Three years ago I lost my Grandma. I know this isn't my instant family and a lot of people may not be very close with their grandparents but not for me. I loved my grandma so much. My grandma lived in Michigan which is a 3-hour drive from my house. Every Sunday she would call my dad and ask to talk to me and I was always so excited to talk to her and tell her about all that was going on in my life. She was my biggest supporter and always gave me the best advice. My dad says that I remind him a lot of her. I'm so thankful I got to enjoy her presence and learn the lessons that she taught me when she was here with us. When we would go visit my grandma up in Michigan, we had the best time! My grandma and I fished together since before I knew how to walk! She was one of the happiest people I have ever met. I have always struggled with depression and seeing how she could turn any situation positive truly inspired me and made me strive to be more like her. Losing her was one of the hardest things I have ever had to deal with. We knew that her time was running out weeks before she passed. We went to visit her and I remember cuddling up next to her and talking her ear off about everything I was planning for my life. I wanted her to know I was going to be successful. And most importantly I wanted her to know that I was going to be happy, just like she was, and just like she always wanted me to be. Before she died she gave my sister a necklace, and me a ring. The ring is gold and has my birthstone in the middle of it. She bought this when I was born and wore it every day up until she gave it to me. Whenever I am feeling sad, I look down at my right ring finger and remember she wants me to be happy. Losing her has shaped my life because I learned that I can get through anything. If I can lose someone that I love so much, then I can do anything. When I lost her, it was very difficult to deal with and I was depressed, but as I pushed through the pain and lived on, I learned I am stronger now than I was before. I have also become more positive and outgoing because I want her to look down on me and see how good I am doing. I miss my grandma, but I know she is happy and happy for me and how I am accomplishing my goals.

My field of interest is Biology/Pre-Veterinary sciences. I want to be a veterinarian when I get older because I love animals and want to make a difference. I have grown up with dogs, cats, goats, horses, and bunnies. I can assure you that every one of them has made me smile. Whenever I feel overwhelmed, stressed, depressed, or scared, I know everything will be ok when I pet my dog or cuddle with my cat. My pets have saved my life multiple times, and I truly believe that. I want to be a vet to save the lives of other people's pets. Doing this I hope that I can change the lives of their owners as well. I want to save pets so they can save their owners, just like my pets did for me. Seeing the excitement that my dogs possess as I walk through the door of my home makes me feel so happy and loved inside. That's something I think everyone can benefit from. Helping people through the work of saving their pets is not the only reason that becoming a vet has become a passion of mine. I also love the work that vets do, and I think that it is super interesting. The precision and concentration that a vet must have to perform the surgeries that they do is awesome, and I can't wait to learn how to do them. I can see myself being a vet full-time when I grow up and being happy with the work I do. I was always taught that if you do what you love and make money from it, you won't work a day in your life. College is a big stepping stone to becoming a veterinarian, and I am just at the beginning of the next 8 years of my college life. 8 years is a lot of time and money I am putting into my passion. Unfortunately, my family does not come from money, and I have had to work two jobs my whole high school career to get where I am now. As a full-time college student and on the college soccer team, I will be working every evening after classes end. Working is one thing that I have done that proves my dedication to my goal. This essay is another attempt to earn some money for my passion. Becoming a vet is the most important thing to me and I am willing to put in my best effort every day and do anything it takes to get there. I love animals, I love helping people, and I love the work that veterinarians do. These are the reasons I want to be a veterinarian and how I plan on getting there. Dedication, perseverance, and passion.
