I'm Kaylah, and I'm currently wrapped up my senior year of high school. It's been a whirlwind, honestly, but it's taught me so much about rolling with the punches and really stepping up to the plate. I even picked up a part-time job, and while it's been great for learning new things, a huge part of why I wanted it was to help out at home. My mom is seriously incredible ,a single parent who works non stop to make sure I have everything I need. Seeing her dedication inspires me daily, and I just want to ease some of her financial load, especially since she's always encouraged me to focus on my education and build a bright future for myself. My biggest goal in life is to create a super comfortable and secure future for my family. I want us all to live without a single worry about money or basic necessities. For me, real success isn't just about my own achievements, like graduating high school; it's about getting to a place where my mom, uncle, and grandma can truly relax and enjoy life without constant stress or hard labor. I dream of being able to unconditionally support them, whether that means buying my mom her dream house or fulfilling any other desire they might have, no matter the cost. My ultimate aim is to uplift their quality of life so much that hardship becomes a distant memory. I'm a firm believer that our background doesn't define our destiny. I totally reject the idea that who we are or what we can achieve is predetermined by our family's past or any perceived shortcomings. Instead, I've really focused on nurturing essential qualities like kindness, patience, empathy, and a deep sense of care for others. These values are at the core of who I am, shaping how I interact with the world and my overall outlook. I'm confident these characteristics will be my superpower, empowering me to tackle any path I choose and achieve meaningful success. Now I do wanna express how absolutely thrilled I am about applying for this financial need scholarship. Seriously, it means the world to me to even have this opportunity.I know you must get an overwhelming number of applications from so many talented people, and I really respect that. But, I truly believe my personal journey has given me a unique perspective and a kind of drive that makes me stand out. You see, coming from a background where things haven't always been easy has actually taught me a ton about resilience and hard work. I’ve always had to really push myself to achieve my academic goals, and honestly, I think that grit and determination are huge indicators of what I can accomplish in the future. It’s not just about grades; it’s about that 'never give up' spirit! For me, getting a higher education isn't just about a degree; it’s a game changer not just for me, but for my entire family. It's about breaking cycles and building a brighter future, and eventually being able to contribute back to my community in a meaningful way. I dream of being an example for future generations and showing them that with dedication and support, anything is possible. I'm super excited about the possibility of being part of your program and making the most of this chance. I really hope my story resonates with you and you can see the potential and passion I'm bringing to the table.

I was just thinking about music and had to share something with you that always gets me right in the feels. Have you ever seen Taylor Swift's acoustic performance of "Death by a Thousand Cuts" from her "City of Lover" concert in Paris? If not, you seriously have to check it out,it’s a total game changer! You know how the album version of that song is a big, upbeat pop track? Well, for this performance back in 2019, she just brought it all back to basics. It's literally just her and an acoustic guitar, and let me tell you, it transforms the entire song. Instead of a pop anthem, it becomes this incredibly raw, vulnerable, and deeply personal storytelling moment. What really stands out is her voice. With all the usual production stripped away, every single word she sings is crystal clear, and you can practically feel the heartbreak and desperation coming through. It's like she's pouring her entire soul into it, making a direct, emotional connection that's just so powerful. We're so used to seeing Taylor in these massive stadiums with elaborate stage setups, right? But this performance is the complete opposite. It feels so intimate and quiet, almost like you're getting a secret, private concert. It really highlights her core artistry as a singer-songwriter, showing off her incredible talent for connecting with an audience through just her voice and a few chords. It’s truly a special moment that reminds you what an amazing storyteller she is. You should definitely give it a listen/watch! Thank me later lol ;)

