Women in Healthcare Scholarship
Greetings. My name is Katrina Hudson, and I attend Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN. My major is Healthcare Administration and Planning with a minor in Business. This is my second time attending this university. I was first there in the fall of 1998 as a nursing major and I left in the spring of 2004. I left because I became pregnant, and I wanted to concentrate on being a mother.
I am a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Nashville District, Tennessee Jurisdiction, Prince Hall Affiliated. My chapter's name is Electa No. 1. We do several fundraisers each year to fund our community service efforts. Some examples of the community service I have participated in are donated laundry items to a local high school, donated school uniforms to a local elementary school, donated backpacks and school supplies to children in the projects, served dinner at the Nashville Rescue Mission at the women and children's campus as well as donated Halloween costumes and candy to the children. , partnered with our brother lodge, Kirajathjearim No. 104, donated nonperishable items to fill boxes of food to families in need for Thanksgiving, sorted food at the Second Harvest Food Bank, donated gift cards to a local orphanage, and donated feminine products to the Nashville Resue Mission the women and children's shelter.
After I graduate, I have a few jobs in mind I will be applying for too. One is applying to university and working in the public health or health administration department. The other is working for the state of Tennessee in their TennCare department. Lastly, apply to the Veterans of Affairs to work in their healthcare department. I have experience in management in healthcare as well as billing healthcare claims.
I will continue making an impact by helping those who do not understand their medical bill. I will explain their bill and help them find ways for corrections if needed or to receive discount cards to help their bill become more affordable. For example, I recently assisted a friend with their diabetic medication become more affordable. They paid twenty-five dollars in December of 2025. Their January cost was five hundred dollars. After doing some research, their insurance now requires a prior authorization. I sent them the form to send to their physician. I also found out the manufacturer had a discount card, and they could pay as less as twenty-five dollars. I sent them all this information I had found. Once their physician filled out the prior authorization form, their health insurance paid more, and they were paying twenty-five dollars again.
Shanique Gravely Scholarship
At the age of eighteen, I attended Tennessee State University to pursue a degree in nursing. I found out at the age of twenty-four that I was pregnant with my first and only child. I dropped out of college to take on the role of a mother. Two years ago, I decided to go back to college at Tennessee State University to finish obtaining my degree. However, instead of nursing I am pursing a bachelor's degree in healthcare administration and planning with a minor in business. My personal experiences have taught me to never to give up on your dreams. Although, I consider myself a late bloomer in obtaining a degree, I have the drive and commitment to complete it. I am also showing my son that no matter your age you can always obtain your goals and aspirations. I chose this degree because I am in the healthcare administration field. I have experience in the accounts receivable, payment posting, and supervisor positions.
I am in an organization that works in the community so going back to college did not interfere. It gives me an opportunity to tell my story and to share my dedication. I have always been told you never know who is looking at you, and I found this to be true. In my organization we give back to local elementary schools by having backpack and school supply drives, at a local middle school by donating school uniform clothing, at a local high school by donating laundry items, and going to the Nashville Rescue Mission to serve breakfast or lunch. We also host a fundraising brunch which allows us to other things in the community. I am also a part of the missionary ministry at my church. We have clothing drives during the spring and fall, and we also collect nonperishable items to give out from our food pantry. We also assist with serving the food at funeral Passovers.
I have recently been informed by my financial aid advisor that I am no longer eligible for federal aid. Therefore, I am responsible to pay out of pocket for tuition, books, and other expenses. Being a recipient of this scholarship will allow me to continue my education and obtain my degree. I have worked really hard to maintain good grades and I will be accepting an invitation to the honor society at my university. If I am a chosen recipient, I will truly be honored and grateful.

This scholarship is needed because I have been informed by my financial aid advisor that I no longer qualify for federal grants or federal student loans. My income does not allow me the affordability to pay out of pocket for my education. Therefore, I must apply for scholarships to assist me in paying for college. I am now in my third year, and I do not want to drop out because of financial needs.

