Bio

I am from a low-income household and a first-generation student, my goal is to travel around the world. I am very interested in financial topics that I have learned through YouTube which influenced my decision to major in accounting. I have helped low-income to middle-income families file their taxes through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. I would also like to mention my rigorous high school coursework through the International Baccalaureate Program that I am currently attending at my high school with my leadership skills shown through volunteering in Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden.

My favorite scientist is Sharon Barak who, with her team, created eco-friendly plastic that can dissolve in water in a few minutes and is safe to drink from. Since ocean pollution and climate change have been on many people's radar, the major problem is plastic which doesn't dissolve in the oceans for many days. So this eco-friendly, 'fake' plastic will definitely be a step towards fighting climate change. In addition, there are many other scientists like Sharon who are trying to create bio-degradable plastic so there is some hope for the future for our planet.

I stay true to myself in my daily life is through reading Asian novels online as I immerse myself in the fantastical and adventurous life. Which acts as my escape and keeps me grounded from all the stress of of school work. This hobby I do helps keeps me sane and to stay true to my values that I try to uphold in my life throughout my school life. I also talk to my very close friends that attend another school online, so that I can keep sane and continue to keep in touch with them. Just from talking with my close friends allows me to be more open to them. In addition, playing with my dog and interacting with my family mostly help me stay true to myself in my daily life as they support me throughout my life. Furthermore, the food I eat also help my throughout my life, knowing that I am so privileged in living in a country with many resources and opportunities for financially poor families.

My favorite book is "I Don't Want to Be a Magpie Bridge" because of its fantastical setting, making it such a fun read and helps relive my childhood dreams of magic. This is a Korean book that is translated into English, so the names of the characters are not set in stone as it is not officially translated. One thing I like about this book is the character development in the story. We see the main character as a bright and cute girl who is spoiled by her parents. But then she suddenly remembers her past life of being a teenager who had work a lot to take care of her three siblings after her parents died. She then turns into a gloomy adult-like child and starts to set realistic goals for becoming an official for the kingdom. At this part, I felt that this was similar to when our childhood dies and reality starts setting in where you realize that you need a job to survive in our society. Another character development that stood out to me is how the main character had this inferiority complex at first, where she thought low of herself and even thought that she would never get a boyfriend. Even though she was very popular at school and is surrounded by the most influential people in the noble school, but her best friend then brainwashed the main character to fix her inferiority complex and to make her more confident. Throughout the story, there were many funny interactions between all the characters which made me snicker and laugh while reading this book. A good example is a part where the main character's best friend brainwashed her to make her feel confident, I don't know why but I found that hilarious.
