Since the start of freshman year I have known that I would hear the question, ”What do you want to be in the future?”, multiple times throughout the 4 years that make up high school. I used to avoid the seemingly simple question because I told myself that I did not have to worry about my future just yet and that I would eventually find out my passions along the way. In some aspects my way of thinking was not completely incorrect, in my years of high school I found myself always circling back to drawing or anything related to art. This passion began to feel even closer to me as I finished up my Junior year and as I am in the process of completing my senior year.
My first year of AVID started in 6th grade, at first I remember questioning if the resources provided during this class would benefit me as much as others used to say so often. I would go on to think like this for the first few years that I was involved in AVID. About 4 years of rethinking if continuing to be in the class would be worth it in the end or if it was just taking up a space in my schedule. Then I started to be more observant of the skills taught to us and repeated on a daily basis. For example, something as simple as a planner helped me stay more organized and I began to appreciate AVID more for all that it has taught me.
Not only did I grow my passion for art but I also started to appreciate the idea that creativity was a main aspect of success in life and it could encourage you to reach goals. Many people may not think about it in that way but when you really think about it, not many things could be done without the skill of creativity. I improved these skills as I sat down in my 1st year of AVID and I continue to improve them as I am currently in my 7th year of AVID. Creativity also helped me decide what exactly I wanted to do with my passions. In the end I decided that my main goal in the next 5 years is to major in Architecture. With this goal in mind I not only hope for it to have a positive impact in my life. I also wish to positively impact others lives by encouraging them to use their creativity to follow their passions. Although this may seem unrealistic to others, I can’t help but want to see others succeed because I know how hard it may be when no one cheers you on for the ideas you may have.
