Hello! I'm a recent graduate from The University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Communication Studies and Media Studies. After a long struggle of determining what I wanted to major in, I finally decided to go with my heart, and follow my passions. I love helping others, and I am fearless in the pursuit of my goals. My tenacity will help others I cross paths with to meet their goals as well.
I'm the perfect candidate; I am a hard worker who is willing to persevere through any obstacle to reach my goals. For example, volleyball which is a great passion of mine. My junior year of high school, I was cut from the team. With my "failure" in my mind and heart, I worked hard to become my school's student body president as well as making the varsity team my senior year. Proving that if I put my mind to something, I am able to achieve anything.
Additionally, I was diagnosed with a rare congenital heart disease at the age of 9, which limits me from doing certain things in my everyday life. However, I have taken this challenge to strengthen my relationship with myself and others and have been able to do things I never thought possible.
With all this being said, I am extremely grateful for any opportunities which come my way. Coming from a family of two educators, I have quickly learned that teacher have one the most hard yet underpaid professions. Which can make paying for college extremely difficult. I am hopeful to receive any scholarships and/ or nominations for being "bold", there is nothing more powerful than a strong, educated, Latina woman.

As I stood at the back of the line, in my kindergarten class, I felt ashamed. A strong emotion for a 5 year old little girl to feel, but I was the shortest one in the class, I couldn't help it.
The pattern of being the shortest person in my class carried through for the rest of my academic career. In all the lines of "tallest to shortest," I was in the back, I was at the front of every pictures since, "little ones go to the front." It was hard for me to feel powerful, or feel that my voice ever mattered, and I was often ridiculed for my small stature, but one teachers words changed my view on my height for the rest of my life.
I was in my fourth grade class with one of my favorite teachers I have ever had, Ms. Esqueda. Someone had made a snarky comment about my height, something I was used to, but it was from a boy I had a crush on. So, like any young girl who hears something she didn't like, I was devastated. The hurt from his words was apparent in my body language and in my face, as I slouched low in my chair as to not be seen. But, as any great teacher does, Ms. Esqueda saw me.
Ms. Esqueda called me over to her desk, and proceeded to tell me the wisest thing I have ever heard, "Life's greatest gifts come in small packages." While this may seem cheesy to some, it was those words that lead to becoming my high school's student body president, lettering in varsity volleyball, and gaining acceptance into my dream college.
So, thank you Ms. Esqueda. You changed this "little" girl's life forever.
