    First Generation College Scholarship
As a first-generation immigrant and the first in my family to go to college, my identity has shaped how I see the world and my future. My parents didn’t finish high school, and no one in my family has gone to college. They brought us to the U.S. for one reason: a better life through education. Adjusting to a new country wasn’t easy. I had to learn a new culture, help my parents navigate life here, and figure out school mostly on my own and take on responsibilities most kids my age didn’t have. Despite these challenges, I’ve stayed focused, worked hard, and kept pushing forward because I know how much is on the line—not just for me, but for my whole family. We’ve faced serious financial struggles—sometimes not knowing how we’d pay rent or afford school supplies. I’ve had to handle the entire college process myself, from financial aid to applications, all while helping at home and working part-time when I could. I’m not asking for a handout—I’m asking for a chance. This scholarship would relieve a huge burden and help me focus on achieving something no one in my family ever has. I’ve come so far, and with your support, I’m ready to go even further.

Throughout my life, I’ve always felt strongly about making a difference in the world, especially for people who face obstacles like I have. I know that higher education is one of the best ways to create opportunities, which is why I’m determined to pursue a college degree. My academic goal is to study business so that I can eventually help people in underrepresented communities and work to create a more equal and just world. My professional goal is to work in a field that lets me make a positive impact on the lives of others, whether it's advocating for better education systems or supporting youth who face challenges like I did growing up. One of the things I’ve always been passionate about is giving back to my community. I’ve been involved in several volunteer projects that focus on helping others in my neighborhood and school. I’ve spent time tutoring younger students who need help with their schoolwork, especially those who struggle with basic skills or don’t always have the support they need at home. I’ve also helped organize events that encourage students to stay in school and pursue their goals, like college fairs and mentorship programs. These experiences have shown me how important it is to lift each other up, and how small efforts can make a big difference in someone’s life. One of the reasons I’ve been so involved in my community is because I understand what it feels like to not always have access to the resources or support that some students get. Growing up, I didn’t always have everything I needed, and I saw how hard it can be to stay motivated when the odds are stacked against you. But I’ve also seen how support from others—whether it's through mentoring, encouragement, or tutoring—can help a student realize their potential and achieve things they might have thought were impossible. That’s why I’m so committed to giving back. I want other students to feel empowered and know that they have the ability to succeed, no matter where they come from. These experiences have inspired me to pursue a career where I can have a bigger impact on people’s lives. Whether it’s by helping improve education or by creating programs that support at-risk youth, I want to use my education to make the world a better place. I want to help open doors for students who might feel like they have no way out, just like others helped me when I needed it. This scholarship would help me take a big step toward achieving my goals. It would allow me to focus on my studies without the constant worry about how to pay for college. With this support, I would be able to continue giving back to my community and work towards a career where I can make an even bigger impact. I’m excited about the opportunity to further my education and use everything I learn to create a positive change for others.

The person I admire most is my dad. He never had the chance to go to college, but he’s always shown me the value of hard work and never giving up, no matter what life throws at you. Growing up, I saw him work long hours, make sacrifices, and do whatever it took to take care of our family. Even though he didn’t get the formal education he always wanted, he pushed me to make the most of every opportunity, especially when it came to school. He taught me that education is one of the most powerful ways to change your future, and I want to honor his sacrifices by working hard to create a better life for myself. Even though my dad didn’t go to college, he always made sure I knew how important it was to take my education seriously. He would talk about how difficult it was for him to get ahead in life without a degree, and he didn’t want me to face the same struggles. He often told me, “You have a chance to do things I never could. Don’t waste it.” Those words stuck with me, and they motivate me every day to do my best in school and make the most of my education. Seeing my dad work so hard for everything he has made me realize that getting a higher education isn’t just about getting a job—it’s about creating opportunities for yourself and breaking down barriers. My dad’s life has shown me that, with determination and the right tools, anything is possible. I want to take what he’s taught me and use my education to achieve things he never had the chance to. His sacrifices have made it possible for me to pursue college, and I’m determined to make the most of that opportunity. I chose to participate in speech and debate because my dad always emphasized the importance of being able to communicate clearly and confidently. He believed that knowing how to express yourself and stand up for what you believe in was key to making an impact, whether in school, at work, or in life. At first, I wasn’t sure if I’d be good at speech or debate, but I quickly realized how much I enjoyed researching issues, forming arguments, and speaking in front of others. The skills I’ve developed in speech and debate—like critical thinking, research, and public speaking—are not only helping me in school but are also preparing me for college and beyond. Speech and debate have also given me a chance to talk about things that matter to me, like social justice and equality. The more I practiced, the more I realized how powerful words can be, and I want to keep improving these skills to be able to make a difference. Whether it’s in college or in my future career, I know the ability to communicate effectively will be one of the most important skills I can have. My dad’s hard work and belief in me have inspired me to aim high and make the most of the opportunities I’ve been given. Participating in speech and debate has helped me build the skills I need to succeed, and earning a college degree will give me the chance to turn my dreams into reality. This scholarship would help me take the next step toward achieving those goals, and I’m excited to keep working hard to make my dad proud.

After much reflection, I have decided to pursue a degree in business administration, with a concentration in entrepreneurship. This decision stems from my lifelong fascination with innovation and the limitless potential of entrepreneurship to change lives, communities, and even the world. Growing up as an Asian American, I have always had a unique perspective shaped by the interplay of cultural heritage and the American experience. My identity is not just a label; it is a tapestry woven from the rich traditions of my ancestry and the diverse landscape of American society. Being Asian American means I navigate a world filled with dualities—balancing the expectations of my family and cultural traditions with the opportunities and challenges of life in the United States. This background has profoundly impacted who I am today and fuels my ambition to pursue higher education. The values instilled in me by my family are at the core of my identity. My parents, immigrants who came to this country in search of a better life, taught me the importance of hard work, resilience, and the pursuit of knowledge. They often share stories of their struggles and sacrifices, emphasizing that education is one of the most powerful tools we can possess. I carry their hopes and dreams with me as I navigate my own path. Their determination has inspired me to reach for higher aspirations, not just for myself but for the future generations of our family. At the same time, my Asian American identity has come with its own set of challenges. I have experienced moments of feeling like an outsider, whether in social circles or academic settings. Stereotypes and misconceptions about Asian Americans often lead to erasure of our diverse experiences and struggles. Yet, these moments of discomfort have propelled me to embrace my identity proudly and advocate for representation and inclusion. I have learned the importance of breaking down barriers and fostering understanding among diverse communities. These experiences have solidified my desire to contribute positively to society, amplifying the voices of those who may not have the opportunity to be heard. Moreover, I believe that attending college will provide a unique opportunity to connect with a diverse group of individuals, each bringing their unique perspectives and experiences. I am eager to engage in meaningful dialogues, challenge my own viewpoints, and forge lasting relationships with peers from various backgrounds. This exchange of ideas and cultures will not only enrich my educational experience but also equip me to be a more effective advocate for inclusivity and social justice in my community. Ultimately, pursuing higher education is my way of honoring my heritage while carving out my own path. I want to be a role model for younger Asian Americans, demonstrating that our identities can be a source of strength rather than a limitation.
