I never thought that one day I would be so passionate about going back to school and becoming a teacher. I truly want to be that change in students lives. Growing up I never really thought I had a teacher that helped me and wanted me to succeed. I became unmotivated to learn and always felt like giving up. freshman year I didn't pass algebra due to how unmotivated and anxious I was. As time went by I had one teacher that reached out to me and really sat me down and told me what could happen if I failed a second time. She told me how much potential she saw in me which I never saw in myself. She told me how the whole year she had watched me try and make an effort but I wasn't pushing myself hard enough. Right now I am currently a senior passing math with an A. Once again she is my math teacher but in a higher math class. :)
Having a teacher that cares about you is all a student needs to be successful even if it's just one that truly believes in you. Most people don't realize how important teachers are and how underpaid they are. I want to be that teacher that my students can come to for everything and anything. I want to give my all to my future students and make sure they have everything they need to be successful. Being a teacher would me the absolute world to me, especially being a black girl with little to no representation in my high school. The reason I'm so passionate about becoming a teacher is because I want to be that teacher I never had growing up. I want to create a safe environment for my students and for other little black girls to look at me and realize they can do anything if they push themselves.
