play with. Barbie dolls, makeup, fashion: none could hold my interest. Instead, I found myself creating. I would take circuits and K’nex pieces and engineer my own creations ranging from a mechanical clock to robots to Lego buildings. I constantly wanted something to challenge my thinking, to alter how I saw the world around me. As I got older, I began to think more about my future. I wanted to find a career that could embody my longstanding love of creation and innovation. This is when I solidified engineering.  My career area of interest is chemical engineering.   The field of engineering sparks my interest because there is always something new to do and be involved in. When I think of engineering, I think of solving real-world problems to not only better the world we live in but to also help evolve the world as it continues to grow and develop. Participating in projects that have a mission like these is something that I strive to do.  When it comes to the specific field of engineering, I chose chemical based on the principles and ideas that are portrayed within it. When I got to high school, I began taking chemistry classes at different levels. Here, I realized that the math and science behind the subject was something I enjoyed doing and learning. I looked more into chemical engineering when I was in my Principle of Engineering class and researched what exactly a chemical engineer does. I studied specific projects that I would potentially take part in if this was the route I chose. These projects all focused on the enhancement of technologies and resources to better develop the world. Specifically, handling energy conservation and oil/gas production while also focusing on the safety of citizens. These sparked my interest because they are all matters that are consistently going to grow and need new answers to. I want to do something that is never-ending and is always going to give me a challenge. As a result of these considerations, I have concluded that chemical engineering is the most suitable path for my career and future. After receiving my bachelor’s degree, I want to find a chemical engineering job in the oil and gas industry. While doing this I want to go back to school and work on receiving my master’s degree. With my master’s degree, I will have the potential to go further in my career and be able to become a project manager. While it may take many years before I am able to take a position that is on a higher level such as this one, it is still something I am willing to work hard for. This position is something I stive to work towards because I will be able to make more money while also doing something I enjoy at a higher level.
