The most important skill to teach a child is the art of advocacy. This skill involves helping them assert their own needs and rights while also standing up for others in their community. By teaching a child how to clearly express their thoughts and feelings, engage in respectful dialogue, and handle difficult conversations, we equip them with the tools necessary to face life's challenges. Fostering their confidence in speaking out, encouraging empathy for others, and demonstrating the importance of collective support empowers them to become not only self-advocates but also compassionate allies. This skill will serve them well throughout their lives, enabling them to effect positive change in their own lives and in society as a whole. I envision myself as a dedicated and compassionate advocate for children, working tirelessly to provide guidance and support to those who face challenges. My goal is to create an environment where every student feels valued, understood, and empowered. By fostering a nurturing atmosphere within the educational setting, I aim to ensure that each child has a solid foundation of support, enabling them to thrive both academically and personally. As a mother, I have dedicated myself to ensuring my son receives the love and support he needs to thrive despite his special needs. This commitment led me to set aside my dreams and focus on his development, spending countless hours researching therapies and educational strategies. At thirty, I am eager to pursue my bachelor's degree, not only for personal fulfillment but to create a secure future for my family and help others. With a 3.8 GPA, I am determined to work diligently and continue striving for higher goals as we navigate this new chapter together. As the chair of fundraising at my children's school, I am deeply committed to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to participate in all the enriching activities and events offered throughout the year. My primary goal is to raise sufficient funds so that no child feels excluded, regardless of their family's financial situation. This role is not just a position for me; it is a labor of love fueled by my personal experiences. Having grown up without the means to enjoy many extracurricular activities, I recognize how vital these experiences are for fostering a sense of belonging and community. I tirelessly dedicate my efforts to creating an environment where inclusion, fun, and camaraderie flourish. Through every fundraising event we organize, we aim not only to gather financial support but also to build memories that will last a lifetime for our students as they bond with their peers during shared experiences. It fills my heart with joy to see our community come together and contribute to a nurturing atmosphere where every child can shine. I firmly believe that a robust support system is crucial not only for children with special needs but for all students, as they navigate the complexities of school life. My commitment to fostering an inclusive and nurturing atmosphere within schools motivates me to pursue this path, and I look forward to championing the well-being and success of every child. The prospect of working directly with young minds and helping them unlock their full potential excites me, and I am eager to make a lasting difference in my community.

A home is a haven for peace, a place to be yourself and to build memories on for our future. My family was a victim of domestic violence, and it shaped the way I view what a home is. Growing up I lived in many places; we did not ever stay long. There were constantly new people in our lives so no one person was consistent. Finding my peace allowed me to find a way to choose where I belong. At some point in life, I learned I am home. Home is me. Moving around a lot made it hard to find home. During my fifth-grade year, I lived in six different houses. School was tough; even though I was an excellent student, being the new kid made making friends difficult. The schools felt the same, with adults trying to help and free lunches, but they never felt like home. Each house was just a box without a sense of belonging. One was a domestic violence shelter where I found a friend who made me feel at ease, but she eventually left. Soon after, her room was filled by someone new. As the oldest of four, I keenly observed the changes in our lives and the people we encountered. I learned early that friends found in a domestic violence shelter weren’t necessarily lifelong ones. My mom, a phenomenal woman, did her best to protect us from the chaos, but at times, she couldn't control our circumstances. We once lived across from a neighbor who cared for us briefly while my mom was unable to. When we returned home, we had to leave again, saying goodbye to the neighbor, and we've not seen her since. Finding peace with childhood trauma can be challenging, and establishing a home feels difficult. Growing up without a stable environment, I was determined to create a safe, loving space for my children. Although my childhood was chaotic, I learned to cultivate inner peace. A home isn’t just a physical structure; it’s about sharing love and striving to be better every day. This understanding didn’t come easily, and I often feel the need to rearrange my space in search of stability. I define where I feel at home, whether it’s in my thoughts, during a bubble bath, or in the laughter of my children. My husband provides me with a sense of home each day, and I choose to embrace the joy of home-cooked meals and stability in our mortgage. Home is more than just a place; it’s where I create happiness. Home will always be what I make it because home is where I am and knowing this is in thanks to my mom- who made sure we always had a home. My vision for the future is to be a dedicated advocate for children, offering guidance and support to those facing challenges, especially the vulnerable. I want to create an environment where every student feels valued and empowered, helping them thrive academically and personally. I believe a strong support system is essential for students navigating school life. My commitment to creating an inclusive and nurturing environment drives me to champion the well-being and success of every child. I am excited about the opportunity to work with young minds and make a lasting difference in my community. John F. Kennedy's quote, "One person can make a difference, and everyone should try," captures our potential for meaningful change. It reminds us that we each have the ability to contribute to our communities and encourages collective responsibility for a better world.

I believe the struggle for balance stems from the desire to do everything while finding it challenging to prioritize what matters less.  In my life, I wear many hats and take on a multitude of roles that keep me constantly engaged. As the fundraising chair for the pto at my children's school, I'm also involved in a bond committee for the school district, where I contribute to discussions on funding and improvements that directly affect our schools. My commitment extends to being a member of a district event committee, where I help plan activities that bring our community together. Beyond my formal commitments, I am the room mom for my daughter’s class, ensuring that every celebration and school event is memorable. As a wife, daughter, and mother, my family is at the core of my being, and I cherish the time spent with them, along with our dogs. Additionally, I am a sister and a friend, striving to maintain those important relationships. I serve as a team mom for my daughter’s volleyball team, supporting her and her teammates as they grow both individually and as a team. I am equally devoted to my son, cheering him on in his robotics club and advocating for his needs as he navigates dyslexia. This advocacy requires significant time and effort on my part, often leading me down research rabbit holes as I seek the best resources and strategies to help him thrive. On top of fulfilling these numerous roles, I am also a full-time college student, balancing my studies with all my commitments. Some days, I feel like I’m juggling a dozen balls in the air, trying to keep everything from crashing down. It’s a constant struggle to find a sense of balance amidst the chaos, and I know I should probably let something slip. Yet, I find it challenging to part ways with any of these commitments, as each one holds significant meaning and importance in my life. I believe this is a struggle many of us face—navigating the delicate balance between work, family, and personal passions because choosing who/what to let down is not easy.  I've come to realize that navigating life requires a delicate balance. It's essential for me to prioritize my own well-being and the responsibilities I've already committed to. This insight has prompted me to learn the importance of setting boundaries, which means resisting the allure of new opportunities and requests that, while tempting, could stretch me too thin. By saying no to these future commitments, I’m making a conscious choice to honor my existing obligations and ensure that I maintain my personal harmony. I've come to realize that it's perfectly fine to set aside my computer for an evening dedicated to enjoying a movie night or sharing a delicious dinner with friends. Embracing these moments allows me to connect with loved ones and create lasting memories, far away from the distractions of screens and technology. Mental health is a crucial issue that affects many people in our society and motivates us to improve. To address this matter effectively, we need a combination of awareness, resources, and open conversations about mental health. This approach will help create a supportive environment for everyone as we lean on our support system.
