I am a dedicated healthcare professional with a Bachelor of Science in Radiation Therapy and several years of clinical experience working directly with cancer patients. My work in radiation oncology has shaped my passion for patient-centered care, precision, and continuous learning. After training on advanced technologies such as Varian Halcyon, Ethos adaptive planning, and Hypersight imaging, I discovered a strong interest in the treatment planning side of the field. This motivated me to pursue my medical dosimetry education to expand my role in improving treatment accuracy and patient outcomes.
Living with type 1 diabetes has also influenced my perspective and strengthened my resilience, empathy, and commitment to helping others. I balance academic and clinical responsibilities with a strong work ethic, communication skills, and a genuine dedication to my patients and team.
My goal is to become a medical dosimetrist who contributes to safe, effective, and innovative radiation treatments. I am committed to growing within this field and making a positive impact on patients and the radiation oncology community.

Living with Type 1 diabetes has had a profound impact on who I am, shaping both my daily life and the goals I have for my future. Unlike many conditions that can be managed passively, Type 1 diabetes requires constant attention, decision making, and responsibility. Every day involves monitoring blood sugar levels, calculating insulin doses, and anticipating how factors like stress, food, and activity will affect my body. This level of awareness has taught me discipline and accountability in a way that extends far beyond my health.
One of the most challenging aspects of living with Type 1 diabetes is its unpredictability. Blood sugar levels can shift quickly, sometimes without a clear cause, and these fluctuations can affect my ability to focus, think clearly, and physically function. Managing this while balancing the demands of a rigorous healthcare program has not always been easy. There have been moments during exams, clinical experiences, or long days where I have had to pause, adjust, and regain control before continuing. These experiences have forced me to develop resilience and adaptability, learning how to move forward even when things are not going as planned.
At the same time, living with this condition has given me a unique perspective that has shaped how I approach others. I understand what it feels like to manage something that is not always visible to those around you. Because of this, I am more aware, patient, and empathetic when interacting with others who may be dealing with their own challenges. In healthcare, this perspective is invaluable. It allows me to look beyond a diagnosis and recognize the real, everyday impact a condition can have on someone’s life.
My experience with Type 1 diabetes has also strengthened my ability to advocate for myself. Whether it is ensuring I have the time and space to manage my health or communicating my needs in academic and clinical settings, I have learned the importance of speaking up. This confidence has carried over into other areas of my life, helping me take initiative and remain proactive in my education.
Looking ahead, my goal is to build a career in healthcare where I can combine technical skill with compassion and understanding. Living with a chronic condition has shown me that effective care is not only about treatment, but also about recognizing the person behind the condition. I want to be someone who listens, supports, and considers the full experience of each patient, not just their clinical needs.
Type 1 diabetes is something I will manage for the rest of my life, but it is not something that limits what I can achieve. Instead, it has shaped my work ethic, strengthened my resilience, and deepened my empathy. These qualities will continue to guide me as I move through school and into my career, allowing me to not only succeed, but to make a meaningful impact on others.
