I was diagnosed with Diabetes while taking my physical exam for the nursing program. At first I was distraught, although I knew I was high risk due to family history and lifestyle, it still was a sock to me. After a while I decided I am right where I need to be to deal with this diagnosis and educate my parents and others. I can use the knowledge I retain from school to help those around me who are like me. Those who are minorities, who live an environment that might not always protect them or have limited access to healthy food. Those without insurance who can’t go to a nutritionist, pediatrist, or endocrinologist. When I reach my goal of nurse practitioner, I plan to open a free clinic so the less fortunate can have the education and treatment that they need to live a healthy life.

I was always told it’s who you know not what you know and all though I believe there is some truth in that statement I believe what you know matters just as much. My education continuously molds me into the person I aspire to be.
I am continuously learning, whether it’s from life experiences or academically. Academically, I am now able to understand politics due to the knowledge I retained from class. That knowledge helps me to teach others when political conversations happen.
I am a nursing student and it’s interesting that almost everything I am learning I can use with my family and their health and even my own health. I’m able to understand how everything works, the do’s and the dont’s, which i believe is very beneficial with healthy living.
Education has giving me a different aspect on life all together what I thought i knew had nothing on the knowledge I acquired over the years. I am overly excited to face the world with all that I have attained after college. Experience and education goes hand in hand.
Faith, Hope, & Nursing Scholarship
My faith and my education has gone hand in hand since I began my career journey. My faith is what keeps me going. So many trials and tribulations have came my way and if it wasn’t for me holding on to what I know was promised to me I am not sure where I would be. I prayed so many times just to make it through and every time i take two steps forward something occurs to push me ten stops back. Yet still I prevail. I am determined to be a nurse. I have a gift of service and i plan to walk in my purpose helping all that I cross paths with. I am in my first semester and my acceptance was a miracle, therefore my graduation will be one too. I’m not sure how I will be paying for this nursing program but I know for sure God will make a way. By 2023 i will be pinned Rn. Kelly.