High school was definitely a busy and rewarding time for me. I really made an effort to focus on my studies, and I'm proud to say I managed to keep my grades pretty high, finishing my senior year with a 3.7 GPA! I always challenged myself by taking advanced honor classes, which even led to an invitation to join the honor society – that was a super cool moment. Getting recognized with awards for my academic performance and consistently making the honor roll was really encouraging too. But it wasn't all about hitting the books! I also loved getting involved in other activities. I spent a year on the dance team, which was an absolute blast and taught me so much about dedication, teamwork, and commitment. Plus, I had this amazing opportunity to participate in a Summer Youth Internship Program. I got hands-on experience working with The Historic BK House and Gardens on their TeenTours, which was incredibly insightful! It really helped me figure out what I enjoy in a professional setting and definitely strengthened my work ethic. Being a first-generation college student is not merely a label; it is a profound aspect of my identity and journey. This milestone represents more than just a title; it embodies the hopes and dreams of my family. As the first in my family to attend college, I carry the weight of their aspirations with me. This monumental step is not just a personal achievement; it is a collective victory that my family is celebrating. It feels like I am taking a significant leap towards the future that my mother always envisioned for me, a future filled with possibilities and opportunities that she has always dreamed I would have. Her unwavering support and encouragement fuel my determination, making this experience all the more meaningful. I am proud to pave the way for future generations in my family, and this journey is a testament to our resilience and dedication. Sure, there are moments when the expectations feel pretty big that familiar pressure to excel and make everyone proud. But my mom, bless her heart, has always reminded me it's not about chasing perfect grades or specific achievements. For her, it's about me discovering my own way, embracing every experience, and truly living out this incredible journey. It’s less about a destination and more about enjoying the process, finding balance, and remembering to just breathe through the wild ride of life! My senior year was quite a whirlwind, honestly! It taught me so much about bouncing back and taking responsibility. I even picked up a part time job, not just for the experience, but mainly to pitch in at home. My incredible mom, a single parent, has always been my biggest hero, working tirelessly to make sure I had everything. Watching her push through everything to provide for me lit a fire in me! I really wanted to help lighten her load, especially since she’s always emphasized that my education comes first, as it's the ultimate key to a brighter future and avoiding the hardships she's encountered. Her sheer strength and unwavering belief in me have truly shaped my dedication to learning and growing. All those lessons about hard work, empathy, and just keeping at it! Have really geared me up for what I want to do next, a super fulfilling career in education. It's not just about ticking boxes for me, I'm genuinely passionate about creating a positive impact, just like my mom has been such a profound force for good in my own life. I'm already hard at work exploring every financial aid avenue, including federal programs, but I know there’s still going to be a gap when it comes to covering everything for college. Receiving this scholarship would honestly be monumental for me. It’s not just about paying for classes, it would free me up to truly dive into my studies and chase my academic and career dreams without the constant stress of financial worries. It would be the ultimate empowerment, allowing me to build the future my mom always hoped for and the one I'm so eager to create myself. Thanks a million for considering me for this amazing opportunity! Kaylah Perez

Greetings, For me, being a first generation college student, getting this degree isn't just about a piece of paper; it's about proving to myself what I'm truly capable of. It's about turning those nagging 'can I really do this?' thoughts into a resounding 'yes, I can!' But honestly, it's so much bigger than just me. I really hope that by being the first in my family to pursue higher education, I can light a spark for my younger cousins, siblings, and future children. I want them to see that big dreams aren't just for others they're absolutely for us too. And let's be real, a college degree opens up so many doors, especially when it comes to financial stability. I'm thinking about being able to confidently handle whatever life throws my way without constant stress. It's about building a really solid foundation, maybe even affording a cozy home in a safe neighborhood, or just making sure my family always has everything we need. That kind of security isn't just for me, it's about giving us all a much better shot at a truly great quality of life. I genuinely believe that what I'm doing now is creating a positive ripple effect for everyone who comes after me. She's always taught me what true resilience looks like and that nothing worthwhile is just handed to you. You absolutely have to earn it. She's seriously my biggest inspiration. On top of all that, I've picked up a part time job. It feels good to chip in and help my mom with some of the financial load. Ultimately, I'm just striving to be the best version of myself, the thoughtful and determined young woman my family raised me to be, and hopefully, set a positive example not just for my friends, but for all the younger folks looking up to me. I wish to express my profound gratitude for the invaluable opportunity to share my personal journey and aspirations with you. It was truly an honor to articulate the experiences that have shaped my path and solidified my commitment to pursuing further education. The Importance of education is crucial for gaining knowledge and skills, going beyond textbooks to pass on life lessons. In our rapidly evolving world, it's vital to educate intelligent individuals who can tackle modern problems effectively. Education shapes successful individuals, enabling them to contribute to society by acquiring necessary skills. It equips us to face challenges, become well-rounded individuals, and preserve our culture. Through education, we learn societal norms and values. Moreover, education is instrumental in instilling a disciplined approach to personal and professional development, which in turn significantly enhances opportunities for economic advancement and career progression. I believe that it is essential to always act with integrity and honesty, even when it is difficult. By setting an example of ethical behavior, I hope to inspire others to do the same and create a more trustworthy and just world. Moreover, I wish to be remembered for resilience and unwavering perseverance. Life's inevitable trials shape our character, and I aspire to be.

