      Zedikiah Randolph Memorial Scholarship
I had to learn voraciously how to balance life’s many demands: working, pursuing education, volunteering, fulfilling familial responsibilities, tutoring, maintaining friendships, and fostering personal and social development. Mahatma Gandhi once said, "If I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning." My belief was strong, but my capacity had to be developed, and the journey to get here has been far from conventional. Coming from a low-income family, financial struggles presented an obstacle to my educational aspirations. Despite earning several admission opportunities and receiving scholastic recognitions, I had to pause my undergraduate journey between June 2022 and February 2023 due to the overwhelming financial burden. With three siblings also pursuing higher education, my family’s resources were stretched thin. The prospect of loans with accumulating interest weighed heavily on my decision-making, compelling me to find alternative ways to fund my education. During this challenging period, I channeled my energy into addressing these financial barriers. I worked, saved diligently, tutored students, and explored scholarships to secure funding for my return to school. My family’s unwavering support was a vital saver, reinforcing my determination to overcome these hurdles. Despite the pause in my academic progression, I remained intellectually engaged—revisiting past course materials, conducting tutoring sessions that transformed into opportunities for deeper learning, and exploring new topics to prepare myself for an even more successful academic journey. This journey of resilience aligns with the aspirations I have held since childhood. Years ago, while traveling to Orlando, Florida, I stood in awe at an airport, captivated by the sight of airplanes gracefully taking off and landing. The precision and ingenuity of these machines sparked an intense curiosity in me to understand how they work. This fascination became a passion for powered vehicles, propelling me toward a STEM education and a career in mechanical or aerospace engineering. My aspirations extend beyond personal achievement. I am deeply motivated by the desire to give back and make a meaningful impact. I envision establishing a research facility dedicated to nurturing future scholars, especially BIPOC who share my enthusiasm for science. This institution would provide the resources and inspiration for young minds to explore careers that drive technological innovation and societal advancement. Additionally, at my transfer institution of interest, Georgia Institute of Technology, only 3.06% of students in the School of Aerospace Engineering are Black or African American. I, represent that fraction. My interests continue to evolve into broader areas of scientific exploration, enabling me to contribute to communal development on multiple fronts. Whether in aerospace engineering or beyond, my constant goal is to merge innovation with purpose, creating solutions that empower individuals and uplift communities. This scholarship will alleviate the heavy burden of tuition and related expenses, allowing me to focus entirely on honing my skills and expanding my knowledge. Free from the constant concern of funding my education and having to work full-time obtaining this scholarship would ease my burdens, allowing me to concentrate entirely on my studies and allocate more time to academic excellence, internships, and the pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering." With this support, I can take the next steps toward realizing my dream of becoming an aerospace engineer, contributing to technological innovation, and fostering opportunities for others to succeed. My vision is to create a lasting legacy of progress, and this scholarship will be among the catalyst that propels me toward that goal.

I did not possess it in the beginning. By "it," I mean the capacity to balance life’s many demands: working, pursuing education, volunteering, fulfilling familial responsibilities, tutoring, maintaining friendships, and fostering personal and social development. I am benevolent, ambitious, reserved, and God-fearing. I know I am not a perfect person, but I try to bring out the best in myself daily. I am a scholar whose dream is to become successful in my career path of becoming a mechanical engineer. Who am I? I am Kehinde Adesegun. I come from a wonderful family of six; I have two parents, my two elder sisters, my twin brother, and me. We all work together to put smiles on each other’s faces, and that makes us a happy family. Also, I like to draw, play drums, and ride my bicycle. I like doing these activities because they make me happy; nevertheless, I am inquisitive, which is what impacts me with more zeal to continue with my education. Moreover, I believe that hard work, determination, and focus are key elements that can help anyone reach their potential. I employ these elements in my daily life as a student, and they enable me to climb mountains that I feel I cannot survive. At the beginning of my ninth-grade year, I realized that my journey through high school was going to be a challenging yet, rewarding experience. However, I took it one after the other to closely identify my areas of proficiency, make holistic decisions, and create a good experience for myself. Being introduced to many areas of discipline, I began to select my areas of personal interest. I love mathematics and other subjects like Design and English Composition are interesting to me as well, but math just has a way of drawing my attention. Law and public safety, along with forensic science, are also courses that I enjoy. Conversing about crime scenes, criminal procedures, and getting enlightened about the essential skills in law enforcement are things that make me enjoy them. Selecting my areas of interest has helped me through my high school years even up until the moment I enrolled in a university to take dual enrollment classes. I was able to select and successfully take my college courses because I already knew what I was interested in. When I was little, I was at the airport one day and I got amazed seeing how airplanes departed the runways and how some of them gently rode as they arrived with passengers. To me, moments like such were and are intriguing because things like that are very fun to experience. As a young boy, I developed an interest in learning how powered vehicles such as airplanes are engineered to work so efficiently. From that point, I began to think about becoming an engineer. With my good math and science skills, I have been able to soar through rigorous courses and this makes me believe that if I improve them, then I can be a good candidate for becoming a mechanical engineer. Thanks to my family; they encourage me to believe in myself and keep my head up high. Consequently, I have begun to do things better, and I see improvements in myself. I believe in helping people, and this feeds my thoughts about developing a research facility for future young scholars that want to follow a career path in engineering. Also, I see my interests taking me into positions of societal development even in disciplines that I may later venture into. I like the engineering field and I am ready for it! Moving forward in life, we are always going to encounter challenges. The best thing for us to do is not complain, but for us to turn those challenges into solutions. Systematic racism has been a major factor, causing societies to continue to lose the good values they possess. We continue to see it being expressed in schools, restaurants, parks, bus stations, stores, the employment industry, and the police force. This is a pressing issue that has eaten deep down into the American system and other countries of the world, and seems to have no way of being quite eradicated because more and more people keep encouraging it. Racism has negatively impacted the lives of many people and left countless families dismayed with the death of their loved ones. or mental instability as a result of constant racial discrimination. The Black Lives Matter movement, hate crimes, the disturbing images of what racial injustice is doing in our communities. etc have left me questioning the future of our young ones. With the recent happenings in our American communities, it is painful and hard to say that subsequent generations would find it easy to live with the stress and agony that comes with being divided. However, there is still hope that things will get better. If we can all just set aside the fact that we have different skin colors or we originate from different regions of the world, the world would be a better place. Being a highly influential figure, I would like to have more social responsibility: Standing up for unity, peaceful co-existence, and equity. So, if I were a highly influential person, I would not stand up for but I would rather stand against racism. It brings no good to our societies, and it should not be encouraged. Let love reign, and hate be shamed.
