Bold Self-Care Scholarship
Over the past year, my definition of self-care has changed exponentially. Last year the task that I stated was practicing self-care was showering and eating. However, this year I would say that the activities that I do to implement self-care are based on deliberately taking time for myself to do something that I enjoy. I thought that self-care was a waste of time but I was forced through some unforeseen health issues to realize that self-care is necessary for me to be the best version of myself. I learned to say no to society's expectations of always being busy and instead set boundaries that will facilitate my well-being. In the process of setting boundaries, I have figured out various activities that I have implemented into everyday life that gives me joy. Some of these activities are more physical such as walking on trails and exploring. Other activities that I enjoy are more stationary such as reading novels, completing sticker-by-numbers, and listening to true crime podcasts. Ultimately, without self-care, I would not be able to learn and enjoy life to the fullest.