look back at high school and realize there was that one teacher who just *got* you? For me, that was absolutely Mrs. Kohl Marti, my English teacher back in 10th grade. She was so much more than just a person who taught us about Shakespeare and classic novels. Honestly, she truly helped me unlock a belief in myself that I didn't even know I was missing. Public speaking was my absolute nightmare back then. The mere thought of standing in front of everyone and talking would make my stomach drop! So, when this big presentation project came up, Mrs. KhoI totally picked up on how nervous I was. Instead of just letting me flounder or maybe even accept a lower grade, she actually pulled me aside and offered to work with me during lunch! It wasn't just about 'how to stand' or 'how to project' either. She really dug deep, helping me find a topic I genuinely cared about and then coaching me to own my unique perspective. She made me feel like my voice truly mattered. Her unwavering faith in me, even when I didn't have it in myself, was such a huge motivator. It pushed me to put in the extra effort and finally face those nerves head-on. And when the big day arrived, I actually got up there and delivered the presentation with a confidence I honestly didn't think I had! There's no way I could've done that without her amazing support. Seriously, the stuff she taught me went way beyond English class. It was all about kindness, patience, and just how powerful it can be to have someone truly in your corner. I still think about her lessons and try to bring that same encouraging energy to my own interactions and goals. She genuinely helped mold me into a more confident and resilient person, and I'll always be so incredibly thankful for the mark she left on me. When you picture how many people you come in contact with and how many teachers you’ve had, still have and will have in the future you realize how impersonal the relationships are. Mrs. KhoI intent seemed to be that she wanted to get to know each student so she could help with school or personal problems. I’d like to finish by saying that I’ve never before come across a person like Mrs.Khoi. Her personality outshines those of most teachers. Her desire for my success in life seems only surpassed by my parents, family and the staff of Upward Bound. Her ability to teach and her process of teaching is a great help to me and to others. To me Mrs. Khoi is the Best Teacher” I’ve ever had.

Motivated and high-achieving students from disadvantaged backgrounds deserve opportunities such as scholarships or grants because our high achievement under difficult circumstances is arguably a better predictor of future success than the performance of students who have always had access to abundant resources; we demonstrate the tenacity and work ethic required to succeed against the odds. Education is one of the most effective tools for breaking generational cycles of poverty, and by providing access to higher education, we as students can transform our lives, contribute to society, and inspire future generations to overcome adversity. I'm so incredibly excited to be applying for this financial need scholarship! I know you must receive a huge number of applications from many talented individuals, but I genuinely believe my unique journey and experiences make me a really strong candidate, and I hope my story resonates with you. My senior year of high school was definitely a challenging one, but it also taught me so much about resilience and responsibility. I took on a part-time job, not just to gain valuable experience, but also to help out at home. My amazing mom is a single parent, and seeing her work tirelessly to provide for me has always been a huge inspiration to me. I wanted to do my part to ease some of her financial burden, especially since she's always encouraged me to focus on my education and build a successful future. She's truly been my biggest cheerleader, constantly reminding me that an education is the key to unlocking opportunities and avoiding the struggles she faced. Her unwavering strength and dedication have instilled in me a deep commitment to learning and personal growth. I'm confident that the lessons in hard work, empathy, and perseverance I've learned through these experiences have prepared me incredibly well for a fulfilling career in education. I'm not just looking to meet criteria; I'm genuinely passionate about making a real difference, just as my mom has made a profound difference in my life. While I'm actively pursuing all available financial aid options, including federal assistance, I anticipate there will still be a significant gap in covering my college expenses. This scholarship would be an absolute game-changer for me. It wouldn't just help me afford tuition; it would allow me to fully immerse myself in my studies and pursue my academic and career goals without the constant worry about finances. It would truly empower me to achieve the future my mom dreamed of for me, and the one I'm so determined to build.Thank you for the opportunity! - Kaylah Perez
