I have been a radiation therapist for over 7 years, and even though I love working with my patients, I want to expand my knowledge and pursue education in dosimetry to fully understand the process of developing optimal plans to accurately treat patients. My experience working as a radiation therapist, attention to detail, and accuracy makes me a qualified candidate for the dosimetry program. With 7 years of therapy background, I have seen unique patient setups and devices used for simulations and treatments. My proficiency with linear accelerators has given me the knowledge of its imaging capabilities and features to utilize during treatment. I understand the importance of patient safety and the need to verify gantry clearance, which is crucial when creating treatment plans so potential issues can be prevented. I strive to improve the quality of care provided to our patients and have implemented process improvements in our department. Dosimetry fascinates me because it’s ultimately a part of what I do every day; I would be learning what it takes to design and generate safe and accurate treatment plans. I feel this dosimetry program is a great opportunity for me to expand my knowledge and still be involved in the field of work that I love.
