I have a deep passion for live music and find immense joy in attending concerts featuring my favorite bands. There's something magical about the energy in the air and the way the melodies resonate with the crowd. In addition to music, I have a love for travel, and some of my most cherished destinations include the enchanting atmosphere of Disney World and the tranquil beauty of Jekyll Island, where I can unwind and soak up the wonders of nature.
Giving back to my community holds a special place in my heart. I have dedicated my time to volunteering at a local resource office, where I help provide essential food and financial assistance to those in need. It's fulfilling to see the difference we can make in people's lives.
After high school, I embarked on a journey of self-discovery that wasn't always easy. I faced various personal struggles and setbacks that shaped me into a stronger individual. However, everything changed when I began working in the school system. It was there that I discovered my true calling in special education, a field that feels like my destined path, allowing me to make a positive impact on the lives of students with unique needs.

Being part of a community is akin to belonging to a vast, extended family. Within this framework, we share a profound bond characterized by love and support, which is at the forefront of our interactions. Collectively, we strive to enhance our environment while fostering a sense of belonging and unity. As a cohesive group, we work together toward common future goals, leveraging our diverse talents and skills to make positive contributions to one another’s lives. Furthermore, we are committed to creating a nurturing atmosphere for future generations, ensuring that they inherit a vibrant and supportive community that empowers them to thrive.
Throughout my upbringing, my mother worked at the Division of Family and Children Services (DFACS) and ensured that I understood the challenges faced by less fortunate children. At approximately six or seven years of age, my mother and I initiated a project where, each Christmas, we would select a local child whose family was experiencing hardship and provide that child with gifts. Our first recipient was a girl of similar age from a neighboring town, and we supported her for approximately ten years.
As a child, I recognized that her needs extended beyond the holiday season. When I required new underwear, she might also need similar essentials, prompting us to purchase items for her. During back-to-school shopping, I would also select a few outfits for her. After several years, her family no longer required our assistance, and we transitioned to supporting other families. Nevertheless, she remained a significant influence in my life. She imparted valuable lessons about the importance of giving back and emphasized that, as a community, we collectively share responsibility for one another. Regrettably, she passed away a few years ago. Although I had never met her in person, I experienced the loss of a close friend due to the profound impact she had on my formative years.
Currently, I continue my volunteer work at a local resource center, where I focus on the food bank. Each time I assist at this facility, I am reminded of the vital role this service plays in our community. During my breaks from professional responsibilities, I appreciate the opportunity to support individuals and families who rely on these resources for their everyday needs.
It is gratifying to witness the joy on their faces when they receive essential items such as canned goods and soap—items that many may overlook in their daily lives. As I distribute a can of soup or a bar of soap, I experience a blend of emotions: joy in providing immediate relief and sorrow for the challenges these individuals face. This experience serves as a poignant reminder of the necessity for community support and compassion, reinforcing my dedication to aiding others.
My strong values of community, kindness, and dedication to service have significantly influenced my decision to pursue a career in special education. These principles drive my passion for fostering an inclusive environment where all individuals, regardless of their challenges, can thrive and feel appreciated. Through my professional endeavors, I aim to create positive changes in the lives of students with diverse needs, ensuring they receive the support and encouragement necessary to reach their full potential. By emphasizing the significance of empathy and support, I aim to inspire others to pursue this fulfilling field as well.

I am currently pursuing a degree in special education. With nine years of experience as a special education paraprofessional, I have dedicated seven of those years to working in a dynamic autism classroom. This role has enabled me to engage with the diverse learning styles and needs of students with autism, providing me with valuable insights into their unique abilities and challenges. I have had the privilege of collaborating with these remarkable students, fostering an environment that promotes their growth, independence, and self-expression. Through these interactions, I have developed a profound appreciation for their strengths and the innovative strategies that can effectively support their learning. This journey has not only enhanced my professional skills but also influenced my perspective on the importance of inclusivity and individualized support in education.
I am eager to advance my education and career in this essential field. Upon graduation, my goal is to work with elementary-level special education students, providing them with the necessary support and resources to thrive. My passion for this work is deeply rooted in my personal experiences. Having faced various challenges within an academic setting, I possess a clear understanding of the difficulties and obstacles many students encounter. This firsthand insight enables me to genuinely empathize with the journeys of my students. I am wholly dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals with special needs. I aspire to offer the same level of support, encouragement, and understanding that significantly influenced my development. By cultivating a safe and nurturing environment, I aim to inspire my students to overcome their challenges and realize their fullest potential.
Following my high school graduation, I embarked on a journey of self-discovery that proved both challenging and enlightening. During this time, I encountered various personal struggles and setbacks, each of which contributed to my growth and resilience. These experiences compelled me to confront my limitations and develop a deeper understanding of myself.
My perspective shifted considerably when I began working within the school system. Immersed in this educational environment, I became acutely aware of the diverse needs of students. Through this experience, I discovered my true passion for special education. Supporting students with unique needs felt like a calling, and I recognized that I had the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on their lives. This realization strengthened my resolve to pursue a career in this field, enabling me to advocate for these exceptional students while helping them overcome the obstacles they face. Over time, I have become increasingly committed to this path, which aligns perfectly with my dedication to fostering inclusivity and positivity in the educational landscape.
My goal is to help my students with special needs develop a strong sense of identity and presence within the classroom. I intend to achieve this by focusing on their strengths and interests, which can serve as powerful motivators for their development. By identifying what excites and engages them, I can adapt my teaching methods to facilitate their growth across various academic areas.
Furthermore, I will equip my students with essential tools and strategies to manage their emotions, as emotional challenges can impede their academic progress. This may involve teaching them techniques for self-regulation, stress management, and effective communication of their feelings.
Social-emotional learning is a pivotal aspect of education, as it not only contributes to academic success but also promotes overall well-being. By incorporating these principles into my teaching, I aim to create a supportive and inclusive environment where each student feels empowered to thrive both academically and personally.
