Jae'Sean Tate BUILT Scholarship
Hello Jae'Sean,
My name is Kelsie Taylor, I'm 19 years old, and right now, I'm a junior undergraduate student attending the University of Memphis. Now, I might have caught you off-guard with my age and class status since they don't match up, right? You may be wondering how I got to the position where I am. When I was in high school, I took a lot of AP and Dual-Enrollment courses to earn college credits in hopes that when I was accepted into a University, I would be able to skip my freshman year and go straight into my sophomore year. However, as time has progressed, I have realized that I have accrued an insurmountable amount of student debt that I have to start paying off as early as 2023.
On top of this, I am balancing a job as an assistant manager at Chick-fil-A in this unpredictable Covid-19 pandemic. With a tough class load, a lifetime of paying off student debt for the unforeseeable future, and a food service industry job to balance, it is safe to say that I am struggling.
I came upon your story and have found myself to be very inspired by your grit and grind. No matter what the circumstances were or what road you took, you always were pursuing your ultimate dream of reaching the NBA. You have motivated me to keep going after my bachelor's degree even though there will be obstacles and lessons on the way. I believe, if I am blessed to receive this scholarship, I will be able to build myself, build my career, and build others around me.
Thank you!