I chose to attend a HBCU because I am from a small white town in Tennessee. I wanted to be around more people who look like me. I wanted to experience being around more black people and the culture. This was the best decision I made for myself. I attend Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN. My major is Healthcare Administration and Planning with a minor in Business. As a young child, I had to take pictures of bruises my mother had on her arms and chest. My parents were going through a divorce at that time. Although I did not understand at the time, I did not ever see my father put his hands on my mother. My mother did the correct thing leaving my dad. Not only for herself but also for my brother and me. I have personally been impacted by domestic violence from a past relationship. My boyfriend at the time, we met and worked together at hotel in downtown Nashville, TN. There were a few signs and red flags when we moved in but at the time I was not sure. We got into an argument over my best friend. She was very protecting over me. He called her a name, and I made it known it was not appreciated it, he pulled over and started choking me. I was able to get away and called the police. We went to court, and I found out he had been to jail in Detroit, MI on drug charges. I was very lucky that I stopped it right then because he is now in prison on attempted murder charges. The cycle stopped with me. He tried to kill his wife and stabbed her sister. I thank God daily because that could have been myself and my best friend. I have a son, and I have taught him that you do not put your hands on a female. I had an amazing support system. My family and friends were there for me every step of the way. After graduation, I plan to obtain a job in public health. I am always trying to help someone in some capacity. Whether it is listening to a problem and giving my best opinion to help their situation or giving someone clothes or food. I am a people person, so it comes natural for me to be around all walks of life. I would advocate for others by speaking to them about the importance of taking care of themselves first by leaving the abusive relationships. I would share group home information for them to go too. I would ask them to go to help groups to work through their traumas so they can be on the path to healthy life mentally and physically. Lastly, I would advise them to surround themselves with a great support system.

When people have a surgery, they do not understand the multiple bills they may receive for the same surgery. Educating them on this will help so many people understand the statements they will receive. I helped my mother with obtaining traditional Medicare as her primary insurance and AARP as her secondary insurance. Explaining to her the different levels of traditional Medicare, the deductible, coinsurance, and copay really helped her understand what to look for then she received the explanation of payment statement.

Charity is important to me because we grew up poor. I wore plenty of clothes that were handed down to me or clothes my mother would have sewn. As an adult I donate money and clothing to local charities. I am a member of The Order of The Eastern Star, Nashville District, Tennessee Jurisdiction, and Prince Hall Affiliated, and we are always giving back to our community. I have served lunch and dinner at the Nashville Rescue Mission. I have helped sort food at Second Harvest Food Bank. In my church I am a member of the missionary society. We have help clothing drives and started a food pantry. After graduation, I will continue working and serving my community alongside my organizations.

We have clothing drives during the spring and fall and we also collect nonperishable items to give out from our food pantry.
Minecraft Forever Fan Scholarship
In the game I get to craft items and explore the open world. Minecraft allows you to do just about anything. In the main menu you have the ability to choose from several customizations for your character. There are different textured packs to purchase to elevate your gaming experience. You can play in different modes ranging from creative, survival, and manmade portals. There are different content creators that enjoy playing the game and the different modes such as the YouTuber, Dream. The content creators range from speed runners, tournament players, and trolling players. One of the reasons I enjoy playing the game is it is multiplayer. I can play with them in a world you created or one they created. If you have a PS4, you can grind all the challenges to get the platinum achievement. This is difficult to do. Minecraft has some of the best music, using the violin and piano. There are different mods in Minecraft that are scary and fun. The graphics in the scary mod are amazing. Playing Minecraft allows you to be creative. It is very easy to learn and is compatible with most game systems. There is a new adventure with new saves.
Milan Alexander Memorial Scholarship
My son is now eighteen and is attending the University of Kentucky as a Mechanical Engineering major. I am a single parent, and I could not be prouder. I can focus more on finishing college and obtaining my bachelor's degree.
I am a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Nashville District, Tennessee Jurisdiction, Prince Hall Affiliated. My chapter name is Electa No. 1. We do several fundraisers each year to fund our community service efforts. Some examples of the community service I have participated in are donated laundry items to a local high school, donated school uniforms to a local elementary school, donated backpacks and school supplies to children in the projects, served dinner at the Nashville Rescue Mission at the women and children's campus as well as donated Halloween costumes and candy to the children, partnered with our brother lodge, Kirajathjearim No. 104, donated nonperishable items to fill boxes of food to families in need for Thanksgiving, sorted food at the Second Harvest Food Bank, donated gift cards to a local orphanage, and donated feminine products to the Nashville Resue Mission the women and children's shelter.
I have done so much more to give back to the community. If I am selected as a winner, I will truly be grateful and honored.
