My father figure is my dad. My parents both got their bachelor's degrees in political science and both went on to get their law degrees. Before my dad went to law school, my parents had my brothers. My mom put them before her career in law even though she loved it and enjoyed studying. She took care of my brothers while my dad worked and went to law school. Although they didn't have much saved, they trusted that once they were done with school, everything would work itself out once they had a steady stream of income. They showed me that hard work pays off and doesn't go unnoticed.
They adopted me in China at 10 months old and brought me to the United States where I had 2 older brothers waiting for me. My parents treated me just like my brothers and didn't treat me any differently. My dad ended up working for a company that had just started and took a chance to help build up the company. As I grew up, he taught me about the value of a dollar and how to make it work for you. He let me start investing under his name when I was in middle school with the little cash I had saved. I became more interested as I got into high school and got a part-time job as a server at a retirement home.
I started investing the money I earned and it started to grow and grow right after 2020. I learned that the market has a lot that goes into the ups and downs of the market. My dad was always there when he got back from work and was open to me asking him questions. My dad worked as a lawyer, but he also worked in finance. Although he was always swamped and traveling for work, he would try his best to schedule my school activities. Whether it was tennis matches, lacrosse games, air rifle matches, or band concerts, he would make sure I knew he was proud of me. I didn't start appreciating it until high school, but I'm extremely grateful for the support system of my parents, specifically my dad, who never doubted me and helped me become the person that I am today.
I graduated high school in 2024 and I decided to apply to 4-year colleges as a finance/business major. I know that he will always be happy to see me grow and spend time with him. I attended Georgia Tech in the Fall 2024 semester as a Finance major but decided to transfer to Penn State Schreyer Honors College, University Park. I am eager to continue my education in finance and appreciate any and every opportunity that may come my way. Even with a great career, it's not complete without a supportive family to appreciate it with me.
