My name is Kathleen Carroll, I am an only child who will be continuing my education at Mount Saint Joseph University. Along with growing my education, I will also be playing softball at the Mount. As an only child, I have been held to very high expectations, as I was always the only option for my parents. Being an only child has taught me extreme responsibility and empathy for the people around me. From a young age, I have been taught to always treat people with kindness because you never know what someone else is going through. When I was little, I never quite understood that, as from what my parents showed me, the world was perfect. As I have gotten older, I now know that my parents shielded me from many of the bad things that were going on around the world. Being raised the way I was, I have always strived to be the absolute best version of myself, mentally and physically. Growing up with surrounded by medical professionals I always knew that I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field. I have watched my grandparents be firefighters/medics/paramedics all of my life, they would always come home and share their stories and I always heard all the people they were able to help, they always made sure to tell me the good things about the job, but never the bad. Looking back on this, I believe it is because the good always outweighed the bad and they truly loved their job. Along with my grandparents, my mom has worked as a Medical Assistant all of her life, she started from being at the bottom and she has worked her way up as she has worked for the same company almost all of her life. Like I said, she started as just an MA and then began to look into the business side of medicine. This is when she fell in love and has worked to way to becoming a clinical supervisor and is on her way to becoming the regional manager. My dad does not have a career in medicine, but he is the supervisor of a well-renowned construction company, he builds hospitals for a living. Just like my mom he started on the bottom and worked his way to the top. Being raised with people who are so hard-working and do their best to help other people has made me the hardworking I am today. Through my future career in rehabilitation Physical Therapy, I hope to make a positive impact on people's lives when they are at their absolute worst. Being a smiling face is sometimes the best medicine for someone when they are recovering from an injury or surgery. Being kind to people and listening to not just how they are feeling physically but also mentally will be a main goal of mine. As well as someone being my patient, I also hope to grow trusting relationships with people and do my best to always make sure they are comfortable. I will always work my absolute hardest and one day I hope to be as successful as my parents and grandparents.
