Bio

I'm currently pursuing a B.S. in Marketing at Coastal Carolina University. I specifically want to go into social media and digital media marketing, as I find these two areas of marketing very interesting, and I love how there is always something new happening. I currently run the social media accounts for my school's chapter of the American Marketing Association and the College of Business's Career Center. I love learning new things, being creative, and giving back to my community. I'm the eldest of 3 girls, and I enjoy being a role model for my younger sisters; because of them, I am a better leader in my everyday life and show a lot of compassion towards others. After graduating, I plan to get my Master's in Business Administration to gain more experience and be more qualified and well-rounded when I officially enter the professional world.

    Hobbies Matter
My favorite hobby is reading, watching, or listening to true crime stories or anything serial killer-related, but mainly listening. It may sound like an odd hobby to have as a young female college student, but I beg to differ. I have always been a fan of learning about true crime and serial killer cases; my mom is the reason for this interest turned hobby. From an early age, my mother always had watched true crime documentaries, mainly when I stayed home sick from school, and it became a bonding activity for us. However, as I got older and into high school, my time became focused on school, sports, and extracurriculars. I never really had much free time on my hands for this particular interest anymore. Then, August 2020 rolled around, and I entered my first year of college during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. I had a lot of free time on my hands, significantly when I would drive back and forth between college and home. I now had a vast amount of time because everything was still semi shut down, and my hybrid-optional classes allowed me to reignite the interest I once had. The igniting moment was when I stumbled upon a podcast called "Crime Junkies" hosted by Ashley Flowers and Brit Prawat. I had never been the biggest fan of podcasts because I am more of a visual person, but I put that preference aside and gave it a try. To my astonishment, that decision was well worth it because I fell in love with not only listening to the podcast but with the lively interest I had let slip away from me. The podcast encapsulated me and left me excited whenever I had to drive long distances, do time-consuming, tedious tasks, or I had time to decompress and relax. My old interest, now turned hobby, has become a much-needed escape from my busy college life between academics, work, and organizations of which I'm actively a member. My hobby has created the much-needed escape I needed from my day-to-day life, all while feeding my need and urge to learn new information and giving me more knowledge about measures I can do to protect myself as a young black female in college. I enjoy my hobby because it allows me to escape from the busy, stressful reality I occupy. Still, it will enable me to learn about unknown or untold crimes committed amongst the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color communities. These crimes may go unheard of or don't reach the national or local media due to the rampant stigmas within our communities. It encompasses many values I hold when it comes to seeing and discussing the issues within our justice system, policing, and mental health, to name a few. Mostly I love that I have been able to share this hobby with my younger sisters and possibly pass on a legacy of intuitiveness, awareness, and curiosity.
