Bio

Since I was young, I’ve dreamed of running my own construction company. My love for taking things apart and figuring out how to put them back together sparked that dream. Every time I held a tool, I imagined one day building homes that would last. Joining the construction technology program at Tolles Career and Technical Center was my first real step toward making that dream a reality. It gave me the hands-on experience I’d been craving, confirming I was on the right path. Now, I’m fully focused on continuing my education, knowing each step brings me closer to my goals. I’m determined, committed, and won’t stop until I succeed. Every challenge I’ve faced has only fueled my resolve. Soccer has also shaped who I am. Since I was homeschooled for much of my life, soccer became an outlet for teamwork, leadership, and discipline. My time at Tolles broadened my perspective, but soccer kept me grounded. The lessons I’ve learned—determination, perseverance, and respect—are values I bring into everything I do. Growing up, I learned the importance of kindness, compassion, and honesty through action. Volunteering has been a big part of my life, and I believe that giving back is one of the most meaningful things we can do. Looking ahead, I want to use my future business to help build a stronger community by supporting those in need. Success isn’t just about personal achievement but also about how we help others along the way.

Living sustainably is a priority in my daily life, and I make several intentional choices to reduce my carbon footprint. Growing up, I was aware of the impact humans have on the environment, and as I’ve gotten older, I’ve recognized the importance of taking personal responsibility in addressing climate change. From daily habits to lifestyle changes, I am committed to sustainability. One of the key choices I’ve made is minimizing waste, especially single-use plastics. I always bring reusable bags, use a refillable water bottle, and avoid over-packaged products. Reducing plastic waste not only helps cut pollution but also lowers demand for harmful materials. I also recycle and compost organic waste, which diverts items from landfills and produces nutrient-rich soil for gardening, making these small steps add up to a significant positive impact. Energy conservation is another area where I focus. I’ve switched to energy-efficient LED bulbs in my home and make a habit of turning off lights, appliances, and electronics when not in use. Simple practices like unplugging chargers and using a programmable thermostat to manage heating and cooling have reduced my household energy consumption. For transportation, I walk or run errands on foot when possible, and carpool with others to limit car usage. While I don’t yet own an electric vehicle, I plan to in the future. For now, I reduce unnecessary trips by combining errands, helping to lower my fuel consumption. Sustainability also influences my diet. I try to eat locally sourced foods to reduce the carbon emissions from transporting goods long distances and incorporate more plant-based meals into my diet. The meat industry is a significant contributor to greenhouse gases, so by eating less meat, I can lower my environmental impact. Supporting local farmers and choosing organic options aligns with my commitment to sustainability. Reducing my carbon footprint is important because it helps mitigate the effects of climate change, which directly impacts the planet and future generations. Scientific evidence shows that human activity is the primary driver of global warming. By making more sustainable choices, I can contribute to the broader effort to slow climate change and protect ecosystems. I view sustainability as a collective responsibility, where even small actions make a difference. Reducing my carbon footprint is also an investment in the future, creating healthier, more resilient communities. It’s about leaving the world better than I found it, ensuring that future generations have clean air, water, and a livable planet. In conclusion, I prioritize sustainability through reducing waste, conserving energy, eco-friendly transportation, and mindful food choices. These actions help reduce my carbon footprint and contribute to a healthier planet. I believe that personal responsibility in sustainable living is vital for protecting the environment and ensuring a better future for everyone.
    Mental Health Importance Scholarship
Mental health is incredibly important to me, and I believe it plays a significant role in how we view the world and experience life. It impacts my thoughts, mood, and overall well-being. My own journey with mental health began when I was 12 years old, but my understanding of its significance goes back further, to my mom's experiences. My mom struggled with anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) as a young child, but unfortunately, her parents didn’t seek the help she needed. As a result, my mom has spent much of her adult life in and out of therapy, working through her mental health challenges. Despite the stigma that surrounds mental health, she made sure my brother and I grew up knowing there is nothing wrong with needing help. She always emphasized that it takes strength to admit when you need assistance, and there is no shame in seeking support for mental health struggles. Because my mom created such an open environment, I knew that I could go to her when I began to struggle with intrusive thoughts. I started experiencing these at the age of 12, along with some repetitive behaviors. The thoughts were overwhelming, and I couldn’t seem to escape them. When I told my mom, she immediately took me to a therapist. I was diagnosed with OCD and intrusive thought disorder. The therapist taught me several techniques to manage these thoughts, which helped. However, I was still struggling, so my mom took me to see a psychiatrist, who prescribed medication. The combination of therapy and medication made a big difference. After a year, I was able to stop taking the medication, but I continue to use the techniques I learned in therapy to this day. One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is that mental health requires ongoing maintenance, just like physical health. One of the ways I maintain my mental wellness is by revisiting the strategies the therapist taught me, like challenging my intrusive thoughts and reminding myself that they don’t reflect my true feelings. This has been a crucial part of how I manage my mental health on a daily basis. Exercise has also become an essential tool for maintaining my mental well-being. Running 2-5 miles a day has had a profound impact on my mental clarity. When I’m running, I find that my mind clears and my thoughts settle. Breathing in the fresh air, feeling the rhythm of my feet hitting the ground, and focusing on the moment allows me to reset mentally. Running not only helps me stay physically fit but also gives me a mental break, which I’ve found to be incredibly therapeutic. Finally, my dogs have always been a source of comfort and happiness. Growing up with four dogs, I learned that animals have an amazing ability to uplift your mood. Snuggling with my dogs after a long day or when I’m feeling down always cheers me up. They provide a sense of companionship and unconditional love, which has been a huge help for my mental health over the years. In conclusion, mental health is something I take seriously. My mom’s openness about her struggles and the help she provided me when I was younger has shaped my understanding of mental health. I’ve learned that there is no shame in seeking help when needed, and I continue to prioritize my mental wellness through therapy techniques, exercise, and the comfort of my dogs. These practices help me maintain balance, manage stress, and ensure that I stay mentally healthy.

