As I reflect on my future vision as a nurse, I see myself integrating my passion for nurturing, healthcare, and mental health to make a profound impact in underserved communities, both locally and globally. My aspiration to complete an Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) and continue my education toward a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in midwifery is rooted in my experiences, educational background, and the deep sense of responsibility I feel toward helping others. By combining my psychology degree with nursing, I envision a future where I can address not only the physical health needs of families but also their mental well-being. From a young age, I was drawn to caring for others. My earliest memories include nursing injured birds back to health in my childhood home. This simple yet profound experience of nurturing helpless animals taught me about the importance of compassion and patience. It also instilled in me the belief that every life, no matter how small, is worth fighting for. This lesson has stayed with me and continues to guide my approach to healthcare and my vision as a future nurse. Throughout my life, I’ve seen the powerful impact that compassionate care can have on individuals. Whether it was comforting a family member through physical illness or offering support to friends struggling with mental health, I realized that healthcare is more than just treating symptoms. It’s about understanding the whole person—their physical, emotional, and mental needs. This realization fueled my passion for healthcare and led me to pursue a career in nursing. As I embark on my journey to become a nurse, I am particularly drawn to midwifery. This field aligns perfectly with my desire to support families during one of the most significant moments of their lives: childbirth. The role of a midwife goes beyond delivering babies; it encompasses providing holistic care to mothers, fathers, and infants. Midwives offer physical, emotional, and educational support, ensuring that families are well-prepared for the challenges and joys of parenthood. My long-term goal is to complete my DNP in midwifery, which will equip me with the skills and knowledge to offer comprehensive care. As a midwife, I will not only focus on improving infant and maternal health outcomes but also work to educate parents on the importance of mental health. This is where my background in psychology becomes invaluable. I’ve always been passionate about promoting mental health, and I see a unique opportunity to incorporate this into my work as a nurse-midwife. Mental health is often overlooked in maternal and infant care. However, the emotional well-being of both parents plays a critical role in the health of the entire family. As someone who has seen the devastating impact of mental health challenges, including the loss of loved ones to suicide, I am deeply committed to ensuring that mental health is prioritized in maternal care. In my future practice, I envision offering holistic birthing education that includes mental health support for both mothers and fathers. Many parents experience anxiety, depression, or stress during pregnancy and after childbirth, yet they may feel ashamed or reluctant to seek help. By creating a safe and supportive environment, I want to ensure that parents feel empowered to talk about their mental health and receive the care they need. I also plan to advocate for increased awareness and resources for postpartum mental health. The postpartum period is often a time of immense emotional and physical change, and many mothers face challenges such as postpartum depression. As a nurse-midwife, I will work to provide mental health screenings, offer counseling services, and connect families with resources that can support them during this critical time. In addition to my work as a nurse-midwife, I aspire to start a nonprofit organization that focuses on improving infant mortality rates and maternal health in underserved areas. Many communities, both in the United States and around the world, lack access to basic healthcare services. This leads to higher rates of infant mortality and poor maternal health outcomes. Through my nonprofit, I aim to address these disparities by offering healthcare services, education, and support to families in need. The nonprofit would focus on three key areas: increasing access to prenatal and postnatal care, providing mental health support, and educating parents on the importance of maternal and infant health. By offering these services, I hope to empower families to take control of their health and improve outcomes for both mothers and infants. My goal is to not only serve underserved areas in the U.S. but also extend this work to developing countries where maternal and infant health challenges are even more pronounced. In many parts of the world, women face significant barriers to accessing healthcare, including lack of transportation, education, and resources. By partnering with local organizations and healthcare providers, I hope to bring life-saving services to these communities and help reduce global infant mortality rates. At the heart of my vision as a nurse is a commitment to servitude and advocacy. Nursing, to me, is more than a profession; it’s a calling to serve others and advocate for those who may not have a voice. Whether I’m working with an expectant mother, a family in crisis, or a community in need, I will always strive to provide compassionate, patient-centered care. In my future role as a nurse-midwife, I also plan to advocate for policy changes that address the social determinants of health. Many health disparities are rooted in systemic issues such as poverty, lack of education, and limited access to healthcare. By working to address these underlying factors, I hope to contribute to a healthcare system that is more equitable and just for all. My vision for myself as a nurse is one of hope, healing, and service. I see myself as a nurse-midwife who not only delivers babies but also nurtures families, supports mental health, and advocates for change. Through my work, I hope to make a meaningful impact on the lives of the individuals and communities I serve. Whether it’s through direct patient care, my nonprofit, or advocacy efforts, I am committed to using my skills and experiences to improve healthcare outcomes and promote well-being for all. My journey toward becoming a nurse is deeply personal, and it is fueled by my passion for helping others and my belief in the power of compassionate care. I am excited about the future and the opportunities it holds, and I look forward to continuing this journey as I work toward making my vision a reality.
