I decided to pursue a career in nursing because I have always wanted to serve people. My first thought was to join the military but I am not eligible to join at this time. My next thought was nursing. I have always been very fascinated with anything medical. I took every medical class my high school had to offer. I ended up taking the CNA course my senior year and loved working with Patients. To continue pursuing this idea of being a health care worker, I started a job at a drug research facility (Spaulding Clinical) where I can learn new things almost every day. I started out by just serving meals and doing vital signs as a Clinical Intern. I have now worked my way up to an Advanced Research Technician and placing ECG's and soon to be drawing blood. After I worked this job, I knew that my next step in life was to go to school for nursing. As a nursing student I am still getting involved with clubs and sports. I am currently on my colleges Track and Field team along with ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corp). Through both of these, I am learning leadership that I hope to use in my future career. Overall, I picked nursing because I love the skills that I will get to learn but also have the desire to help the patients in need. My aunt is a nurse and she told me everything that she does on the job from the not so fun stuff to the rewarding times. Although nursing is fast paced and not always the most enjoyable, watching patients go home is my aunt's favorite part. I am excited to one day share the same experience as her. My aunt is my inspiration every day. She has been working as a nurse for over 25 years. A couple years ago she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She just recently got it removed and recovered for a couple months. She is now back at work helping patients again like nothing happened. She is super strong and will put everything she has into being a nurse. I strive to be the kind of nurse she is! I plan on working as hard as she did and serving the patients that need it. We all will eventually be in a situation where need help and I want to be the one that make sure each patient under my watch gets the best treatment possible.