As a young boy, I had two main passions: soccer and construction. I played soccer from the age of six and continued throughout high school, where I was voted JV captain in my sophomore year and varsity captain in my senior year. The leadership experience I gained on the field helped shape my work ethic and commitment to teamwork. Alongside my love for soccer, I was also fascinated by construction. My brother and I would watch bulldozers, excavators, backhoes, and dump trucks in action, dreaming of the day we might operate one. I would stand at construction sites, in awe of how buildings were brought to life from the ground up. From a young age, I knew I wanted to be a part of this world and contribute to the creation of something tangible, something that could stand the test of time. My upbringing played a pivotal role in shaping my interests. I was homeschooled until high school, which gave me a unique opportunity to develop a strong sense of discipline and independence. When the time came to choose a path for my high school education, I made the decision to attend a career and technical school for construction technologies. This choice allowed me to get hands-on experience in a real-world environment, learning everything from pouring concrete and masonry to framing, electrical work, plumbing, and roofing. The variety of skills I acquired during this time only deepened my passion for the construction industry. My teacher at the career and technical school recognized my eagerness to learn and often entrusted me with supervisory roles. I would teach other students skills I had already mastered, which allowed me to develop leadership abilities while also refining my knowledge. This experience taught me the importance of mentorship in the trades, a value I continue to hold as I pursue a career in construction. I believe that the best way to ensure quality craftsmanship and ethical practices is through on-the-job training and guidance from experienced professionals. The construction industry plays a vital role in the development and growth of communities, and skilled trade workers are the backbone of this industry. My dream is to one day own my own construction company, where I can create jobs for other skilled workers, providing them with opportunities to develop their skills and contribute to the industry. I want to foster an environment of continuous learning, where mentorship is a cornerstone, and each worker takes pride in the quality of their craft. I believe in prioritizing attention to detail, hard work, respect, honesty, and integrity in everything I do, and these values will guide my business in the future. To me, home is much more than just a structure. It represents comfort, security, stability, and a place to make cherished family memories. It’s a place of refuge, where we feel safe and grounded. This is why I’ve chosen to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, where I help build homes for families in need. By giving others a place to call home, I feel I am contributing to the well-being of my community. Through my work, I aim to make the place I live a better place for everyone, building quality structures that provide safety and stability to those who need it most. In the end, I am driven by my commitment to excellence, my desire to give back, and my belief that through construction, I can leave a lasting impact on the world around me.

