Bio

Hi, I'm Kaylyn! In addition to being bubbly and always having a smile on my face, I'm a natural leader and work great on teams. I am happily the President of my school's Mu Alpha Theta Chapter and Science Club. I'm incredibly passionate about Science and Math and enjoy hosting discussions to spread knowledge and excitement about my favorite topics. Another big passion of mine is helping other students out, which is why I co-founded a club called "Reaching Success Together" that mentors/tutors students at risk of not graduating and hosts College/Career success workshops twice a quarter. I give back to my community through Girl Scouts, where I do all sorts of fun activities that educate the younger population and improve peoples' lives. When I'm giving my brain a break, I enjoy riding horses and doing anything art-related, as well as cooking, baking and fishing. In addition to these, I'm an avid artist who is currently having my work displayed in 2 regional art galleries.

"Conserve Life"- Warm colors envelop porcelain mannequins who rest on cold metallic technological items. While these items frequently used in our society act as a foundation, the subjects do not cease to deeply enjoy their surroundings, conserving their quality of life amidst the temptation to fall victim to a mentally exhausting world, as represented by technology.
Elevate Minorities in the Arts Scholarship
Nestled at the crossroads of science, technology, and art, lies my playground, 3-D modeling. This is the mathematical representation of any surface of an object in three dimensions, but at the same time, it is a venue for my boundless creativity. A wide array of softwares afford me the opportunity to arrange a scene in a digital landscape within my screen, all based on an image from the colorful depths of my mind. I take joy in capturing the elements of everyday objects we overlook, such as observing the gloss of a satin sheet. When I create this art with a motivation to make it look photorealistic, I gain an ability to breathe life into a 4400x3200 pixel render. I firmly believe that within my 3-D models and scenes, the character and soul of each piece stems from light, and how it complements each feature of the scene. Manipulating the properties of matter to make light act a certain way is one of the most enjoyable parts of the process, as I get lost in the different levels of intensity I can give a piece. Exploring the properties and physics of water can yield a refreshing foundation of a scene, and doing so in a digital landscape allows me to defy the laws of physics and erase boundaries between a realistic and surreal world. While these scenes and objects are stored within a computer, this art style actually brings me closer to the world around me. I take this hobby extremely seriously, as I can proudly say my artwork is being showcased and judged in two regional art galleries this season. My pieces oftentimes convey a refuge amidst an economic crisis and social decay, with various aspects of the piece breaking down barriers of our lives as we know it today. Through my art and my creations, I want to encourage others to get lost in their creativity and to live their dream by embracing their desires of life. For me personally, supporting my mother in her battle with Breast Cancer was the toughest and lowest point in my life. While art has always brought me joy, during this time, art was my refuge. Art has offered me a venue of expression and self-reflection that no other hobby has. As I strive to showcase my creations at more galleries, I hope that I can reach a diverse group of people from all over the world and make them feel the warm embrace of hope that my art gave me in hard times. With this scholarship, I can invest in new materials to create even more impactful creations, donate to many local organizations that empower minorities in the arts, and expand my breadth into more galleries. My journey with art is one that revolves around helping others navigate their way through life's challenges as I did, and this scholarship will help me elevate it to the next level.

While these scenes and objects are stored within a computer, this art style actually brings me closer to the world around me. As I become more in touch with my surroundings and fall into deep analysis of the simplest objects that are considered ordinary, I can realize my wildest dreams and create an image for many to enjoy. I take this hobby extremely seriously, as I can proudly say my artwork is being showcased and judged in two regional art galleries this season. I hope that as my art is on display, others can find a temporary escape to cope with whatever challenges they face or for sheer enjoyment. Mandy Hale's words now resonate in my mind, “To make a difference in someone's life, you don't have to be brilliant, rich, beautiful, or perfect. You just have to care enough and be there". For me personally, supporting my mother in her battle with Breast Cancer was the toughest and lowest point in my life. While art has always brought me joy, during this time, art was my refuge. Art has offered me a venue of expression and self-reflection that no other hobby has, and has given me a bond with my own creativity that allows me to embark on an everlasting journey, learning about myself and my perceptions of reality and life. As I strive to showcase my creations at more galleries, I hope that I can reach a diverse group of people from all over the world and make them feel the warm embrace of hope that my art gave me in hard times. My pieces oftentimes convey a refuge amidst an economic crisis and social decay, with various aspects of the piece breaking down barriers of our lives as we know it today. Through my art and my creations, I want to encourage others to get lost in their creativity and to live their dream by embracing their desires of life. I want to tell people through the sharp neon hues and luxurious elements highlighted in my work that life's confounding variables shouldn't stand between them and their own idea of happiness. One of the most widespread problems I see in today's society is a fear to pursue one's own happiness due to various misconceptions and stigmas in the community, no matter how that happiness may be achieved. I firmly believe that it is so important for the world to be exposed to my creations so that a spark can be invoked in their soul, a spark of passion, innovation, or joy. My passion, my playground, my peace, my creations with 3-D modeling are all of these things to me, and I deeply believe that if I can share those feelings with the world as their exposed to my creations, there will be an increase of quality of life on the smallest yet most powerful level.
