As a student majoring in early childhood education, it is important to me that when I become a teacher, I teach in an inspiring and engaging way. There are so many ways to offer an engaging classroom to young children. One of the most important things a teacher needs to offer for their students is a safe, comfortable zone. In order for young children to be able to focus on learning, they need to be comfortable in their learning environment. As a teacher, I will be honest with my students and I will listen to them and their opinions so that they feel a sense of trust. It is also important to make the classroom look like an inviting and comfortable place. I plan to have a classroom that has furniture and rugs that allows the children to feel at home. I also plan on having snacks that can be given to children who may not have a lot of food at home. Having a comfortable classroom and some essential materials in my classroom will allow the children to feel comfortable and ready to learn. The next thing that I will do as a teacher to get children excited about learning is, teach interactive lessons. Interactive lessons are so important because it allows the children to feel like they have the right to an opinion in the classroom. If children feel like they have some kind of control over what they are learning and how they learn it, they will feel more ready and excited to learn. I can create interactive lesson plans by letting the children do simple tasks or letting them decide simple tasks to do. Including children in these kinds of decisions will make them feel like their opinion matters too and will overall open an opportunity to excitement in the classroom. Another thing that I find is so important is to have positive reinforcement in the classroom. Sometimes it can be hard for children to understand what they are learning or what they need to do and in those times it can be stressful for the child. When a child is feeling down about the learning objectives, positive reinforcement will help them a lot. Telling the children that I am proud of them when I can tell they are doing there best is a great way to make them feel more engaged in the learning process. If a child is constantly frustrated because they think they aren’t learning or understanding something I will use positive reinforcement to show them that it’s okay and that I believe in them. It is so important to make sure that children are excited about learning especially when it comes to early childhood education. I am excited to offer a positive, engaging learning environment for my future students so that they can get the most out of learning and going to school.