The United States of America is often celebrated as a land of opportunity, freedom, and diversity. As an American citizen, there are many reasons to take pride in the country and its values. One aspect that stands out is the spirit of volunteerism and community service that is deeply ingrained in American society. Volunteering is a powerful tool for social change, and many individuals and organizations have made significant contributions to improving the lives of others through their acts of service. In this essay, I will explore what makes me proud to be an American in relation to volunteering, share my own experiences in volunteering, and discuss how I hope to continue making a positive impact in the future. Historically, volunteering has played a crucial role in shaping American society. One of the key moments in the history of volunteerism was the establishment of the Peace Corps in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy. The Peace Corps provided an opportunity for American volunteers to serve in developing countries and make a positive difference in the lives of others. This initiative not only helped improve communities around the world but also fostered a sense of global citizenship among American citizens. Another influential figure in the history of volunteerism in America is Clara Barton, the founder of the American Red Cross. Barton dedicated her life to providing aid to those in need, both on the battlefield during the Civil War and in times of natural disasters. Her legacy continues to inspire millions of volunteers who work with the Red Cross to provide relief to communities affected by emergencies and disasters. In recent years, volunteering has become more accessible and widespread, thanks to the efforts of organizations like Habitat for Humanity, which I have had the privilege of volunteering with. Habitat for Humanity works to provide affordable housing to families in need, and by participating in their projects; I have been able to make a tangible impact in my community. One of the most transformative experiences I have had in volunteering was going on a mission trip to Cranks Creek, Kentucky with my church youth group. In Cranks Creek, we met families who were living in poverty, without access to basic necessities like running water and electricity. Through our mission trip, we were able to provide these families with food, toys, and other supplies to improve their quality of life. This experience opened my eyes to the harsh realities of poverty and inspired me to continue working towards creating a more equitable society for all. As I look towards the future, I am committed to finding new ways to affect change through volunteering. I believe that volunteering is not just a one-time activity but a lifelong commitment to making a difference in the world. By continuing to volunteer with organizations like Habitat for Humanity and the Red Cross, I hope to contribute to the well-being of my community and empower others to join me in the effort to create a more just and compassionate society. In conclusion, what makes me proud to be an American is the strong tradition of volunteerism and service that has been a defining feature of American society. Through my own experiences in volunteering, I have seen the transformative power of service in improving the lives of others. By learning from influential figures in the history of volunteerism and continuing to engage in acts of service, I am confident that I can make a positive impact on my community and contribute to the ongoing legacy of volunteerism in America.

As I reflect on the past year, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the opportunities I have had to make a difference in the lives of others through volunteering. It all started when I decided to volunteer at a local food bank. I spent countless hours sorting and distributing food, connecting with families, and seeing the gratitude in their eyes. This experience taught me the importance of empathy, kindness, and the power of giving back to those in need. But the volunteering didn't stop there. I also had the privilege of working with the high school soccer coach to coach disadvantaged and disabled children. These children faced physical and mental challenges that made it difficult for them to participate in traditional sports programs. As a volunteer coach, I had the opportunity to work closely with these children, helping them build confidence, develop new skills, and forge lasting friendships. This experience taught me the importance of inclusivity, patience, and the impact that sports can have on a child's life. In December, my church youth group embarked on a life-changing trip to Cranks Creek, Kentucky. In Cranks Creek, we brought food and toys to families living in poverty who lacked basic necessities such as running water and electricity. This experience was eye-opening and humbling, as it exposed me to the harsh realities of poverty and the importance of community support. It was humbling to witness their resilience and strength in the face of adversity. It also reinforced the importance of gratitude and appreciation for the blessings in my own life. Despite my aversion to public speaking, I challenged myself to volunteer as an ambassador at school. As an ambassador, I was responsible for representing the school at various events, giving tours to prospective students, and speaking at school assemblies. This experience pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me develop valuable communication and leadership skills. It taught me the importance of facing my fears, stepping up to challenges, and embracing growth opportunities. Overall, my various volunteering experiences have taught me the importance of compassion, empathy, and community involvement. They have shaped me into a more well-rounded individual, with a greater awareness of the struggles faced by others and a deeper appreciation for the blessings in my own life. Volunteering has not only allowed me to make a positive impact on the lives of others but has also enriched my own life in countless ways.
