Overcoming Adversity - Jack Terry Memorial Scholarship
Jack Terry’s story is a powerful reminder of the strength of the human spirit. Surviving the horrors of the Holocaust and later choosing to dedicate his life to sharing his experiences is incredibly inspiring. His ability to endure unimaginable pain and still use his life to educate and uplift others motivates me to remain resilient through my own challenges. Though my adversity is different in scale, the message of perseverance and purpose that Jack Terry embodies gives me strength to keep pushing forward in my own journey. One of the most difficult challenges I’ve faced was tearing my ACL and meniscus during cheerleading. As a high school cheerleader, my life revolves around movement, discipline, and pushing physical limits—so being sidelined by this injury was both physically painful and emotionally draining. The recovery process has been slow, filled with moments of frustration, fear, and self-doubt. There were times when I questioned if I would ever return to the mat or perform stunts again, but I knew I couldn’t give up. Throughout this recovery, I’ve learned so much about patience, mental toughness, and the importance of community. Physical therapy taught me to celebrate small victories, and my teammates constantly reminded me that I am more than my injury. Most importantly, I learned that adversity isn’t just something to endure—it’s something to grow from. I now carry a deeper appreciation for my body, my sport, and the people who have supported me throughout this journey. Inspired by Jack Terry’s courage and my own recovery, I want to use my experiences to help others facing physical setbacks. I’m pursuing studies in health sciences with the goal of becoming a physical therapist or athletic trainer. I want to work with athletes who are going through injuries like mine, not just to help them heal physically but to support them mentally and emotionally as well. My experience has shown me how deeply intertwined the body and mind are, especially during recovery. In giving back to society, I hope to offer more than just clinical support—I want to be a source of encouragement and strength for others. Just as Jack Terry turned his trauma into a source of light for others, I want to transform my injury into a way to uplift and empower. My dream is to build a career that not only heals but inspires, so that no one has to walk their journey alone.
      Learner Math Lover Scholarship
My name is Kaylee Janes, and I am a senior at Green County High School. I have always loved math. Ever since I was three, math intrigued me. Although I had good grades in all the other subjects, math was the only one that I found fun. In fifth grade, I attended a summer camp called "STEM Camp" we would do STEM related activities , like math problem solving, and it was the funnest camp I had attended. When I reached eighth grade, I started taking high school math classes. From eighth grade to now I have taken Algebra 1, Geometry Honors, Algebra 2, College Algebra, Calculus, and Trigonometry. During state testing, I always got excited to take the math portion of the test because I knew I would get a really good score. When I would get home from school I would practice the math section of the ACT. All in all, I love math and in the field I want to study my knowledge will be very beneficial. This scholarship would help send me to college in order to use my love of math to help other people. Thank you so much for your time and consideration. I would love to receive this scholarship.
